Cooking for one

PN - I wouldn't rush to use up your milk, it should be fine for a few days after the Use by. I've just finished a carton today that was use by 22/04/17 and it was absolutely fine not even a hint of sourness!0

Hi everyone,
I haven't had to cook today as I got taken out for lunch by a friend, and then we stopped off at Waitrose on the way home and I bought a slice of carrot cake to have with a cup of tea this evening.
From now on I have got to start eating a proper nutritionally balanced diet because my health is starting to suffer because of the way that I have been eating. My GP is now doing two weekly blood tests and weighing me each week. The hope is that with good nutrition and a bit of weight gain my health will improve.
I think I have spent far too long just muddling along with food because I have been CFO and not eating properly, and now it has caught up with me0 -
I've just had a cheese n red onion wrap for tea.Am craving camembert, so might pop to ALDI tomoz, as they stock my fave
We're all going out for a curry on Sun night for DD's birthday, so don't really need a lot until I get paid on Tues :j
Did I mention doing a curry in the SC the other day, n didn't realise the pot was in the sink , until it was cooked :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Sounds as though you are being well looked after by your GP Hollyharvey. If you need to gain weight HM salad dressings can be a good way to add calories to healthy salads and grains. Once made the dressings if in a jar keep for ages in the fridge so no CFO use up dilemmas. (I've got one on the go my son made on Easter Sunday) Oddly I struggle more not to gain weight in the summer as I'm a greedy pig when it comes to salady bits of course with lashings of dressing, cheeses and hunks of bread and butter. Has you GP given you any tips?0

I'd be funny about milk, I still remember how it used to be when it used to go off... nasty stuff. Mentally I'd just not be prepared to use it.0 -

Yes, my GP is really good and always goes the extra mile for his patients.
He hasn't given me any tips at the moment, but he is hoping that a dietician will be able to start working with me before too long, but owing to the situation with the NHS in this area he has been told that it could be up to six months before one becomes available
It needs to be kept fairly healthy because I am already on an 18 week waiting list to see a cardiologist as an urgent referral and I don't want to risk making the cardiac problems any worse.
Like you I love salad type foods, but I have got to get a good variety of other vegetables and fruit in there as well because the blood tests have shown that I am malnourished, this came as quite a surprise as well as a shock. So I need to make getting good nutrition a real priority. I think that I may have to stop trying to make sure that I don't keep eating the same things over and over just to use it up and need to look more at perhaps just giving things like the half of a cabbage or packet of kale that gets eaten day in and day out for a week to other single friends and get a greater variety in my diet. It won't help my bank balance but at least I won't be wasting food, and I am at the stage where my health is more important right now.0
