Cleared out some more bits and bobs from the freezer today. All stuff I'd bought in the run up to Xmas and had to freeze as I hadn't got round to it.
Mexican meatballs & veg in sweet chilli sauce with basmati rice.
Weighed it ... as you do ... total dish was ~400 grams, half of that was the rice.0 -
Still decluttering a bottle of the real baileys from christmas which if I remember rightly was only a tenner so worth it for the real mccoy. Might well try the homemade one when I run out but to be honest I need to knock the habit on the head as there are a lot of calories in a baileys particularly one poured by me
Always shocks me if I ever have a Baileys when out and about and find out what a real measure should be :eek:
Reheating some pizza from the freezer tonight - tuna and anchovy my favourite comboAt some point I really need to make some flat breads with the very OOD yoghurt in the fridge but it wont be today.
Got some turkey out of the freezer too for a mini roast tomorrow :T
Just out of interest PN why did you weigh it?0 -
Just out of interest PN why did you weigh it?
Because .. I do.
There are many reasons.
I write down what I make/eat and take notes, so I don't forget things I made/liked. It's surprising how easy it is to forget a great meal!
It's "important" to know how much meals weigh as I compare the weight of what I make to the packets available. I know if I pick up a ready meal in a shop then 350-400 grams is "about right" for a serves one.... it's easy to let portion control slip. If I'd weighed it and it'd weighed 600 grams, then I'd have made a snap decision to either eat the lot regardless, or eat only half now and box up the other half for later. If I'd split it I might've found something else to just make the weight up to that extra 100g or not... e.g. I might've tossed some frozen peas into the microwave and added those.
I can afford to eat the lot ... I'm sure I've lost a bit of weight lately... it's slipping off very slowly, so I'd like it to continue doing it without my intervention.... then I can eat pies when I like without guilt at some random future point when I fancy one.0 -

I couldn't be that disciplined in a million years - that said I'm pretty good at judging what a reasonable portion for me looks like and don't tend to eat stuff up just because it's on my plate - the joys of having a pooch if you've dished a bit too much:D
I thought I'd taken chicken thighs out of the freezer but it's actaully pork ribs and they are clearly marked as well (note to self wear specs) Will see if I cook them today and if not will have tomorrow. If I eat these today I'll probably just use up the remains of the lamb I froze a couple of Sundays ago tomorrow.
I've had loads of cuppas so far today but after a bigger than usual meal last night I'm only just beginning to be hungry so might make some scrambled egg or heat up some soup. It's a miserable day here the rain hasn't stopped and it is pretty chilly so I fancy something hot.0 -
I couldn't be that disciplined
Well, I've a pile of little squares of paper in a holder on the windowsill and the pen, so they were out while I made notes on what I cooked.
For "next time" notes I've noted that there was too much rice really and too few meatballs ... so next time I'll up it
The digi scales are just sitting there so it takes just 5 seconds to plonk them on and off again, then scribble at the bottom of my notes.0 -

I've been thinking about making shortbread too of late, as it's one thing that I do enjoy, but expensive, no cheapie stuff in the shops. Got a couple of triangles that my neighbour made last week....it was to die for. Am still waiting for the recipe.
I've gone off Jaffa cakes, don't like the originals any more, they've skimped too much on the filling, but did like the Lidl ones. Last packet had two, the packet lay forever and I ended up turfing out, so won't bother again, unless I have a total craving.
I rarely have a sweet tooth, but all this talk of puddings has given me a craving, have no apples in the house to make a crumble, and can't be bothered going out to get some. I had some currants and dried cranberries, so have made a microwave clootie dumpling with them, and going to make proper custard. I am stopping reading this thread.....it's dangerous!0 -

Sounds as though you are feeling better so I'd just go with your appetite to help the recoveryClootie dumpling and custard what time should I arrive LOL?

I'd imagine your neighbour's recipe will be pretty similiar to the one I posted the key is getting the ratio of ingredients right.

Sorry Caronc, missed your recipe, but have spotted it now....taken a note of it for in the future.
Am certainly feeling a lot better today. The clootie dumpling and custard was delicious...the cranberries really were a great substitute for sultanas, actually better I think. There's still plenty left, so you'd better get a move on, as I'll be giving some to my neighbour. What time will I pick you up at the airport?
Can I also request that in future the talk is about meat, poultry and fish, as I certainly won't have cravings for any of them.....please, for the sake of my waistline?0
