Had a hot turkey sandwich last night and had a sausage sandwich with ketchup and mustard followed by plums for lunch today. Still got this bread thing going on it's odd. Went to the greengrocers this morning, got some grapes, bananas, oranges and spring onions as well as the plums. Got some cheese from the butcher's as well, although nothing too random this time as they seemed to be focusing on chilli stuffed cheese's this week. Got some wooky hole and some goats cheese.0

I had an overwhelming yearning for crusty bread for brekky, but with a cool kitchen I'd have had a long wait for baked standard bread - no bread maker here. So soda bread it was, used up some yogurt for that, rather than sour milk. It was lovely, quick and clean to do in the food processor rather than spending a while kneading or getting hands sticky.
That was an early brekky for me, which meant I wasn't hungry at my usual weekend brunch time - but I was before my usual tea time.
So a very early, quick tea of a Birds Eye tagliatelle con porcini. This was price marked £2.99, think it was 99p or £1.25 in Heron.
Total rip off at full price. It cooked quickly over a low heat but with water evaporating off the sauce there wasn't a huge amount of food in the pan. I drained off a tin of sliced mushrooms and added those to make more than what looked little more than a snack.
Still wasn't enough, so I made up some couscous with a nicely spiced up stock and had that. Then I felt like I'd had a meal...Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I would have burned the pink candle, sculptured like a rose, that melted in storage." Don't keep things 'for best' - that day never comes. Use them and enjoy them now.0 -
Evening everyone,
beluga sorry to hear abouts your jobs- hope you get something else that suits you soon, I think we can all tend to comfort eat when we are stressed so cba cooking properly.:)
Farway - sounds as though you must be making cook progress in getting your garden ready.:)
Willowx - I have cheese envy:)
mcculloch29 - I always find these ready concoctions are more style over substance not surprised you were still hungry. I just adore soda bread and soda scones, plenty of butter and strong cheddar on them please:)
A lovely sunny day and warmish if you were out of the wind which is still artic. Temeperatures are due to dip down to near freezing tonight.... My son came back from Morrison's with two trays of pansies so I'm looking forward to planting up some baskets. Lunch was a tasty lorne sausage on a toasted muffin and a good splas of HP:) and tonight we are having pork chops with charlotte potatoes and asparagus (with lots of butter). Back to CFO tomorrow and haven't got anything planned- will see what the weather is like and take from there:)

In the spirit of still treating myself ...
I popped up to the shops for "goodies/see what I fancied" but couldn't spot anything I actually fancied/wanted... but as I was there I had to buy SOMETHING.
So I got a chicken korma/rice and a pack of mini cheesecakes and some chocolate fingers. Tea was curry, cheesecake, biccies.
Bought a new pack of eggs, so I don't have to worry about using up the last one of the previous pack and then having a genius idea of what to make that needed that egg.
I also bought a random pack of tortilla chips .... er, why? Not sure, but I did. My mind spoke of fabulously topped cheese nachos etc etc .... my cupboard now just says "bag of tortilla crisps" ... oh well.0 -

Though my favourite is tortilla chips, a big bowl of chunky salsa and a glass of red:D0 -
Afternoon everyone:hello:
The sun is sort of shining - well it would be if the cloud lifted but it's none too warm!
I'm back to CFO today until the weekend, toast and bacon for a lateish breakfast so nothing for lunch as yet. I cooked extra potatoes last night so will have these tonight with a bit of steak, I've still got asparagus anf green beans so may well use these and a few mushrooms up.I'm hoping to maybe get some more seeds planted for the consevatory shelf.
I've just finished mopping the floors and of course elderly pooch who was fast asleep has now walked all over them......

It's been a sunny 'scorcher' here today, early morning pop to a car boot sale and, luckily, there was something there for £1 that was on my list of things it'd be handy to have.
As it was so nice I fancied a burger - but I'd already eaten them the other week, so I popped out and brought some brioche rolls, tomatoes and burgers. Sat on the patio chomping a cheeseburger with chilli ketchup in a brioche roll in the sun .... first time I've tried brioche, wasn't impressed, not worth the huge extra cost over regular bread rolls.
I'll probably cook that again later for tea.
Breakfast had been two scrambled eggs on two pieces of toast and a splash of brown sauce.
So scoffing for England today!0 -
Phew wot a scorcher here as well, out pottering again but put the baseball cap on today, factor 30000
Up with the lark, in fact a tad before the lazy beggars, saw the sunrise for a change
The early start did not change my breakfast, same old toast & marmalade
Then off to Morrison's to replenish the doughnuts, found out my voucher is not valid until Easter but made no difference because there was not much I fancied, and the RFQS are joke prices, knock 20p off £3.50 and expect us all to flock round
Finished up with fake cheapo Instant whip, made from potato flour I note, is that one of my 10? Thought not. It was the talk on here that made me do it, not expecting much for 16p TBH
Found nothing to inspire a meal tonight, thus it will be veggie 3 egg [STRIKE]omelette[/STRIKE] frittata using mushrooms bought in the week and waiting to be used, already have cheese, toms, defrosted sliced mixed peppers, onion from fridge, job done. may have some chips with it, I will look like a chip soon
Lunch I decided to try baguette pizza as described on here, worked OK, but I think I may have plebbed it by using ketchup instead of passata / puree
It was OK though but not sure if worth the effort, or more likely the way I did itGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Afternoon oneskies
Back from my weekend away where I ate and drank for Britain
Friday we had a lovely home cooked meal ...Prawn cocktail and slow cooked lamb with roasts and veg. Gorgeous. :T Along with that there was a lot of gin, wine and port so amazed I can remember how good it was lol.
Saturday we went to Whitby and had a fabulous lunch ...thai crab and prawn soup followed by lobster and skinny fries accompanied by wine and gin (bit of a theme here)
then back for a chinese takeaway saturday night with ....wine and gin :rotfl:
This morning we had a lovely breakky with gammon slices poached eggs toast and mushrooms very nice way to end to the weekend :j
So home and in need of a liver break now lol ..back to cooking for myself so thinking i might just have some cheese and crackers tonight as clearly I dont need any extra calories lol0 -
Evening everyone:)
Winter has returned, it baltic, pouring and blowing a storm. I've had my heating on for the last hour
I'm jealous of those enjoying a scorcher no risk of sunburn here;)
Nelski sounds like a fabulous weekend
Farway I quite like a pizza baguette but it's not the same as a proper one;)
PN - I like a brioche bun as long as it's not too sweet, some of them are overly sweet for me:)
I've had a right munchy day I'm blaming the drop in temperature so am working my way through rather lot of herby crackers as I fancy crisps and I don't have any. Unfortunately they are really moreish0
