I hated Black Forest Gateau, almost as much as I hated Jam Sponge (the one with 2 layers you eat cold)!

I liked a good old (moist) sponge (no jam) and custard though.
I hated that cold jam sponge thing as well. I liked the hot moist sponge as well, and enjoyed it with jam. My mum used to make that quite a lot, she also used to do a sweet steamed suet pudding, I think it was spotted !!!!, and jam roly poly made with suet, I used to love them.

Oi, you lot are talking food !!!!!!. Stop it :D

Now I want beans, steamed suet puds etc and no salads

The thread has changed my dinner now, it will have beans instead of virtuous salad,a nd any more of this food memory chat may result in me nuking the LO Christmas pud :o

Lidl near waste of time, still no frozen chips, but did have the other spud stuff, like hash browns and waffle things, both of which I do not eat, unless in hotel or similar environment where someone else does the faffing about

Came away with YS ham & tom tartlet thingies, which will now go well with beans for dinner

Lunch was same old cheese salad sarnie

Still not picked the gosseberries, and may not do so because it has now gone dull & cold again. If I did pick them I think a crumble would suit the weather more than a summer pudding

I had a crumble that I liberated from the freezer at lunchtime today because it is dull and cold here as well :(

    hash browns.

Yes, they're high on my list to get another bag - but I will get the next bag from L1dl. They're really useful and versatile. I don't just "grab the same thing I got last time" unless I've actively decided one brand/shop is better than another .... I have to try 2-3 shops' variations and then see if any are better/not.

I keep forgetting to grab a bag when I'm in there though ...

Thank you, just couldn't think. Don't always have them here, but I am going to look when I do my next food shop.
Honestly it's so flipping hot now, that my brain is totally addled..my thermometer is showing 42C just now...it's horrible. So just expect me to spout out even more stupid rubbish than I normally do, for the foreseeable future. :o

Ended up having the last of the fruit salad with yoghurt and a teaspoon of mandarin curd mixed in....not the tastier breakfast that you had. Not a clue what to have for tea, will involve little or no cooking, that's for sure.

I have decided that when the family come over, I'm going to go against the habits of a lifetime, and buy ready made food from the deli counters, rather than cook all the time.

Farway - I do rather like the sound of food !!!!!!. :D

SunnyGirl - oh dear, very nasty. Hope that you feel better asap.

Sun has popped out. Gooseberries picked & cooked, now just await crumble topping and oven

I will have it with a packet of instant custard which is only 18 months past it's BBE date

Quite looking forward to dinner now. The crumble & tartlet thingy can go in oven at same time & gas mark. Very MSE as well

Good morning everyone. I've had a tooth abscess culminating in the tooth being removed yesterday. All very painful and not nice but it'll hopefully improve now.

Going to catch up and read what I've missed now.
Oh how horrible - hope you feel better soon x
  • Dinner cooking now for tonight - roast veggies (cauliflower/sweet potato/red onion/peppers/garlic) and will be eaten with stir-fried marinated tofu (with tomatoes and beansprouts). First try-out of new wok - and I shall be just trying it out with a mere hint of spray oil (rather than quite a dollop of oil as previously).

Just had a bit of smoothie while waiting.

Admitted - I've not had any booze for about a fortnight now - and that's obviously part of it - but I had a compliment today that I've lost a bit of weight:D. I thought it might be my imagination that a recently-bought teeshirt that I think is size 14 (it has a size 10 label on it - so I'm guessing that's its accurate size....) has gone from feeling a bit tight to feeling "correct fit". Not going to raise my hopes too much - as I see there are some manufacturers that are even putting size 8 labels on "the size I should be" clothes (and I know that's size 14:cool:) - but the measurements are the same as the measurements I used to have - so - it's a "oh really! hmmph!" to those manufacturers.

Also - think it's been just 2 (1 oz) squares of cheese I've hauled out of the freezer this week and...whoops...snacked on:o. Have discovered squares of cheese that small take no time at all to defrost enough to eat - rather wish I hadn't discovered that:o

Two more eggs and a couple of cans of fish to use up. Must have a go at making my own hummus tomorrow - I have no excuse - as it takes no time to make it from canned chickpeas.

    Good afternoon everyone,

All this talk of wintery fare is fair making me hungry, as for Black Forest Gateau Karcher I'll have your slice:D

Ann-Marie  42C I doubt I could cope with that

MTMS - I have key hole and letter box covers and they do help reduce the wind noises, worth also checking if you have any chimney caps needing replacing.

I've had a fairly busy day of doing the monthly finances, putting away an on-line shop and having my review at the GPs. Thank goodness I mentioned I had a bit of a sore ear as it turns out I have an infection building so no doubt it would have flared up over the weekend.

After tonight I'm not CFO for a few days as my elder son & his partner are coming home and my younger son is also popping back for the weekend. We are hoping to bbq tomorrow evening but suspect while we might manage to cook outside we'll be eating indoors;).

Food so far today has been the usual toast, juice & fruit for breakfast and a sarnie for lunch. Tonight I'm having pork chop with steamed cabbage, green beans and potatoes. I'll steam a load of spuds so I can make a batch of potato salad tomorrow.:D
