it's always been absurd to believe what politicians say
people should have learned by now

just think obama got a peace price just for repeating vacuous sentiments that had been said about 1,000 times.

I will wait and see how Mr Trump will perform.

Indeed. From what I've seen of him I have no confidence that he will be a good president in any respect but it's too early to judge him at the moment. Hopefully my fears will prove to be unfounded.

    Not a good start.

A false hood is called alternative facts, now that is very strange!
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.

Good president for who. He's no interest in UK domestic issues. We are mere bystanders.

Passport in rights for British banks and maybe other firms to do business in the US on same terms as US companies sounds interesting.
Proudly voted remain. A global union of countries is the only way to commit global capital to the rule of law.

I deliberately didn't mention the UK in my post as it's blatantly obvious that he has no reason to do the UK any favours.

The questions, as far as I'm concerned, are what he does in relation to the environment, what he does for the rights of the US citizens and what what happens next to world relations.

What he has said with regards to the environment worries me.

I am not encouraged with his thoughts on the rights on minorities.

He appears belligerent with regards to international relationships.

Perhaps he will either calm down or listen to more learned advisors but from my perspective this has every chance of being an absolute disaster.

Trump is going to have to look for quick 'wins' to quell any disquiet and reassure business people in USA.

It's hardly surprising that he will prioritize short term measures like tax breaks over longer term things like the environment.

There's a lot of cash held by American companies offshore, just waiting for a sweetheart deal to repatriate funds.

Trump will need to find funds somewhere to kick start an infrastructure program. Hmm, maybe we will see him link the two?

I hope the "weight" of the office will make him calmer than he presently seems to be.

A study of previous presidents shows that the office tends to just amplify whatever personal traits he has. Though to be fair, if he got into office by being him, why would he change instead of doubling down?

That said, I can only see this being a disaster, and it'd be pretty amusing to watch if it wasn't so tragic.

Does this sound like the sort of thing you'd expect from a rational governance? https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jan/22/donald-trump-kellyanne-conway-inauguration-alternative-facts

I mean, they are trying to continue a totally pointless argument against all of the facts, and have even coined the phrase "alternative facts".

A man of his word. How long before the NAFTA falls by the wayside as well. Setting the foundations for encouraging US Corporations to return onshore.
