    Thanks everyone.

I have done it and told my current boss that I am happy to take the position.   It will probably have a start date of 1st March but there will definitely be a crossover as not all of the countries are moving to their final groups at the same time.

I have decided against getting an Amazon credit card.  There's just a small part of me panicking I'd end up using credit and building up some more debt so I'd rather not go down that route and leave my purchases as they are.

The power of advertising has got me though and I have spent £12.98 on a plughole hair remover thing 🤦‍♀️   I've also had to get myself and 11yo new earphones for our computer work. Her's, she can hear people but they can't hear her. I've tried them on my pc too and tried changing settings but nothing working.  And mine are very old bluetooth ones which are fine on my phone listening to audio books and podcasts but when connected to the computer and trying to have video calls, they are awful.

Have had a nightmare with the 15yo. School emailed to say he's not handing in assignments or necessarily doing the live lessons.  GCSE's are being marked differently this year after the fiasco last year and a lot of it is based on the work they are producing now.  He's always needed a lot of hand-holding for school work and we've had an afternoon of him crying because he doesn't understand what he's meant to do and has a shed load of assignments to catch up on.  We are going to try and make some space in the front room to get another small table in so he can sit down here with us as there is no room for a desk in his bedroom.  Ah the joys of homeschooling and wfh.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

  • Congrats on the job. Hope all goes ok for 15yo, so tough for them at the moment, a space near other in the family working might help his motivation so that's a really good idea.
Current mortgage (1 Jun 2022): £289,501 - originally £351,999 got to love London sized mortgages!
    OP Goal 2022 = 3.75% in OPs: £6,975 / £13,200
Emergency Fund Target: 3 months saved ✅

Talking as someone who was at school in the 60's I think part of the problem that so many teenagers are having problems now is that their education has been one of collaboration in that they sit in groups at school and there is a lot of work in those groups.. (Please teachers on here correct me iif I am wrong). When those of us are a lot older were at school we sat in rows, worked on our own from text books and listening to the teacher and copying work on the board and being punished for talking in class. If I am correct it is no wonder that so many are having to find working on their own as it is  totally alien to them. It is so hard on all the children and young people at the moment and I do wonder what is going to happen in the fture for them as they have missed so much. I do wonder if for a few years the only answer is to concentrate on the core subjcts of English, maths, science and a language but in doing that they will be missing so much that sparks interest in other things. I am just glad I am not a teacher who are doing an amazing job in horrible circumstances as are many other in all kinds of jobs.
Congratulations on the job and I hope it all goes well for you.

I think in part you are correct although some children thrive on a more "immersive" learning experience. With my boy, he struggles to pay attention and learn concepts so then needs further coaching because he can't grasp what he's meant to be doing. Having said that, both my kids have a completely defeatist attitude to anything they can't do.  🤦‍♀️

Waiting on a call from my boss regarding the move over.

I know what you mean about the defeatist attitude my daughter was the same and so are the granddaughters. I have to confess though I am a bit like that too. Its obviously in the genes. :)
