EDIT; Pastures - I'm wondering what you sit on in your home - do tell....

I've a sofa, but it's the sort of sofa nobody'd find comfy :)
It's 2nd hand and was good quality ... but it's now reached the end of its useful life. It's on the list to replace next year .... and you can't come next year because then it'll be new and I won't want anybody spoiling it by using it to sit on :)
  • :rotfl:at that Pastures re the sofa:rotfl:

The larger of my two sofas is new since I came here and was far from cheap. Cue for a friend that came round for a cup of coffee shortly after it arrived going to plonk herself down on my new sofa and then promptly getting worried she might spill some coffee on it - and swopping to the years old cheapie cheapie sofa instead just in case.:rotfl:

I've discovered what my "It's a bit much - even for me" indoor temperature is today - its 25C (which is the hottest my house has been to my knowledge since moving here). Well - that's established that then - I don't want my indoor temperature up over 24C at most if I can help it:cool:

Dinner just consumed and stomach was feeling hollow with hunger on the one hand and not quite right on the other hand - so that and the temperature dictated it was canned salmon/cold boiled potatoes and some mayonnaise with salad and a glass of cows milk to follow (as it fills my stomach up more than the rice milk I often have after a main meal).

Not been feeling that well for some days now - but nowt I can put my finger on precisely - so being a little more cautious with what I eat now. But I'm guessing it was a combination of having had yet more work done on my house over last few weeks (which I always hate) and I guess that Guardian columnist has a point with his little video-ette I watched today in which he was commenting that we usually have one negative Major National Event to "process" a year - and we've had four just in the last month and that Election. So I'm guessing that, much as I like to keep up with the news (that Boy Scout motto of "Be prepared") - it may be best to cut out watching/listening to the news for a while (in case yet another Major National Event - or two or three or....comes up soon). Those poor people involved in them - but basically there's nothing those of us living some distance away can do to help other than give a financial gift to help if possible.

Beginning to think it could be "all at mine" for this meal then:rotfl:. I've got enough seating for 6 in the garden. Quick count of mugs comes to 18 - and wondering who would get the giant-size more "soup" size ones.

Sitting room - could seat 11 if taking into account floor cushions and dining table chairs (though it's not much floorspace at all vacant - by the time I've got large sofa/small sofa/folded-down dining table/2 floorcushions and sideboard in there). I can feel visitors mentally deducting a bit of furniture from the room when they see the size of my largest sofa:rotfl:

I'd have the large mug. My old mug before I dropped and broke it held a pint, man I miss it as it was perfect for coffee. As for food I always bring my own. Onigiri anyone? Also bring my own chair, there are few advantages of using a wheelchair when not at home but always having a seat ha to be one of them lol.
Had just enough space here for our corner sofa bed. Sits around 5/6 depending when in sofa form. If in bed form a few more if you sit in a circle.

28.5C right now in the flat. Not helped by cooking a curry not long ago, though all windows and doors that can be are open. Yes I am eating curry right now. I boiled the rest of those reduced potatoes (nearly 1kg) in the rice cooker so I'm diging into 200g of those with it and a half an avocado bought reduced.
Think I bought the 4gk bag of potatoes about a month ago. I want rice so bad but with the potatoes that wasn't an option :o. I'll be having curry and potatoes for dinner for the next two days, stares longingly at the rice bucket.
The amount of water I'm drinking is insane; 4x60cl so far and I've had coffee on top of that. Yet I'm still thirsty.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

Hi all. Feeling very miffed. Spent the day grappling with technology that was playing up and just got it all in some form of order then hastily ate a quick tea before going out to meet a friend. i texted to confirm and they then promptly texted to say had gone off to do something else:mad:

I sent a text explaining why I'd thought we were still going out and got a very nasty one back despite the fact that mine was (i thought!!) a very polite explanation. So sitting here alone as didn't want to go to cinema on my own with nothing nice left to eat and feeling very tearful - like its my fault:(

Sometimes I feel like crawling under a big rock..

I think lots of folks tummies get a bit unsettled during hot weather. Hope it settles soon.

Get those spuds either roasted or mashed and into the freezer to enjoy when you feel more like it. Life is too short to deprive yourself of rice if that's what you fancy:)

Och - have a virtual hug sounds as though your so-called friend have gone into "attack is the best form of defense" mode to absolve their shortcomings. As for something nice to eat- rake those cupboards and make yourself a treat or something comforting in a bowl. Find a film or TV to watch and console yourself that it was probably far too warm in the cinema;)

Go to the cinema anyway poppy... no one cares whether you are on your own and you don't have to share your popcorn or listen to your friend's opinion of the film.

I'm away for work at the moment, so I've just sat in the hotel restaurant on my own for the second night in a row eating food cooked by someone else. Lots of nice fish (am in scandinavia), but looking forward to getting home and my normal diet. On the plus side it's significantly cooler here, even without the aircon...

I'd also say go to the cinema anyway. I agree with caron's comment about "Attack as the best form of defence" - as I've certainly noticed recently those who know very well they are "in the wrong" will often tend to "go on the attack" - rather than going in for logical reasoning and/or apologising or anything. It does seem to be quite a human tendency. I have the feeling that the last few years has seen an increase in people on an individual level trying to "shut up" the person coming out with an inconvenient truth - and the "going on the attack" against this definitely seems to be more common than it was imo.

One of my social things here is to go to the cinema with a particular friend and anyone else that wants to come as well (ie we've been known at most to have 9 of us sitting there in a row watching a film together)

but, one of the "plus sides" of living here is I've learnt it's perfectly possible to go to see a film or even to a music event here on one's own and I've sometimes done so (ie if no-one fancies it and/or is available). There are always a noticeable number of people on their own. I don't know if it's something deemed unremarkable in some areas of the country but not others (as it's something I wasn't aware of in my home area). I would imagine it's a pretty countrywide thing though - for going on one's own to be deemed totally unremarkable and one can see others doing so.

EDIT; Quick check later - and...yep....the largest mug of all holds 1 pint. Hereafter to be known as "Doom and Gloom" s mug.

Poppystar that's really sucky of them to do. I agree about going to the cinema anyway, but only if it was something you really wanted to watch yourself. I know that I've watched films with friends that I'd not have deemed 'cinema worthy' but to spend time with a friend and talk about it after I did.
Coronc I would freeze them if I had the space. I gave up the space they would have taken to ice. Lots and lots of ice.
Suppose I could make potato salad for lunches then I could have rice with my curry next two times for dinner. Hrm one portion of rice, at least, would be left for saturday. Rice bowl? Onigiri? Stir fry rice? Sweet and sour vegetables with rice? The possibilities are endless.

Edit: yay I have my own large mug! Internal snoopy dance moment.

Sounds like a plan and maybe rice salad with the extra portion .... (or could you not cook a bit less rice so it doesn't become endless? :))
