Cooking for one

You know - I'm getting it worked out in my mind what one of those "all round the houses meals - with a different course or whatever at another house" might come out like by now.
Caron will introduce us to things we might not otherwise sample and some "finer" cuisine - with duck eggs etc
Kittie and I will chuck in health food type courses into the mix (if we're on form that is). With Kittie throwing in things with a bit of a "European" slant (eg sauerkraut) and mine will be "whatever I've only just heard of and it's just come into fashion or is about to do so" (yep...right now - that means a recent purchase was a can of jackfruit - and I'm planning on doing a vegan version of pulled pork with it. It's currently doing the rounds in America - should be here in a couple of years time - so might as well get it in first here...).
Then we all finish up at Pastures News' place - because she's sure to have chocolate in in some shape or form or another - be it "choccies" or choc ices

Have I missed anyone's "specialities"?:)0 -

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:I'm not sure my cuisine could be classed as "finer", I just like to eat a wide range of things preferrably bought at a good price. If you are all pitching up here do you fancy cullen skink or traditional stovies? I'm assuming by the time we organise ourselves it will have cooled down a bitpoached eggs - duck or hen are fab with both
. Doom & Gloom- I make a mean vegan curry or burger so you won't be left out . PS - We need to go to Holly's for HM cakes at some point and cherries at Farways:)

Though cullen skink and stovies both rate as "new to me" (usually a good indicator of what I will choose)....as someone who never eats meat and rarely eats fish = I'll plump for those veggie burgers too then:) - but I could have duck eggs with them...0

I'll bake a couple of cakes and different crumbles for pudding.
Pastures will provide the chocolate and maybe some coffee to round it all off. We could also stay there overnight (well she does live at the seaside, so we may as well make the most of the weather) then for breakfast we could have crumpets and honey nut cornflakes. When you put what we all eat together like this, it sounds really good0 -

Me too... I'll often eat out of the plastic container I've nuked things in. You have to think to how many times I have a photo ... probably 1-2x a month
The first slice of that quiche was put into a plastic takeaway box on the worktop to come up to room temperature for an hour... I then spooned the spud salad and coleslaw into that container and ate it from that.
This is the second portion, when I wanted to have more of a feeling of "having a meal".
Mostly, though, I will just "rough it" when it comes to "plating", which rarely happens. Many's the time I'm sitting here eating food from pyrex jugs, retained microwave meal plasticware and takeaway boxes0 -
Not forgetting all those strawberries I have at the moment - with my glut from the garden. Loads given to a friend/loads in the fridge/loads in the freezer.......
So I reckon it's strawberries for pud at the communal meal.0 -

I think you've over-rated my house!
You can have coffee if you like L1dl £1.39 instant - and bring your own mug - I've got four that I use to cook in and they don't match as they're all for cooking different items, so they are different sizes/shapes. Also, you'll have to sit on the floor, I've no table or chairs and it's hit or miss if it's a month when I've bought a pint of milk
As for staying .... you can camp in the tiny garden if you must, but there's no space in the house.
Mine isn't a house rated for "entertaining".0 -

You're not the only one with a load of mugs that don't matchAlthough I do also have 4 that do.
The coffee will be fine, and I'm sure that we can all sleep in the garden in this weather, in fact it would be nice
My home is far too small for entertaining really as well. It is only a 1 bed bungalow, but the sitting room is quite large so I have managed to get a folding dining table in it, but only have folding chairs that live in the shed. Thankfully it is a really large brick built shed.
My ex is an architect and he has drawn up plans to put an extension on which would give me another bedroom and a dining room, but to be honest I'm not sure that I need it. It suits me as it is.0 -
This morning I've knocked up a bit of cous-cous salad and boxed that in the fridge .... and I went with orzo/tuna/sweetcorn/chilli in the end as that was in my mind and to make anything else would require more thought; I made enough of that to fill a takeaway box.
Salads are awkward because you really want a big selection of things to dip into - but the more you have, the slower you get through each item so it becomes a chore.
I usually start with "something" and then add in another couple of "somethings" that are different in the next few days so no two plates are the same.
I've actually, probably, got too much now .... but that's life
I do wish I'd bought 2 quiches though, both the same. This one's lovely. But not worth a 16 mile round trip (£3.20 in car costs) to buy an 83p quiche
I have to pop out, 2 miles return - but in this heat I'll be taking the car as I couldn't walk that far in this heat .... I don't have an appropriate hat to wear and I get light-headed after 3-4 minutes in direct/really hot sunlight. Not normally a problem as it's not usually this hot ... and I don't go out much.
But this weather is exceptional, so I'll take the car.
Indoors here, with all the curtains closed since the sun came up, it's 82F/28C0
