Thanks Bluegreen, not sure I've seen any of the reading scheme books in our libraries but will check next time I'm in. I know that DS likes to check which level he's on with the school reading books and how many books are left to read on that level.
Hi Baldybear 👋 nice to "see" you. Thanks for your kind words, I don't think I'm a natural parent, it feels really difficult to me and I really struggle with it all sometimes. My DD is a completely different kettle of fish compared to my DS although he has a large stubborn streak too! He was refusing to learn French last year with his class and would just stand up, pick up his chair and walk to the other side of the room then sit with his back to the teacher rather than participate! This year he's actually quite interested in it. 🤷♀️
DD can behave and does at school (mostly) but when she gets home she is usually exhausted and in a foul mood. Last night there was a tantrum over some headphones (we have bought the kids a pair each to try and get used to wearing them when on their tablets etc in case they need to use them when travelling) she was screaming after 1 minute and didn't want to wear them. Then we had a tantrum because she didn't want to watch what I put on the tv, then there was a tantrum at bedtime because I wouldn't read a third story and she screamed for 15 mins solid and wouldn't get into her bed. It's exhausting!

The wind yesterday was awful, speeds were up to 100mph and we're on top of a hill and on a corner so got it very badly. We have some damage to our roof and DH's wooden garden bar was picked up and carried across the garden, it landed on its side so we thought it might be saved but the wind proceeded to rip it to bits. 😔 Didn't even have it a year and it was pretty solid! It wasn't safe to go out and try to right it. Our garden shed was also shifted about a foot by the wind but thankfully not blown over due to the heavy contents, just shows how strong the wind was. 😧 DH is going to bolt it down when he has time and has contacted a roofer to come and look at our tiles. Thankfully no water ingress that we can see, looks like end plates/tiles on the front and side of the house that took the brunt of the wind. Hoping it won't cost too much to repair, will need to use some of the emergency fund to cover it.
So that's a nice bit of stress we didn't need! There are trees down everywhere and a lot of damage to buildings, hope we don't get another storm like that again.
Have been trying to keep my steps up as not out taking the kids to school and back so did a 5000 steps workout with Get Fit with Rick yesterday and today. DD joined in for a bit then got bored and lay watching him on the couch wrapped in a blanket. 😂
Kids are driving me mad as constantly chattering and following me about. In slightly better news DS is enjoying Dog Man and is trying to read some of the shorter words.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. That sounds horrible about the wind, hope it's not too costly."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee2

So sorry to read about all the wind damage ☹️ Wind is so destructive.Your DD sounds very much like my DGS and he was finally diagnosed with autism after 3 years of tests. If you like Rick I can highly recommend Reps to the Rhythm which is very similar but a bit faster with no talking and several cats 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Thanks all, still waiting on the roofer coming out to have a look 🙄 think it must be a small job and they're not in a rush because they have so much work after the storm that they can pick and choose.
SA, I tried Reps to the Rhythm and the kids had great fun cat spotting, cat counting and comparing colours of cats, they also enjoyed the occasional cat tussle. 😂 It made a nice change from Rick's endless chatter 😂 I do like him but sometimes a bit of quiet is nice too.
DD still having small meltdowns most days but we have compromised on the school bag - I carry it to school for her and she wears it on the way home. At least she's carrying it one way, I was carrying it both ways before! School don't seem to want to refer/look into behaviour until primary 2 and she does behave there most of the time. She has her P1 child development check soon and the form asked about any concerns with behaviour etc so I noted on there the violent outbursts and also took a note of the school nursing team phone number.
DD was in bed with us from half 11 until 5am so I was squashed between her and DH again and didn't get a great sleep. She has been coming in 5 nights out of 7 but usually only stays for an hour before going back to her own bed. This is still an improvement on her waking up at 1/2/3am then waking me up and making me go into her bed with her every night for a couple of hours.
The school actually called me about DS and we are having a meeting in a couple of weeks with his class teacher and the deputy head who is in charge of the learning support team in the school. So we can see what they think is going on and whether he has improved in the last year or not and if he needs to be referred. The last time we spoke about referrals we were told the waiting list was 5 years for testing. 😧
Dog Man was a hit with DS and he's asked for the next book. 🥳 He was trying to read the smaller words and was recognising others but the longer words were beyond him. I'm just glad he's enjoying it though and actually enjoyed it myself. 😂
Went for a run yesterday after school drop off, I really didn't want to go and told myself I could just put on my running stuff and walk to school, then if I really really didn't want to do it I could just walk home again. By the time I got to school I decided I could try but gave myself permission to give up if I was feeling rubbish. I managed 5.4km and felt really good afterwards so I'm glad I did it, probably won't be able to get out for another run for at least a week after getting the EVLA tomorrow for my varicose veins. Will have to see how my legs feel. 🫤
DH banged his knee on something on the train at the start of the week & is having trouble bending it and walking up and down stairs now. I taped his knee with physio tape so that he could go to work yesterday and he is trying a knee support today. Hoping it's just bruising rather than a proper injury but he'll need to go to the Dr soon if it doesn't ease up.
Today we walked the kids down to school and then back home, I've done some yoga, put away 2 washings, hung another up, stripped and remade the kids' beds, got the dirty sheets in the wash and now in the TD plus got the kids' uniforms out for tomorrow morning. I'm working late shift tonight but have taken tomorrow off for my EVLA procedure and then not back until Sunday late shift. My mum is picking the kids up from school tomorrow so we don't have to rush about getting back from Glasgow. My procedure is in the morning and DH is off work so will come with me and if I'm feeling ok we might go for lunch afterwards as we don't have to do school pick up.
