Thanks all, DS is a very kind boy, it's something that has consistently come up in his parents' nights that he's very kind and caring to the other kids at school and his teachers have always adored him and he them. He loves babies and little kids, is very protective and has very strong ideas of right & wrong, he's also very vocal about things like litter and dog poo that hasn't been picked up i.e. "Why has that person not picked up their dog's poo? That's lazy and disgusting!" Of course always said very loudly in public. 😂 He doesn't have volume control. 🤦‍♀️

The family lunch was good in that it was nice to see everyone in the same place at the same time but the food and service in the restaurant wasn't great. They kept getting confused about orders (somewhat understandable as it was a big table) and forgot a few dishes. The kids were served 45 mins before anyone else so were all finished eating by the time the adults got their orders and were getting restless. The dessert order was an absolute mess as they had the wrong quantities of things coming out & didn't bring out 3 sundaes then were arguing that we hadn't ordered them. 🤦‍♀️ My SIL (brother's gf) asked to see the tab so they printed it out for her and she showed them the sundaes they said hadn't been ordered. 🤦‍♀️

The staff were obviously not interested and I don't think I saw any of them smile once the whole time we were there. 😧 I don't think we even got an apology so needless to say we won't be going back. I did feel for them a bit as it's not an easy job but most of them weren't even pretending to make an effort. The last restaurant we went to as a whole family (17/18 of us) were great, no mistakes, really good service and friendly atmosphere, so it can be done.

DD was, as per usual, challenging throughout lunch but on the whole the kids were well behaved. We were in a sort of side/small function room so the kids could run about a bit and weren't disturbing other people so that was good as well.

I went through my clothes yesterday and have found a few things to recycle/pass on to charity but still need to try on all of my dresses and decide which ones to keep. I definitely have too many clothes but find it difficult to let go of them (but what if I need this *insert item of clothing that I've not worn for years or ever*) and also still feel like I don't have the "right" things to wear.

This morning I went for a shorter run/walk and dropped DD's samples off at the doctors en route (DD was very clever and remembered we needed a pee sample so she did her morning pee into a cup so I could transfer it to the tube to be handed in - I was very impressed with her).

I barely managed 2.5km running today (did 3.5k walking) as the pain around my hip started flaring up again, it's always there as a dull ache but now getting worse when I run. Having a 4 week break from running seems to be the worst thing I've done, it was sore before but it was manageable, now it feels ten times worse. 😭 I was managing 7km run/walk with no increase in pain afterwards and now after 5k I'm in agony for a week.

Did some stretching when I got home and have used the tens machine. Hoping I won't be in agony later. 😔 Feeling very frustrated with this now as I've been doing the physio exercises for my hip for months and nothing seems to have helped or changed. The break from running seems to have made it worse because the muscles/tendons involved aren't used to it anymore. I don't know if work will pay for any more physio and I can't afford to pay £40 every 2 weeks for physio that doesn't even seem to help beyond a bit of pain relief for a couple of days.

I feel your pain re running i would literally back it right right off give yourself 4-5 days off.

Do this little pattern when you start back and i would run no more than 0.3-0.75km if your having hip issues. I know you can do more but running shouldnt hurt afterwards not like this/doms yes but not ouchy pain.

I dont know what days you run or how often etc but when i did a full marathon years ago my mate whose an ultra runner recommended this and it worked (he did Marathon des Sable google it lol or watch the James Cracknall vid on youtube)

    monday short run 0.3km
    day off
    wednesday mid run 0.5km
    day off
Friday or Sat long run 0.75km
    day off

He had me doing different paces/internals/hill work etc but until your injury free keep them all say super slow, if you normally run at i dont know say 12min mile pace do it 13-13/30min mile pace.

Do that for 2 weeks and see how you react to it. If you dont have any issues with it increase each run at most 10percent a week, then a week on week increase it.

re your hip is it hurting when your going standing to sitting round the front or is it the side of the hip? I would ice the area 4-5 times a day too for 5-10 mins and invest in some turmeric capsules too they do help.

Thanks for the info Scott, I'll give it a go. I wasn't too sore after the 2.5km, nothing like the pain I was in last week thankfully. I'm definitely going to take it slowly and hope to build back up to where I was before. The aching and pain is all on the side of my hip, apparently the trochanter and tendons there are causing the issue. I'm working on my physio exercises and have added a few more to help to strengthen that area.

Had the chiropractor this morning so my pelvis has been adjusted back to where it should be and hoping that will also help. My mum is going to keep the kids overnight tonight so we can have a bit of a break which is good. I might try to go for a short run tomorrow morning before picking the kids up.

Got my flu jag the other day so that's another thing ticked off the list. Have booked another haircut for the end of October and a facial in mid November. Will ask my sister if she can do some microneedling for me next month as well.

Work was ok the last 2 nights but I'm feeling tired as DD has been waking a lot again. She fell and skinned both knees really badly at school so was waking & fussing with her dressings the first night, the second night she got up at 2am to give her dad a row for not coming to see her at bedtime! Then she had a couple of nightmares which DH dealt with.

