wifi without a phone line

Options
Is it possible to have wifi connection without a phone line? We are currently with BT and our costs are ridiculous yet we don't use the landline but need to keep the wifi connection.

Not unless you get a 4G router but the monthly costs for high data are extreme.
  • Possible, depends if there is a provider in your area. Typically rural though. Not really any cheaper. Our provider is Lothian Broadband.

I am with you on this. We pay daft prices for BT too and never use our land line as our mobiles have loads of inclusive minutes. We pay over £60 a month for basically our internet usage.

£60 even BT own website Unlimited Infinity is only £34.99 including line rental!

how do you think your broadband gets to your property ?

with bt you pay line rental and you broadband gets to your property down your BT line, if you do not make calls on your line then you will not pay any call charges but every time you use the internet then you are making use of your BT line to send and receive data

by bolting on unnecessary add-ons, accepting prices without question and not paying line rental in advance, std price for bt adsl is £22 to 25 (if you ask) or thereabouts including line rental and weekend calls
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand
  • As your ADSL and FTTC all run along your copper line to your property you will likely pay line rental for that line.

If we didn't pay for line rental, we'd just pay more for broadband.

An alternative to using a your copper line you could have a dedicated ether net line installed. This would likely be far too expensive.
  • There is a whole other conversation (possibly could be a thread) about BT's monopoly on the fixed line market, but that probably doesn't help
