This needs to be a banned term on a CFO thread. Singles don't BBQ as it's so long-winded and messy and ... everything.... just to cook 1-2 burgers and/or 1-2 sausages.

I have got "all the gear" to give my little BBQ41 a go if I wish. Tiny frying pan on a grill over some tealights. Got everything I need ... including burgers.... so all I'd need would be for it to be wind free and me to feel like it.

I have absolutely NO idea what's for tea.... maybe a cheeseburger as I've got everything for that. In fact, having typed that, I think that's a genius idea....so it'll probably happen :)

EDIT: .... and now I think of it, I might pop out and grab a bag of frozen chips to go with that....and hash browns while I am in the right shop/remember.

Anne_Marie, how hot ! Nope couldn't deal with that, just no.

Breakfast - crispy rice, chia seeds and cashew milk.
Lunch - fruit, yes another can't be bothered day.
Dinner - small left over portion of sweet and sour vegetables, beetroot portion, lentil rice, potatoes and seaweed.
Snacks - cucumber, tomatoes, fruit and rice cake with almond butter.
Drinks - water, coffee and tea. May have a cheeky vodka and lemonade later.

Bit of a mish-mash for dinner I know. All things needing to be eaten.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Well, Plan A was put in its place!

I went to l1dl mainly for four things: chips, hash browns, milk, eggs.

They didn't have any of those! Empty freezers, empty milk shelves.... eggs weren't long-dated enough to bother with today.

So I had to randomly walk round and see what I fancied. I came away with some chicken thighs in sauce, 2 little gem lettuces (first lettuce purchase for about 10+ years), a pack of 6 salad tomatoes, some marg/spread, packet of digestives and a pack of scones - although I needed the milk for what I intended to do with the digestives/scones....

I had a cheeseburger in a bread roll with 2 lettuce leaves shoved unceremoniously at the bottom.

OMG those burgers are fabulous....they really are. The box had four in it though and I've only one left.

Today I have had scarambled eggs on toast and then a slice of toast/honey for breakfast.
Mid morning I had a banana.
Lunch was a lightly dusted haddock fillet with some new potatoes, peas and sweetcorn (got rid of the sweetcorn :)). Followed by a rhubarb crumble with cream and ice cream (because I couldn't make a choice).
Afternoon snack was some blueberries and raspberries.
Tea has been a tuna mayo sandwich and a bar of chocolate.

I seem to have swapped lunch and dinner around at the moment. This has been going on for a few days now. I need to swap them back though or it will become a habit that is hard to break and I don't want to start this. In the winter I love to have a nice warming meal in the evening when it's nice and cosy indoors.

Is that usual for your L1dl on a Friday evening? It sounds like the supermarkets around here on the Friday before a bank holiday weekend.

Glad you enjoyed the burger. Where did you get them from? I'm always on the lookout for a recommendation for things like burgers.

Dunno, I normally avoid Friday evening in case there's a rush.

45d4. They are really nice and moist ....and tasty.
    £1.75/4 at the moment. https://groceries.asda.com/product/burgers-grills/asda-4-chilli-lime-quarter-pound-ers/910002319658

I've not tried many, for comparison, but these were better than whatever I got at 4ldi/l1dl the other month.

    These are keepers :)
  • I've been doing some tootling around the Net and come across a couple of new-to-me cookbooks over the last couple of days. Looking for ideas.

Ideas useful to Doom & Gloom too possibly?

Found a YouTube list by someone called Jaclyn Wood - which is short videos of "Plant based on a budget". Watched a bit and have now subscribed to her list. Looks like various ideas usable to me - and easy:)

Also found a couple of useful cookbooks. So I've bought the Healing Foods Cookbook by Jane Sen. She's done meals there for the Bristol Cancer Centre. They're vegan and look interesting and useful to me. The downside is the usual "Yep....the quantities are for 4 people again - as cookbooks of this era still usually are:(" - but I've figured that "If it's healthy enough for them - then it's healthy enough for me too" and the recipes do look easy and she's done another along the same lines. Duly ordered from Amazon and awaited at present.

Another one - from Rose Elliott this time. One called "Vegetarian Express" and it's actually got a noticeable number of recipes in for 1 or 2 people:) and they also look easy. It's vegetarian this time - so for when I've lost the excess weight/minor ailments...

Had the best sleep in such a long time and didn't get up until 05:45....pure bliss. It's almost 7 am and temp is 29C already in the shade. A bad sign for what's to come. Was speaking to a Cypriot friend yesterday, and he was talking about 50C this weekend. Flipping heck, I am going to die! Never seen it so hot as early in the year as this. Hopefully it's just a little blip, and normal service will be resumed soon. Sorry to be going on about the temp, must sound like an old record here. :o

Tea was a cheese omelette with some tomato and onion chucked in, and 6 potato wedges, which have been languishing in the freezer for months.

Will be making a fruit salad and a separate veg salad (with no leafy stuff in) shortly. Also going to grate a load of cheese, and put most in the freezer, so food processor will be getting hauled out. Already done hard boiled eggs. Should be a no cook day completely.

Laughed (yet again) at PN with the (ssshhhh) bbq word for singles. Totally agree, I couldn't be bothered with all that faff for food for one. I never use mine, ever. Others do when they come over, but that's up to them.
My wood burning oven is rarely used now, which is such a shame, as the food tastes amazing. However, am not going to faff about building a fire, and getting it burning for a couple of hours before food is put in, just for me. Makes such a great pizza too. :(

MITSTM - Another swear word or rather words.....cookery book! I have a passion for them. Stop tempting me woman! :rotfl: I particularly like Rose Elliot. Borrowed a book from the library of hers such a long time ago, but could never find it to buy, which was superb. I have others of hers, but never did find the original one, and can't remember the name now.
I have many recipe books downloaded, but it's not the same as a physical copy, love leafing through them. Anyway, will be looking at your suggestions later on.
  • 50C !!!!!!!!

Think we need a smilie of a figure collapsing in a puddle on the floor to cover that one:eek:.

I discovered - during a Turkish holiday - that my "Just got to get in that swimming pool and collapse with a cold drink" temperature is about 34/35C and definitely can't walk that far in it (though my definition of hot climate dressing is loose maxis and a head covering).

Visions of you lying there on tiled floor indoors with fans or air conditioning running full tilt to cope.

Hope it cools down soon for you. It's a shame you can't send some of that excess heat our way and we could get our summer back and you could cool down a bit.
