Setting up two routers
Comments
-
I prefer plex.tv for media management.
I have VPN but not at router level, I got 5 device lifetime unlimited for under $25
I use roku as client as well as laptops and mobile.
I only watch my own media, if you watch any live tv worldwide (as it is being broadcast) you need a tv licence, I don't. Netflix is not live nor is Amazon.
Seems to me that you are making it much more complicated that it needs to be.
Also, if you left your sky router on and it is connecting to sky routers with sky login you can expect a bill at some point.
I have seen some people migrate but old ISP left connection on and continued to bill, since code requirement to leave was dropped. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Why would using a Sky brand router make any difference? I don't use any sort of password apart from the Wi-Fi password.
So it turns out Unblockr doesn't work with Talktalk, something to do with them using DPI. So that rules out DNS so I'm back to VPN!
Anyone got experience of a good one?Hi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. Sky are notorious for locking in their routers and while there are ways around it they dont make it easy.
Most of the other ISP's are far more flexible and appreciate people may wish to use their own high end router to improve the signal.
I think as Sky primarily want to sell you TV packages via the router they prefer it locked down.
The problem is the sky hub router is pretty poor so once your more than a few metres away wireless speeds and signal start dropping rapidly.
We left sky a month ago for this reason.0 -

Yup, I had this problem too. Only on the VPN lines though. The response was 'We do not support VPN", like there is a difference. I asked for this in writing but got nothing, and I left soon after.
Also at my friend who left, after moving to another isp, sky left the broad band active, so he thought he was on the new isp, when he still was on sky. Putting the new isp's router box fixed this.0 -

Of course TalkTalk not locking their router down might have something to do with it being hacked.
I have Sky router and signal is tolerable, I have a cable router that does AC but only turn it on when I wan't to move a lot of data (terabytes).
BT say theirs is the best, TalkTalk update theirs every few year but most a just putting a front end on a badged product that can still be "hacked by users" with telnet or similar.
How many are providing Wireless AC? None as far as I am aware. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Update: I've signed up with Private Internet Access and managed to get it all working
(after a fashion - the MetalKettle repo method didn't work)
So now I can watch geoblocked content on my Pi.
I also enabled wifi tethering so now I can connect to the Internet via the Pi from anything. The only problem is, although it does connect I can't get the Internet to work
As soon as one thing gets fixed something new doesn't work :rotfl:SaveHi. I'm a Board Guide on the Gaming, Consumer Rights, Ebay and Praise/Vent boards. I bet you left the . on the end after co when pasting
And there is a backup and restore function in kodi to backup, copy or transfer your settings.0 -
Nope I didn't do any copy and pasting it was all done from inside Kodi - apparently it's a common issue which is where I found the workaround (which actually did involve copy and pasting and using my laptop etc)Hi.
