The trouble isn't grating 3-4 large florets.... the trouble is staring at the rest of the beast and thinking "how on earth will I feel like fancying all of that in the coming week".
You can grate frozen florets too .... if you care. Toss the stalk stubs back into the freezer to be lobbed randomly into veg mixes or slow cooker things. But ... it's that "motivation" that's the real issue, not what one can/can't do
The grater is the OHs. He uses it for his cheese and while I'm sure he cleans it well I just can't get my head around using it. Out of all the utensils we have it's the only one I refuse to use or have used for my food. I don't understand how you can really get a grater clean, really clean by hand as no dishwasher. We all have our oddities, this one is mine. The blender is 100% vegan, OH knows not to use it for anything non-vegan. Again due to the really clean issue. It's a high power 'self cleaning buy pulsing' kind but it gets a through clean regularly despite that.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Anything special to eat seems an extravagance when it's only me.
Well, in this instance, how does that phrase go from those blinkin' shampoo etc adverts? = "Because I'm worth it....".
Think of that as a reason why it's worth doing even when CFO.
Think of eating properly as a "to keep your strength up" - as in quite literally you are doing the best you can for your health by making the effort to eat reasonably and will minimise health and looks problems by doing so.
That's part of how I look at it personally and it does help minimise the chance of health/looks problems.
I can also resonate with caronc's comments re it's something to do as well. Living where I am now - where there are less "social life events" going on in the community than I'm used to and some of them are very family-oriented and/or not basically in English (memories of not understanding a word that was said at a "cawl and chan", ie soup and song evening I went to for instance) equals not going to some of them anyway = greater need to be "self sufficient" in that sense and focus more on hobbies and interests. So add together a greater need than before for hobbies etc/I've got a proper garden at last (ie better able to grow food)/very few places I want to "eat out" at and ramping up the home cooking is an obvious one for me.0 -
Anything on toast and sandwiches are surely the oneskis staple diet..I know they are eaten quite a few times a week in this house
On toast for me is generally simple stuff like peanut butter (quick and easy when hungry) also love sardines on toast ...thats a throwback from when I was a kid...if I want a treat its butter and golden syrup...cheese of course with a splash of lea and perrins ...pate of any sort but especially fishy stuff like mackerel pate
Not sure what is on the menu chez nelski today but I think it will be a choice of chilli/curry/chicken casserole from the freezer. After the last week or so of entertaining and freezing the results the freezer is back to being stuffed again which is frustrating I doubt this is ever going to get down to the level I want it
Just done my online shop for the Easter weekend and I fear there will be even more left over but hoping I have worked this one out a bit more effectively we shall see0 -
Hi karcher
The thing is, as a woman who continually cooks for family, I love it when DH is away and I don't have to cook for the whole family. The girls and I can have just a snack. I can rustle up a plate of easy food than make a sit down dinner and to be honest, we eat healthier the less food I need to produce because I don't need to be filling up a man who has worked nearly a 12 hour day.
I swear my weight would be better managed as a single woman! So, coming at it from a different perspective, I tend to think that extravegant cooking (my opinion as a woman who sometimes doesn't like the process I have to do, and have no choice about, on a daily basis) is over rated and I'm with you, if the cooking process is more of a chore than a pleasure you really can live a healthy lifestyle without needing to produce meals.
The toast thing? I used to live off the stuff but now we're nearly a no bread household. My tummy can no longer cope with it very well so I've changed to a batch of jacket potatoes frozen. One half defrosted, flattened and used as a base for whatever I'm having for lunch or if I really must I do well with sourdough bread made with rye flour. If I'm not organised a shop bought wrap but honestly, you don't want to look at the 'ingredients' of those things!0 -
What I put on toast depends on whether I am thinking snack, treat or a meal.
Snacks and treats tend to be banana, jam, syrup etc.
A meal would be beans, egg, pilchards, cheese, bacon and tomato etc.Slimming World at target0 -
My organic veg came this morning and I ordered portabella mushrooms, long sweet peppers and mozarella, so I set to and have finished food for lunch
Roasted lightly the peppers and a whole garlic bulb, squished out the garlic and peeled the peppers. Blizzed with olive oil and now spread on the 4 mushrooms. All topped with fresh mozarella, the rest will be for a pizza in a couple of days. two are grilling, other two for tomorrow, If there were more than me then it would be one as an appetiser but c`est la vie
Yesterdays soup was uttely yummy, the passata and a handful of barley turned it into a meal. Will have that tonight
Muesli and soya milk for breakfast, grapes and a fig for morning break
dark chocolate after lunch0 -
