At the start of each month I go through my accounts to see what my total balance was at the end of the month. I've just done that & found an entry i don't recognise on my Sainsbury's credit card.
LIANYIN*TODAPPARELU SHENZHEN CHN

I've been in touch with Sainsbury's just now to see if they can provide more information. They were very quiet on the phone but it sounded like they started out saying it was a transaction for technology goods. I haven't bought anything that fits the bill, not at that date anyway & what i did buy was for much more than this questionable amount so it's not that.

Then they asked about clothing, children's clothing. Shoes.

Well i haven't bought any of that either & i'm the only one with access to this card.

I told them i'd gone through both the emails i use to buy things online to find a receipt & there was nothing that matches. I even went back a couple weeks before the date & still found nothing. I went through my PayPal & found no entry. Sainsbury's said it wont be paypal as it was a direct transaction.

They said no attempts had been made on the account as is usually the case when someone is trying it on.

They suggested a website that appeared English yet sourced/shipped from China. I said i had considered this possibility but when i checked through my emails i couldn't get any of the amounts paid to match the figure showing in my credit card statement, never mind what country it came from.

A long shot but is LIANYIN*TODAPPARELU SHENZHEN CHN familiar to anyone here?
Any feedback on how good Sainsbury's are at processing this? Or what i should expect?

Only once before have i experienced fraud on my account. This was probably 10-15 years ago on a Nationwide FlexAccount, but in that case a number of attempts had been made before the successful one and i got my money back.

I should also add that Sainsbury's told me they used Google to research the company & found entries for clothing, fashion. I used Google to search it and found entries for fakes, RipOff's. They never mentioned that.

Yes i found this. Strangely (or not) Sainsbury's never mentioned that website entry.

What bothers me is that Sainsbury's said there were no attempts made on the account, it was a direct transaction which would suggest i made it i guess? Except i know i didn't make it. Around that time i know exactly what i bought. I bought a screwdriver set at £22 inc postage, a Wii U controller at £26.99 inc postage and this strange transaction was for £28.pence and that is it. Nothing else.

So while it's not 'big' amounts like £500 it's still money i never spent. My concern is that as there were no attempts made on the account, Sainsbury's will just make their mind up that i must've surely made the transaction and that i am either A) trying it on or B) have forgotten i've ordered something and not give me my money back.

Surely there has to be some sort of trail leading to & from.
  • Have you told them to suspend the card? or cancel it and send you a new one with a new pin ?
  • I'll update this thread with more tomorrow after work.

In the meantime i'd be really grateful if someone could provide an address to write to Sainsbury's on the topic of disputing transactions.

I can find their phone number and a link to an online form but i would really like to write to them so that i can also forward on printouts to back up what i'm saying, so i'd really like a postal address which i can't find.

    Thanks in advance.
  • Sometimes just ringing and disputing a transaction is a lot simpler than writing.

Has the charge for the Wii controller appeared yet? Seems close enough that it could be it if you had inadvertently agreed to pay in another currency. Although if imagine Saintsbury's would have mentioned if it was foreign currency.

This could be right as I gave my cc details to a mate to book a flight home from the states and had two transactions appear after each other and the main one was the full flight cost then the second was the foreign exchange charge on my cc.
  • I am currently at work so to keep things brief:

I believe the unrecognised amount is actually the controller.
Check out for yourselves - PDM games. I bought a Wii U controller at £26.99. The website says free delivery in the uk.

Last night when searching deeper I found an email in my spam box from them AFTER I had paid which said I may be charged more than the listed price.

Maybe I missed it but I never saw notice of this on their website.

I've emailed them to say I haven't yet received it & I wish to cancel the transaction for a full refund.

A google search on PDM doesn't fill me with hope.

If it's already on a slow boat from china then you may struggle as it's going to be hard to tell them that they have to adhere to distant selling rules from a different country.

If what you ordered turns up then I'd put it down to experience.

If it doesn't arrive or is counterfeit (very likely and there are some really good counterfeits, compare the boxes and every minute detail of the controller) then I'd hassle the credit card company. I don't think the consumer credit act covers foreign transactions, but if you're nice then you may be able to get it dealt with by someone who doesn't know that or is willing to refund as a good will gesture.
