Why is it that sometimes hard boiled eggs peel really easily; the shell comes off almost in one with no egg white stuck to the shell or bits of shell clinging for dear life to the white.

Whereas other times the shell refuses to be parted from it's innards and is impossible to peel and takes a lot of it hostage? And then, just to pee you off, leaves a few small pieces of shell which sneak in and destroy your sandwich?

If I weren't cooking for one, this question would have been discussed with A. Another...But luckily for my CFO comrades, I am sharing my query with you lovely lot ;):)

I think it's to do with the freshness of the egg. It is annoying when you get one that sticks. I love it when it simply cracks and drops away in two big pieces :)

    Loved the hostage description :)

pastures new, it is indeed to do with the freshness of the egg if it peels well or not. fresh eggs are not good to peel, older eggs are! atm we have on average 15 eggs a day from our girls so have to rotate well and friends/ family/ neighbours are well supplied with eggs!! so, in their good books! xx

Having only one egg left, I didn't want to "waste" it, in case I had a brainwave later on about how to use it .... so I thought I'd have toast for breakfast. Put the toast on, opened the fridge for the margarine and spotted a pot containing 1/2 a tin of beans/sausages I'd opened in the last 2 days.... so it became beans/sausages on toast :)

    Morning everyone,

Chinese meal last night was gorgeous and my son cleaned the kitchen up so win win for me all round :D

Not sure what food today holds but breakfast was crackers with a wee bit gouda cheese and the remains of a tub of coleslaw :)

Hello everyone, it's a lovely sunny day here, but I'm stuck in work :(

I had some bad news yesterday, one of my jobs is closing down in May. Looks like I need to start job hunting, but I'm still in uni so it's difficult to find something that fits in. I had three part time / bank cover jobs, one ended this week (short term contract) and the second is closing. The third is messing me about with shifts again. Not great all round, but I need the money so put up with it.

Cooking hasn't been very successful this week, been busy and CBA! Last night was the last of a pack of pork steaks, sliced and stir fried with some beansprouts (RTC and on their last legs) with some rice noodles and some leftover spring rolls i had in the freezer. Not very inspiring but easy enough. I didn't have time to prep lunch for today, so had some yogurt and cereal as it was easy to grab on my way out. Nothing out of the freezer for tonight either. I'm going to a friend's after work so am tempted to grab a take away on my way home, but feeling very down about my weight so it's probably not the best idea.

Does anyone else struggle with the weight piling on through comfort eating and lack of time / motivation to eat better? It's really getting to me ATM, but when I feel down I don't want to go out or do much of anything so I eat instead.

beluga sorry to hear about the jobs, I hope it improves, and you are not alone with the weight gains, same here but not feeling too down about it since my spell in hospital a year ago I consider everything a bonus now, honestly for me just walking with a stick is a plus from where I was then

Sun's out so had a bit of a mini bash in the garden, spot of light dithering around but the way ahead is now "seeable". I have got my garden sort of hobbling around friendly now

Poor pickings in Asda for YS, bag of mixed colour bananas for 20p and two tins of SP sardines @34p each. Looks like dinner is yesterday's remains of quiche / flan & chips, burnt pan is still in soak and may remain that way for a while until I get tired of seeing it there leering at me

Breakfast I just fancied a fried egg sarnie, not as nice as I anticipated, nothing wrong with it, like a lot of things the experience did not match the thought ;)

Lunch cheese, tom & cuc sarnie

one co-codamol & coffee post gardening

Bit stuck for meal ideas but I have coupons from Morrison's, one of which involves the ready meals for one and I quite like them so could be the way ahead for next week
