😆 beanie, I think that's what spare rooms are for!
Yesterday I sorted out the veg drawer of the fridge and chopped up 3 peppers and a butternut squash for the freezer as they were starting to go a bit squishy. Also separated out the garlic bulbs into cloves and put in the freezer then roasted the homegrown tomatoes with some garlic in the ninja. I blended this to make a sauce and we used it today with pasta for lunch, enough left over for the kids to have some with their dinner and still a full portion left too.
I had to collect DS early from school yesterday as he had the runs and had an accident. 🤦♀️ So he won't be back at school until next week, possibly next Friday as it's the September weekend Fri-Mon then there are potentially strikes for 3 days. 😩 He actually seems fine apart from running to the toilet every so often.
DH and I were going to go swimming this morning but couldn't go as had DS at home and my mum was taking my niece to an appointment. I had my flu jag late morning as well so DH was a bit grumpy and didn't want to "rush about". 🙄 I walked DD down to nursery and she cried and tantrumed the whole way then was all smiles and sat down nicely with her group at nursery! Usually she has to be dragged away from me crying dramatically. 🤦♀️
Have mostly been doing washings today as tomorrow will be my big cleaning day before DH's friend arrives tomorrow night. I need to hoover the couches, clean the floors downstairs and hoover upstairs, clean the kitchen and bathrooms and put the duvet set on the spare room bedding. Will have at least one washing to hang up tomorrow but we have had really heavy showers today so doubt I'll get it hung out.
Got some more survey money through so have paid another £20 off the smallest CC and have sent £20 to the Edinburgh fund for our overnight stay. I'm going out in 2 weeks for dinner with my 2 closest school friends, getting my hair cut and blow dried the same morning so it will look good. I've been resisting all the things I think I want that I see online as I know I need money for my dinner out and my haircut!Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Haven't been keeping up with my updates on here, just feel exhausted when I'm working early shifts. Not back at work until next Friday now and we're going on our short break with the kids on Monday, looking forward to a change of scenery and just relaxing a bit.
Need to get things organised for going away but will probably do most of that tomorrow.
I've been a bit lazier with exercise although trying to have a walk most days, haven't managed to get swimming as had the kids off due to strikes then was working. Will try and do some yoga today as did a lot of walking (for me) yesterday and my sore hip is playing up again.
Had my hair cut yesterday and went a bit shorter than I was going to so it's more of a bob now, nice to get the weight off. My dinner out with my friends was nice and only cost £30 for 2 drinks, main meal and dessert plus tip so quite reasonable. Got home late though as we went back to my friends' house and we kept talking. 😂 Will organise another catch up before Christmas.
I hoovered the couches yesterday so today I need to clean the floors downstairs, hoover upstairs and clean the bathrooms. Plus feed the kids constant snacks. 🙄 They're eating microwave popcorn now.
DH had fun with his friend last weekend but was feeling a bit down after he left as he doesn't see him very often due to life in general and the fact that he lives down south. I think he also felt a bit like the poor relative as this friend is older and both him and his wife earn a good wage and go on lots of holidays and do things with their kids that DH would love to do.
I went out with my mum, sister and nieces for lunch earlier in the week as it was my nieces birthday. It was nice to get out with them but our birthday fund has been wiped out as I split paying for my nieces with my mum and gave them birthday money as well. I have 2 nieces and 2 nephews with birthdays within 4 weeks of each other and still have to give the boys some birthday money plus DD's birthday is also coming up as well as FIL's in the next week. 🤦♀️ We do need to put more money away for birthdays but can't afford to right now. We have birthdays every month from January to October!
I think I have DD's birthday sorted apart from some colouring pens, I have got her a barbie, a baby doll, a polly pocket and some books. I have also bought some Christmas presents as boots were doing the french connection shower sets/body spray sets etc half price. I got my nephews and their gfs one each plus 2 lip gloss sets for my older nieces and a body spray set for DH. At least I have the christmas fund to pay for that.
I also bought some toys from the local toy bank's wish list for christmas, they get referrals from local nurseries and health visitors and I try to either buy from their wish list or donate money every year as it breaks my heart to think of poor wee souls with no christmas presents, again the money can come from the christmas fund. I already have cosy socks, grinch socks and a mug for DS's December box but nothing for DD's yet!
I've had to buy a jacket and boots for DS as the weather is starting to get colder and his current coat won't last much longer if he has a growth spurt. DD needed long sleeved tops and could also do with more t-shirts in the next size up as all her age 3-4 ones are too short on her now.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. 😂 Beanie I would love to just forget about him. DH is just sending cards and a bottle of the gut rot whiskey that he drinks. No point putting any thought into it as he doesn't appreciate it.
Oh and most importantly DD has been using the potty and toilet for over a week now! 🎉 🎉 She is still having the odd accident but she has been doing really well. So I also had to buy pants in the size up as all the ones I had for her that she never used are age 3-4 and giving her wedgies 😂 I'll hand those into nursery for spares.
She is still wearing pull ups at night as it's early days but it's such a relief that she's finally using the toilet. We will need to look at adding her to the waiting list for swimming lessons once she's fully trained too so more money to spend. 🤦♀️Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Definitely agree with Beanie on the FIL
present front. Still I suppose it has to be done. Good news about DD 🙂

Thanks SA.
I got a fair amount of housework done yesterday, cleaned the bathrooms, hoovered upstairs and the stairs, stripped and re-made the kids beds and washed their sheets. Also did another washing and put the previous day's dry washing away. I made chicken enchiladas for dinner and the leftovers will do 2 dinners for work at some point so are in the freezer. I didn't clean the floors downstairs so will try and do that today.
I was feeling really tired yesterday though so nothing else done apart from feeding the kids. Today I've stripped our bed including the pillow and mattress protectors so they're in the wash and a load of towels has been washed and dried. Got a load of the kids stuff to go on and have also washed a couple of the blankets we keep in the living room for chilly weather. The kids like to make tents out of them so they end up smelling like small children. 😂
It's sunny and dry for the moment so hopefully I can get the sheets and blankets hung out on the line. I need to sort out the greenhouse as there are still tomatoes, peppers and jalapeños in there. I should pick them before the weather turns and need to bin the cucumber plants as they're not producing anymore.
Have also done 20 mins of yoga to try and stretch my hip out, hopefully it will help. Will need to get the kids clothes all packed for going away then mine later, DH will do his own. DH also did a rough menu plan for our short break and did an online shop that's being delivered tonight as he's working another early shift today. We will pack the food we're taking in the morning along with teabags, jam etc so we shouldn't need to eat out unless it's as a treat.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