I have bought a few more christmas presents for my nieces & nephews, just some small skincare/shower things especially for the teens as I usually do a small bag of skincare (sheet mask, lip balm, spot stickers, cleanser etc) or a shower set and then give them some money. I also found the Bluey annual for £2.99 in HB rather than £7.99 from am@zon! So got that for DD as was going to buy it anyway.

DD's birthday presents are all bought, just need to wrap them and get cards and a cake for her party which is in 2 weeks. DH will make her a homemade cake for her actual birthday as the party is the day after. She keeps changing her mind over which cake she would like for the party, sometimes it's disney princesses and sometimes it's Elsa and then other times it's something totally random.

Going to try making another sourdough loaf this weekend, the first one tasted good but didn't rise properly as I think it was overproved.

Thanks Scott, I have a lacrosse/massage ball that the chiropractor had recommended I buy at some point so I can give that a go.

I managed to get out for a 2.75km run/walk on Saturday - I stopped when my hip and ankle were getting niggly and made sure to walk any uphill parts as that puts more pressure on my hip. I was a bit stiff afterwards but not too sore, my hip has settled back into its usual dull ache but my ankle has been playing up instead. I did some yoga balancing poses yesterday and think that aggravated my ankle.

Today I just did my physio exercises for my hip and a bit of strength training, think I'll have sore arms tomorrow. Will try another run/walk tomorrow after school drop off, if I could get to 3km that would be good.

Have had a busy day here as doing a lot of housework - got 3 washings done and put away plus yesterday's washing put away as it was dry, stripped and remade the kids beds, cleaned the bathrooms and did the big cat litter tray clean. Also emptied the kitchen bin, the food bin and the recycling bags into the right bins. DH hoovered the stairs and the bedrooms then got the shopping delivery in and we both put it away.

My second sourdough loaf turned out slightly better than the first, think it was still overproved so will try proving during the afternoon/evening rather than overnight as think it's just too long/too warm in my kitchen.

Last night I did another lash lift and tint, 7 weeks since my last one so it was about due - definitely getting easier the more often I do it and took slightly less time as well this time. Need to keep my eyelashes dry until 11pm tonight though.

Have parents night at school tomorrow but managed to get two earylish appointments so hopefully will be home for 4pm. Poor teachers are there until 9pm. 😧

Have been really rubbish at updating again. Parents night went ok, DS had a good report and unsurprisingly there were a few issues with DD. 🙄 Nothing too bad thankfully. They are now off for the October week, it's been 3 days and they're driving me mad, all they do is moan and fight with each other. I'm  actually looking forward to working late shifts at the weekend just to get some peace. 😐

I managed a 6km walk/run today which is the furthest I've managed since my 4 week running break. I've been building up the distance and only running once a week. I think my next move is to get back to at least 2 runs a week and see if my hip and ankle can take it. I've been doing physio exercises for both hip and ankles and my hip hasn't been too sore, still achey but not really painful. Feeling it a bit more today after that run so will use the TENS machine again later.

DD had her 5th birthday last week and had her soft play party the day after. She was quite moany both days as she's had another bug - high temp for a couple of days and a cough. DS also had the same bug and they both needed a day off school last week (on separate days!) and sounded like DD's whole class had the same bug from listening to all the coughing. She got a lot of lovely presents and overall had a good time though.

The soft play party was well run and the food was really good, sadly the place that did it is closing down as can't compete with the big soft play companies. About half of DD's class turned up for the party - the other half didn't even acknowledge the invitation bar 2 people who let me know they couldn't make it. Quite disappointed at that tbh, DH said maybe they didn't get the invitation but it was also posted on the class page in the app the school use so I'd be surprised if a full 10/12 parents all didn't see it!

DH & I talked about what we could do with the £50 per pay we'd been putting aside for DD's party and decided we would use it to start saving for a new tv. DH likes his tech 🙄 and we have had this tv for 7 or 8 years now so he's keen to get a new one within the next year. We have finally bought paint for DD's room, so hoping to do that soon and then DS's room after that. Then it's the carpets needing replaced and we need to re-think layout & sort some room storage for DS's room and DH's computer room/beer brewing area.

Went out last weekend with DH's friend & his OH (the one who isn't keen on us) and it was better than last time but definitely still getting odd vibes. I think we can safely say we're never really going to be good friends with her, rather just distant acquaintances. Feel a bit disappointed and we have wondered what we've done wrong but she's never really "got" us or gelled with us at all so just a case of someone we don't really get on with I suppose. She's never seemed keen to spend time with us and always had a chip on her shoulder about her OH getting drunk and staying over at our house (once!) before we had met her. DH had been friends with the guy for around 3 years at this point mind you. 🤷‍♀️ 😂

Looking forward to our York trip, we have around 4 weeks until that's happening. 🥳 We have managed to save nearly all of our spending money as well so feeling good about that. I'm also continuing to save small amounts towards getting my varicose veins dealt with, I'm hoping to get a consultation and ultrasound to see what treatment is recommended (and therefore how much it's going to cost!) in January next year.

