Apart from ignoring your own budget (what would Martin say?); note this is not Full HD.0 -
I would recommend looking for one with a HD screen as it is the biggest part you interact with.0

Totally agree. If you're now willing to spend £400 you should really get something with a full HD screen. Don't just look at Acers because you've had them before, there are better machines available imho.0

after doing some research myself I have found this.

I know it is the same price as the one suggested from curry's in a previous post, and for the price probably does not have the same spec as the HP one, but it's a brand I know and for what i want it for the spec suits my needs.
Look at what i picked up, for less; http://mcscom.co.uk/product/dell-inspiron-17-7746-i7-5500u-2-40ghz-8gb-500gb-gt-845m-17-3-fhd-touch-w10h-1yrs-rtb-wty-mln240/
Let's list some of the spec;
Intel Core i7-5500U
17.3" Full HD Touchscreen with Corning Gorilla® NBT Glass
Backlit keyboard with numeric keypad
Dedicated graphics card 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT845M
For £400, the ACER is bog standard.0 -

No SSD?

very-pc should be able to build you a pc with the given specification for a good price with customization.0

Also, a refurbished machine. Not saying there's anything wrong with that btw.
Still using my previous 'refurb'....from 2009. That still had the original plastic stuck to it. The DELL was in new condition with a twelve month warranty....same as the £400 ACER.
SSD to be fitted when I can pry the girlfriend's fingers off it.0 -
I have increased my budget in the hope that if I spend a bit more it will last me 9 years like my current one has.
I hadn't really noticed if the screens were HD, because i wont be gaming or watching movies on it I didn't consider it to be that important perhaps I'm wrong.
And I suppose buying another acer is like buying the same make of car everytime, you know what you are getting and I'm sure there are better makes out there.
And the only reason I have not gone for the HP one suggested in an earlier post is that I have never had one before, but having looked at it closer I suppose I would be better going for that due to it's reduction and higher spec.SPC 0370 -
I bought this about 3 weeks ago in the sales....

Was about £269 in the sales, now £30 more expensive.
After a few hiccups, seems to be working OK.0
