The retirement lunch was good and my hangover wasn't too bad the next day, although I was sick when I got home. 😧 That never usually happens but I did have some wine towards the end of the night so it was probably that. I actually managed to do yoga the next day so my hangover obviously wasn't bad and it only lasted one day instead of the usual 3!
I have managed to get quite a few washings done on the dry days recently which is good as can hang them out on the line. The weather was very wet yesterday, it was fine rain but constant and got soaked waiting in the playground for the kids to come out of school. 😩 I managed to finally get round to my pile of sewing that's been hanging around for ages, mostly seams that had split and a couple of small holes in things. Took about an hour to do and one less pile of stuff.
The kids went back to school last Friday, DD did great on her first day at school and ran in the door without a backward glance! She was really happy at home time as well and said she enjoyed it. DS seemed to have a good day as well and seems to be settling into his new class ok, we were a bit worried as it's a different class structure for him this year.
DD has homework already! So I need to try and get her to do some writing after school today, she had a screaming fit all the way to school this morning saying she didn't want to go/she wanted to stay with her daddy etc. She was so loud that my watch gave me an alert for loud environment and a decibel reading of 90. 😂 DS was disgusted with her and kept ranting about not wanting a stupid sister. After all that she went into school no problem!
I went for a walk after school drop off as I'm only on week 2 of my 4 week running ban from the pelvic physio. 😒 Did 5.1k this morning and previously did 8.6k last week (and dragged DH with me as he was off) but just not enjoying it as much as running.
On Saturday I managed to clean the whole house, deal with a couple of washings and make cheese & onion quiche with potato wedges for dinner along with 3 different loaf cakes. We had cheap electricity most of the day so I managed to make the most of it.
DH & I have been thinking about trying to get away for a weekend by ourselves in November, just trying to work out if we can afford it/save enough to do it. My mum has agreed to watch the kids for us which is brilliant. DH is still having massive anxiety right now and I think it would be good for him to have something to look forward to. We were hoping to go to one of the cabin type places we usually go with the kids and just have a really chilled out weekend on our own. We already have £300 saved towards it so hopefully we can manage it.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Thanks Beanie, we have booked 3 nights away in York rather than a cabin as DH wanted to do a city break. We enjoyed it last time so are happy to go again and do a bit more sightseeing (and no bottomless brunches/mixing drinks for me!!)
Have been doing loads of washing the past few days as had cheap or minus price electricity hours during the day. I’m working early shift the next 2 days so will get DH to deal with tomorrow’s washing pile. Really need to freshen up all the cat blankets soon too.
DD refused to do her writing homework the other night but I managed to bribe her to do it after school by offering her a Welsh cake. 🤣 DS hasn’t had any homework yet.
They both came home with their flu vaccination consent forms today so I signed them & got them back in the school bags straight away so I didn’t forget. It’s great that they get them at school, two less appointments for me to make and take them to.
DH & I get flu vaccination vouchers through work so we have both booked our own appointments already for the end of September.
I had my hair cut yesterday, it was about 6 weeks since my previous appointment. I think I’ll try 8 or 9 weeks next time as it did need a tidy up but it could have waited another few weeks. My hair seems to stop growing downwards and starts growing out the way so I look like a Lego person. 🤣
I have already bought a couple of small things for Christmas - a Lego book for DS & 2 baubles for the kids December boxes. I’m going to try & cut back on the number of presents I get for them again as it worked really well last year but I still bought a bit too much. We have £500 in the Christmas savings so far and will use that towards all the presents (including for my many nieces & nephews) and for the food. Another £200 or so will be going into that account before December as well so should be plenty.
Once DD’s birthday is past in October then I will concentrate on Christmas but will buy smaller things as I see them.
The outlaws are coming up for another visit in a few weeks. 🫤 Not looking forward to that at all, all they ever do is complain, never want to go anywhere or do anything with the kids and just get annoyed that we don’t do things the way they want. 🙄Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Oh what joy the outlaws visit is! I honestly have no words for their behaviour or why they would visit when they have an issue with everything. XSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.

We often used to go for weekend breaks, York was one place we enjoyed and Stratford on Avon was lovely. It will do you good to get away from parenting for a bit. Had to laugh at your watch sending out an alert for DD’s screaming 😆 I can’t imagine you were laughing at the time though 😬I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)2

Thanks all, yes the outlaws are weird, I think they only come up because they feel they "have" to and so they can pretend to their friends (the ones FIL hasn't fallen out with) that they are actually involved in their grandchildren's lives. 🙄 They have already been asking DH if we can go out for dinner on the Saturday night without the kids!! They wanted my mum to babysit! Neither DH or I want to do this and why should my mum have to watch the kids for the outlaws benefit??
DH just said my mum couldn't do it, so we'd either have to go for lunch on Friday when the kids are at school or go on Saturday with the kids. FIL hasn't seen the kids in well over a year, they are so not interested in them. I'm actually dreading it and every visit feels like a total waste of DH's rare weekends off. Thankfully they don't seem to want to visit that often.
We're both looking forward to our weekend away, we have 90% of the hotel money saved and then we can save for the travel and spending money.
We finally painted our bedroom after having the paint sitting there for a year 😬 and it looks really good. We were having issues with dark patches showing up though so had to do 3 coats on some walls which was tiring. I will need to get some new duvet sets at some point so they go better with the new colour of the room but there's no rush. We just need to buy some paint for the kids rooms and get them done in the next few months then we can finally get some new carpets upstairs.
DD has been settling into school well although we did have another few screaming meltdowns in the morning, one day she was trying her best to kick me so I couldn't get her dressed and then she refused to let me do her seatbelt (heavy rain so took the car rather than walking) and was kicking me again. Luckily DH was there so he got her sorted. She is such hard work at times, whenever she gets angry her first instinct is to hit someone!
It's a lovely sunny day today so I already have a washing out on the line and might strip my bed as well so I can get the sheets out. I have also started my Christmas cakes today as the electricity is fairly low for the oven and I think we have a free hour between 1-2pm as well.
Heading up to my brother's later, so the kids will be happy about that. DS went out to play again last night for an hour and actually came back - he was 5 mins late but at least we didn't have to go searching for him!Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. My youngest used to get angrily frustrated at times. We agreed that he'd hit the loose settee cushions (which were very heavy). That worked well for him, and I got plumped up cushions :-)
Maybe that'd work for DD? Are you still doing the star chart for good behaviour? What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?2 -
Thanks for the suggestions satchmo1, the star chart was a non-starter, DD didn't give a fig about getting/not getting a star. 😂 She has gotten better in that she doesn't tend to hit anyone other than immediate family now! Hopefully she will grow out of it as it very much seems to be a frustration thing with her and she also has a quick temper but then calms down again quickly.
We had a nice time at my brother's house on Saturday and the kids really enjoyed seeing their cousin and playing with the dog. DD had 2 toilet accidents though 😔 she has been doing this quite a bit since starting school after not doing it for a few months. I'm not sure if it's an anxiety thing as I think it has been a bit stressful for her. DS was very stubborn about not wanting to toilet train but once he decided to do it he only had a few accidents and then never had an issue with him after that.
I got some new lego star wars curtains for DS's room from v*nted for £15 inc postage so I was quite pleased with that, he also needs a new light shade. DH said he thought we should update them as his other ones are quite young for him now (cartoon cars/tractors etc). The new-to-us curtains are now up and look good although they're not blackout ones like the old pair. DS does also have a roller blind though so it keeps most of the light out apart from around the edges.
I'll need to buy some tights for DD for school soon as autumn seems to be on the way! Both kids will also need winter boots but have already got their winter jackets sorted. DD's new jacket is a bit long in the arms but hopefully by the time she needs it it will fit better. I wanted waterproof but also warm jackets for them both. Managed to find both for around £25 each on the Tresp*ss site and they are both nice and thick.
School photos are this week so will have to wrestle the kids into shirts and ties again. 😩 And over 2 days as they get an individual photo one day and then a sibling photo the next. Not sure that my two will agree to sit nicely together as they refused to do it when DD was in the nursery. 🤦♀️
Have managed to do a few surveys and cashed out £25 which went into our weekend away fund. Waiting on another £25 from OP and cashed out £15 from another survey site today as well.
I have been doing some core and strength exercise along with yoga but my cardio isn't good as I'm still banned from running (well run/walk for me). Another 2 weeks left of the running ban from the physio and I'm struggling, I miss getting out for a run and am not enjoying walking the same at all. I did do some get fit with rick the other morning after school drop off and that was a nice change so might do a bit more of that. Forgot how much he talks though. 😂
Normal physio for my sore tendons near my hip isn't really progressing, nothing much seems to make a difference with it and I have had 11 sessions so far. Thankfully my work have paid for these but don't think they will refer me again as have had so many sessions! Physio has now said it might need a steroid injection but probably best to try and get a scan. 🤷♀️ I will go to the GP but expect the waiting lists will be ridiculous. I'm getting a sore ankle on the same side and sometimes it puffs up and is very swollen but doesn't really hurt and other times I get pain across the front of my foot so I don't know what is going on.
Feeling very tired today and have to do school pick up then swimming lessons with DS as DH is working late shift, so will have to take DD to my mum's as well as she would want to go in the pool if I took her with me. DD still on the waiting list for lessons, fingers crossed she will get to the top at the beginning of the new year.