Can't believe your DD is 5! Glad she enjoyed her party

Thanks Beanie, DD was thrilled with all of the presents and had good fun despite a few crying fits because she was still tired and not feeling great. Thankfully no more whole class expensive soft play parties for either child now. DH made her a chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and smarties on top as requested. 😊

Did a full clean of the stairs/skirting boards/bannisters etc the other day, they were so dirty and dusty, I really need to try and do it at least once a week. I also did full cleans of both upstairs bathrooms and cleaned all the shelves out in the showers as well - another thing I need to keep on top of. I really need to hoover the couches and clean the downstairs floors today. Have been pretty much keeping up with the washing but all the beds will need stripped and clean sheets soon as well. Have started another sourdough loaf so will see how that turns out.

Went through the kids toys and surprisingly they agreed to letting quite a few go, I'll ask school/nursery if they want any before taking to the charity shop. DD still has a massive amount of soft toys but she's not up for letting any go as yet!

Took the kids to the park for a bit yesterday and they enjoyed it, I feel like I'm going in circles and not getting anything done atm due to the kids being off school.

Have ordered a few more christmas presents for my nieces and nephews, bracelet making sets for my 8 & 9 year old nieces, a board book for the baby and an lcd drawing tablet for my 3yo great nephew. DD has one of the drawing tablets and she loves it and uses it all the time. My sister said her son & DIL have begged people not to buy my GN any toys for christmas as he has so many!

We have all agreed with my brother and sister that we're not buying the adults presents this year apart from my mum. We have so many kids between us that we need to save the money. 😂 My oldest nephew is 23 now so I buy for his son rather than him as well. We've also split the cost of a heated throw for my mum as part of her christmas as it will help keep her heating bills down a bit. She doesn't get her state pension until next summer and is really struggling for money now she can't work anymore. She isn't entitled to any benefits either due to her work pension (which isn't enough to cover all her costs) so it's a bit of a nightmare and she's now behind with her rent as well, which we didn't find out until recently. Hopefully she can manage until her state pension comes in because none of us have much spare to help her either and her lump sum has almost gone.

I'm still around, just not been posting. In decluttering news, nursery agreed to take the toys the kids agreed to let go so that cleared two bags of toys out of the house. 🥳  Hopefully they will get some use out of them and the nursery kids will enjoy them.

DD & DS went to the school halloween disco last week - DS who didn't want to go enjoyed it and DD who wanted to go hated it. 🤷‍♀️ DD said it was too loud and she spent most of the time crying. DS was at the same disco so he looked after her and some of the other kids helped too. DD came running out and said "It was boring and I never want to go to a disco again!" So that was great. 🙄 They will probably be pestering to go out trick or treating later but I hate doing it so doubt we will bother with it. DH is working late shift, lucky him.

I have applied for a new job, it's still job share and in the same company but a different department. The hours are slightly better in that the earliest start is 7am and latest finish is 7pm but there is an on-call commitment. Just now my earliest start is 6am and latest finish is midnight. There is still weekend working but more weekday working i.e. 7-3, 8-4, 9-5 so if I did get it I would need cover for school drop off and pick up at least twice a week, sometimes 3 times a week. There is a breakfast club and after school club but obviously that costs so hopefully wouldn't need to use either too much between my mum and DH.

The wage is slightly higher than the one I'm currently on but not by much. I just thought maybe it would be good to have a change. I might not even get an interview tbh so I'm trying not to worry about it all too much. I have been in my current job for 14 years so a long time since I've had to do an interview, I've never been any good at them in any case.

I need to email into work tomorrow to try and move my annual leave for next year to match DH's - we are both issued annual leave blocks (different areas of the same company) but not the same ones so I need to request a swap to the block DH is in. It's an absolute pain as everyone is trying to move into a block that suits them and they have rules that might mean I can't get into the block I need. I might need to ask someone else to move out so I can move in etc. Luckily my job share partner doesn't mind which block we are in and has agreed to move to what I need. I will also request lieu days in case I can't get the annual leave block.

DH's friend is coming to stay for a few days next week as DH is on annual leave, they will be going out for a full day & I'm escaping the following day to go out for lunch with my 2 retired work friends. DH & I are heading down to York next weekend as well for our mini break from the kids, looking forward to it.

I managed to get out for another run this morning, still struggling with my hip but it's actually my ankle that's bothering me more now! Still doing physio exercises to try and strengthen both but not sure how much they are helping. My sister did some micro needling on my face last week and she said maybe I should try her osteopath for my hip and ankle. I might do that to see if it makes any difference. I also have an in person appointment with the NHS pelvic floor physio this week to assess if my strength has increased at all and if there's anything else we can do to stop the stress incontinence. It's mostly only high impact things that cause it now but I'd still like it to stop.
