Sorry to read about the lack of sleep - it truly wrecks me when I can't sleep properly. I have been only getting 4/5 hours recently and even trying to go to bed early doesn't work it just means I get up earlier. Hope the kids are feeling better soon.

How are you settling with YNAB?

It's a killer. I long for a whole nights sleep.

11yo still saying she's got a headache but 15 seems to be ok now.

I think ynab is going ok. I've got 0 to be budgeted and obviously lockdown is helping with the nsd's!  I just need to check what's come out the bank today for DD's and update.

I think the lack of sleep really affected me yesterday and I felt very light headed and foggy by lunchtime so I took the afternoon off work and laid in bed watching tv for the rest of the day. The wonders of wfh!  Had a better night last night and feel much better today for it.  Had a call with my team leader and he has said our HR department are working on a new Homeworking strategy so it may be in the future we work from home 2/3 days a week instead of commuting into Central London every day. I'd be very happy with that!

I've just made another overpayment to the Barclaycard - £96.21 so far this month.  I still plan to use the rest of this month's council tax money to make an overpayment but waiting towards the end of the month incase I need it for something else.  I've had to spend £130 of it on the vet bill so still £69 waiting to be used.

I've started my tilly tidying of my Monzo account too but only 91p in there so far! 😂

I also need to start looking for car insurance for MrM as his is due at the end of this month.  There's £306 in the savings pot which should cover it all with some left over which I'll just carry on adding to.  There's also £210 sitting in my petrol pot as we're not going anywhere!  I just put £25 worth in last week and will probably last me the month!

Can anyone tell me how much YNAB is for the year in £. please?  They give the $ amount and I am getting the first year free based on my student status, but want to make sure I have it saved up for next year. There's a shiny new Monzo pot waiting so I need to add that into my budget.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

  • I paid £62.62 when I subscribed in December, but I’m still convinced this was an error and it should have been £75.99 so that’s what I’m using as the target on my pot for the renewal.

Thanks GC.  My email did say I'd get a 10% discount for the first paid year but I'll put by for £80 to cover it.  I'm so determined to get fully on top of it this year.

  • Ahh, maybe I had a discount applied too without realising it! £80 savings goal sounds like a good idea, if it turns out to be less that will just give you a head start for the next year!

Have just done MrM's car insurance renewal.  Renewal quote was £201 and paid £181 via Money Supermarket with £35 to come back from Topcashback.  I watched Martin's show last week and can't believe how many people stick with the same insurer year after year.  It's like he says, these firms aren't loyal to you so don't be loyal to them.

Another poor night's sleep. I was ok until 3am when the dog asked to go out then I couldn't get back off.

I think one of the things on my mind is our financial situation.  Not like when I was deep in the doo and worrying about how to pay everything and live but now more like a game of chess planning my next move. Thinking about when my first 0% interest is finished (August) and what I need to do.  I plan to have the debt down to £20k by the end of the year but I'm not sure constantly looking at my spreadsheets and ynab is doing me any good even though I'm on top of everything.  I wonder if it's a subconscious thing of having attempted debt busting before, then slipping back into old habits and leaving it and it gets worse and I ignore it.  Worrying I might fall into that again.  I've never managed to tackle my debt for this long before.

This weekend I plan to do some baking with the 11yo.  I have asked her to pick a cake or cookie recipe from a book we have and then when homeschooling is finished, we'll pop up to the supermarket and get the bits we need.  It'll give her something to do over the weekend.

I've also paid the £69.24 left from the council tax to the Barclaycard. I was going to leave it until the end of the month but thought I'd rather pay it off now than have the temptation of it sitting there and being spent on something inconsequential.  So that's a total £170 overpayment made this month.

  • I’ve had a lot of similar thoughts about over checking my spreadsheets and budgets, I’m still trying to find the balance between checking enough to stay on track but not so much that it starts wrecking my mental health. I’ve seen similar posts on a number of other diaries so I think it is all part of the journey, we need to unlearn the belief that we’re bad with money.

The baking plan sounds good! I’m hoping to make some bread this weekend
