In that case you pay Virgin's line rental which again is all bundled into the price and not a separate line item. Line rental covers the maintenance costs of the the line to your house whoever owns it. If you use a physical line to your house you pay to use it. It doesn't matter if it is a Virgin, Openreach, or Kingston (if you are in Hull) cable.

    No it isn't:

No you don't - Virgin Media have been offering it for years. My BB IS delivered VIA CO-AX, not twisted pair ADSL No physical landline or additional payment required

I can get broadband without line rental from VM for £8 less than broadband + phone. Phone line rental on its own is not £8 though.

Whatever VM call it on their bill, there is a line rental element included to go to the maintenance of their fixed line infrastructure, even if you are paying for "broadband only".

So you have a physical wire connected to your house. That is a landline.

See above. You admit you have a landline connected to your house. Landline does not just mean a Openreach twisted pair cable. It just means a physical cable that can be used for telephony/internet purposes. VM cable does that. You pay VM for the maintenance of this cable which comes out of the fees you pay VM for what they provide you - that is 'line rental'. They might not call it that but is what line rental on a Openreach line is - a maintenance charge.

The only way not to pay line rental (separate or bundled into one price) is to use cellular networks for your phone/internet needs as there is no physical cable then.

    Rubbish,

One of my BB links is wireless, community scheme, to the provider [not 3g/4G]. I guess I could do VOIP across it.

Not a common type of connection but works brilliantly.

    Also, there is satellite BB...

    Cheers

I suspect that @wongataa would argue that you still pay line rental for the cable from the satellite to your dish. :rotfl:
