Another one sending virtual hugs, so sorry to hear about the home situation & hope things improve soon.
Did you email YNAB to see if you qualify for the student edition? In one of my past attempts with it, I was able to get the student edition with my professional course so it is worth asking.
    Thanks.

I've spent the afternoon doing a ynab tutorial and updating my budget. Just trying to work bits out. I've set the budgets but do they roll over to the next month once they've been done? So for example I put £30 a month into savings for birthdays. Do I have to reset the budget next month? It's confusing! 🤣

I haven't emailed yet but will shortly and see if I qualify.

Just weighing in on the hot tub if that is still on the table.  We looked into getting one but ruled it out given the number of times it would get used against not only the cost of installing it but running it and the work of changing the water regularly for health reasons and checking the levels every day plus of course the electricity which may be more than you think.  Even if your DH wants to spend his bonus on that without your agreement which is unfair as it is every bit as much family money as salary then why should you adjust your ongoing budget to cover maintenance.  It is also very unfair that most of the debt is in your name as if for any reason you split it leaves you vulnerable.

I think the lockdown is tough for most people given it seems to be ongoing so hopefully this is just a temporary disagreement. Hope you get on ok with YNAB.  Lots of people seem to like it but I could not get on with it.

  • Same here, we all love a hot tub and we also looked at one and decided against it. It costs approx £5-7 to heat and then £3 a day after that. We have decided to book one for ds2s birthday in April which at £200 for the week is expensive but I doubt we will be having a holiday this year so it's a nice treat X

I agree with you about the bonuses. We both usually get them and it's always gone in the family pot of money. We have a joint account and there is no this is mine or this is yours apart from our personal spending money.  He also knew I wanted to put it by so we could have a family holiday possibly in 2022.

The main reason the debt is in my name is purely because I look after the finances. So when I wanted to do a money transfer or balance transfer, I applied for the cards.  There is one in his name which I applied for with his consent but it currently has a 0 balance. It may even have been closed by now.  He doesn't want to know how much we owe, just asks if it's coming down.

Seeing as he still isn't talking to me, the hot tub is very much off the table!

I've just watched another ynab tutorial. I really want to make it work.  Going to go and have a nice bath with a bath bomb now to help me relax.

Definitely think I am becoming obsessed already. Couldn't get to sleep with ynab on my mind 😂

I have already realised that I am overbudgeted.  All these years I've been using my spreadsheet to track stuff but this has brought to light things I have been ignoring.  I have the vets bill to pay and not enough in the budget so need to move some money from somewhere, although I did have money left over from petrol spending at the end of the month so that should cover most of it.  Oh and of course the council tax payment as I pay over 10 months will give me an extra £199 this month and next.  I've been watching a few youtube tutorials.  There's still a few bits I'm unsure of but sure they will come to light the longer I use it.

Suddenly remembered it's my brother's 50th birthday next week so when I went to get dog food, I nipped into Tesco and picked up a card. I was given a £50 Amazon voucher at Christmas so I'm regifting it to my brother.

I seem to have cocked up my shopping this week and forgotten to add a few things on that are on my meal plan. I'll have to pop out tomorrow and will post my brother's birthday card at the same time.

It's a bit of a slow week for me financially. I got paid on Monday but MrM doesn't get paid until tomorrow and then the DD's start coming out at the beginning of the month.  I'm still obsessing over the ynab. Interested to see how it happens with the change in month. First thing I do when I log on to my pc in the morning is look at the budget and bank accounts 😂

I'm currently listening to an audiobook borrowed through the library.  Only got 26hours 49 minutes left!

  • Well done on the re-gifting, I forgot one of ds2's presents at christmas so took it back last week and with it bought my niece some pyjamas for her birthday from Sainsburys, nothing better than a free present lol.
I am exactly the same with checking my accounts etc, it can get  bit obsessive I think lol.  I got paid last week but the majority of my DD come out between now and the 1st x
