... don't understand this CFO.... they don't seem to be able to understand ... that those large packs of food are not suitable, or that I won't get through .... It's really hard to explain the difficulties to people that haven't lived on their own.

Yes, people treat us like idiots that can't manage as they haven't grasped the issue.

I'm also food fickle and do like to have different things all the time, so even "batch cooking" doesn't really work as I crave only eating things once, then maybe not again for 2-3 years. As there is so much I already have to "repeat eat", I prefer to try to be more flexible with things that lend themselves to it.

Yes, and then when then are left alone for whatever reason don't you then get told how to CFO like you haven't been doing it for years:mad:

PN hope it stays warm enough for you to get through all that delicious picking food..:D

Sunnyg I know what you mean about being down in dumps. I've no real reason except the weather and yet it feels almost wrong to be in the dumps when we finally have good weather!
For me it is to do with finding it hard to sleep, feeling I should be to doing something, making the most of it or whatever and that should maybe have someone to do it with ..and guilt when watch a bit of tv instead of catching the sun. i.e. .. beat myself up:(

Am getting myself psyched up to cook chicken beasts to have with salad… although the ease of a bowl of fruit is pulling me.

That's it in a nutshell I think Poppystar - the lack of energy in the heat and having nobody to do anything with anyway. I don't know if it's easier if you've always been alone, have been suddenly alone due to bereavement or are alone by choice. I guess that all situations have their pros and cons.

I have made smoked haddock, potato wedges and peas for tea all from the freezer so no real effort involved :D Lunch was marmite on toast and breakfast was the usual nothing with coffee.

On a plus note I have arranged to meet up with some university friends next week and have planned in a couple of jobs such as clearing the airing cupboard and a big pantry style room in the kitchen out. It houses the tumble dryer, vacuum's and a shelving unit where lots of stuff has fell trough the back of so I'll need to move it out of the way and unearth various lost items :rotfl:

The weather has been much more pleasant today - still 25 degrees but with a lovely breeze. Tomorrow is hot, cloudy and humid with storms forecast. I don't sit out in the sun so am not too bothered plus I prefer it a little cooler than it has been of late.

A quick gardening question. I have a raised bed across the width of the back garden. It's about 25' side to side and 3-4' front to back. What could I grow in food wise? Any ideas gratefully received :T

It's being nibbled perpetually :) Already scoffed a lot of the grapes, two packs of the crisps, two choc ices, 1/6th of the spud salad I made, 1/5th of the coleslaw I made, 1/3rd of the quiche -and- I've just been through to the kitchen and got the next 1/3rd of the quiche out and put it in a box to come up to room temperature ... so I'll be tucking in again in an hour or so most likely :)

The thing with CFO is you always have to choose something - and walk away from something else.... and, later on, you really fancy the thing you had to leave on the shelves :)

PN I don't know about walking away fro stuff you fancy but i've got a real yen on for potato salad now.... I'm going to make some either later on or tomorrow morning. Just got to find something for it to go with now ;) I don't have salady stuff in at the moment so not that but maybe to eat with some cheese or hard boiled eggs as I have two left. Out of date but they've passed the water test like Caronc's did :)

Hopefully making some plans will help banish the dodrums.:)

That's a huge growing space so lots of possibilities, it's too late to start some stuff but still fine for peas, beans and salad greens/ radishes. I start these every few weeks in small batches so in theory I don't get too many at once. You could also grow leeks for later on in the year. For ideas for next year Google "square foot" gardening - it's usually done in raised beds but works well in beds as well- it gives you an idea of what to plant where and how many plants you can get in by square foot.

    Good evening everyone,

CFO is definitely something that folk who don't have to do it or only for short spells can struggle with. A year ago I would have been the same:o

It's been a beautiful day here around 20C so pleasantly warm :D . I managed to get the bed in the front garden weeded and planted an acer tree, heuchera and lavender so hopefully they'll all take and that'll be much less room for the dratted weeds. The rest is still needing a fair bit of work but I'll get it done gradually :) . Think I might have over done it a bit as my tinnitus is banging away but I'm really pleased I managed it. Time for a cheeky glass of red while the pork cheek chilli heats up ;)

All pigged out now .... had another bit of that quiche, spud salad, coleslaw, one of the salad tomatoes from last week (still 4 to go), a big spoon of hot chilli relish just because it exists and I fancied a blob of something a bit tangy on the plate and a few random grapes on the side.

That looks really nice. You are much better at plating it up than I am. I tend to just sort of dump it on the plate when it's just for me :D
