I wish it was that warm in my house without any heating on :(. I'm wrapped up in throw, I don't want to put the heating on at this time of the year, but if I don't warm up soon, I think I will have to give it quick blast.

You'd like it at mine then. Reading 24.5C right now.

Breakfast - crispy rice with cashew milk.
Lunch - fruit. Couldn't be bothered.
Dinner - sweet and sour vegetables, lentil rice and seaweed (second day in a row).
Drinks - coffee, tea, water and vodka lemonade.
Snacks - fruit and kale crisps.

I've been up since 5:30 and I am shattered.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Well of course as soon as I went s@d it and switched the heating on the rain & wind has died down.....
Still living in an old (though well-insulated) sandstone house it will take a wee while for the place to heat up so I've left the heating on low for the next wee while. I decided I really wasn't steady enough on my feet to handle making pasta so black pudding and bubble&squeak from the freezer are in the oven along with some mushrooms as I type:)

Sorry for all of you that are having cold temperatures. Really wish could send some of the heat here. It's been in the high 30's here and forecast for the weekend is 42C. Can't believe how hot it is already, and still got July and August to go through.
Have got to go out this morning to take a friend to pick up medical results, so leaving at 7 am to allow for commuter traffic and be at the lab when it opens at 8 am. Other than picking up some fruit and veg, it will be straight home, I hope.

On the food front yesterday, fruit salad and yoghurt for breakfast, avocado salad with a slice of tomato and olive bread for lunch, tomato, lentil and pepper soup with a swirl of cream and fruit salad for tea. There's a lot of salads going on just now!

Must be having a blonde moment, am sure I typed out a spiel about being ill on your own....must have forgotten to submit. Sun has addled my brain.

I've had three falls in the house over the years. None have resulted in broken bones, thank goodness, but all have resulted in a lot of pain and spilt blood! Tiled floors here are not forgiving on the body.
The worst was when I landed splat on my face and spat out some broken bits of tooth. Took me quite a while to pick myself up, as was very confused as to what had happened. Cheap flip flop had flipped under, and I went flying. Goodness did I feel sorry for myself. Was the most expensive footwear I have ever bought, due to the dentists bill. Couldn't believe it, as I'd never bought cheap ones before, and certainly never will again. Sturdy and expensive are definitely cheaper on the pocket in the long run!

Luckily, I wasn't so seriously injured or ill, in that I could move, and could call for help, but it made me more aware of how vulnerable you can be, living on your own. I do use a step stool on my own, just one of those little folding plastic things. Anything any higher, like changing curtains, which I never used to bat an eyelid at doing, I make sure that someone is around for me going up the stepladder.

My friends, across the road, have a key. If they don't see me around, I get a message asking if I'm okay. This is more likely in the winter, when it's horrible weather. They'd be over checking if they didn't get a reply. They feel a bit better now that I have the dog, as I have to take her walks every day, so much better chance of me being out and about than before.
In the better weather, everybody is out and about, so we all see each other. It's a very small community where I am, and we all look out for each other and help as much as we can, as most of us don't have family to rely on.
It's very much like it used to be in the UK years back, when neighbours looked out for each other and helped. The downside is that everybody knows what everyone else is doing! The upside is you can go and ask for help, and someone will always be at hand. The worst thing about that is, getting over the pride thing in not asking, or not wanting to bother people. Really think that this is a British thing.

Hope that today brings a bit more heat to those suffering with the cold.

Good morning everyone. I've had a tooth abscess culminating in the tooth being removed yesterday. All very painful and not nice but it'll hopefully improve now.

Going to catch up and read what I've missed now.

19.5C in the house when I woke up this morning. I can hear wind howling a bit. Just flipped the central heating on again then. Can't just be me - as, when I was out yesterday, I had several other incomers commenting on it being cold/feeling like winter again (I say that as local people here will describe it as being a nice day - just because it's calm and it's not raining LOL).

Really must get round to fitting keyhole covers on the outer doors - as I'm presuming that's why I sometimes hear wind howling noises that I never used to hear anywhere until I moved to this area (ie a combination of being in a windy area - and keyhole covers would do the trick)? I get that frequently now and still find it unnerving.

Do you know Pastures? - as you're in a windy area too.

I've had that in another (further west/windy) area where I lived before. Sometimes I used to run a strip of masking tape round the door .... and I even found if I crouched down I could see a whole ½" gap under the front door - I could watch people's legs go by!
I've also stuck a blob of blue tack on the inside of locks.

If the wind is in the right direction here it can swirl round and lift up/drop the letterbox flap, which can be a bit disconcerting at times. My house is protected by other buildings when the wind is in some directions, but then exposed when it's from other directions - and, looking at weather fronts as they move through, the wind swings round a LOT here from one direction to another. I think, inland, people are more likely to experience the wind from one direction only, mostly, as fronts move through - whereas here I'm always on the "edge of a swirl", so it passes and swings round as it passes.

It's still wet here, and cool. current temperature is 66F/19C. It feels colder when the weather's miserable; I'm sure if it were sunny/bright here then this same temperature would "feel hotter".

Breakfast is being eaten right now: toast, beans, scrambled eggs, splash of brown sauce :)

Sounds lovely :) I could do with that right now. I'm going to do some scrambled eggs on toast in a minute and then will probably have a slice of toast and jam/honey after that :)
I don't want to open a tin of beans and then have to use up the rest of them.
