DS is now having problems with his tooth again, so will have to phone the dentist tomorrow to try and get another emergency appointment. The last bit of his damaged baby tooth still hasn't come away and the adult tooth above it has now decided to grow sideways out of the gum. 😱 It's really sharp so must be at a strange angle, not sure how they will fix it. 😟 Worried as it's one of his upper front teeth.
Got 2 washings out and dried today as it was dry and windy until about 4pm. Hoping to get the cats blankets washed and hung out tomorrow. Need to brush, clean and hoover the couches again tomorrow as they are covered in a mixture of cat hair and crumbs and marks from the kids. 😐
DH has been stripping paint from our stair bannister and got a good amount done today, I have done some as well over the last week. Once that's done we can sand and undercoat it ready to redo the gloss again.
Have had a really lazy weekend so need to get myself into gear and get stuff done before I'm back at work on Wednesday. The kids have done nothing but fight with each other all weekend, just hope they're not like this all during the easter holidays. 😭
Managed to get a Mr M magic bag from TGTG, I got 2 nets of small oranges, 2 packs of strawberries, grapes, carrots, a small cauliflower, chinese leaf (I think it's a type of cabbage or lettuce), a tub of mini twiglets and a box of cheerios (the top of the box had been ripped). Not too bad for £3.09, I'll maybe try again mid week to see if the selection is much different. It's worth a go at that price.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. DS has now got a dentist appointment during his lunchtime, had to take it as it was all they had due to being 2 dentists down. It was a cancellation so lucky to get it really, hope they can do something or at least make a plan on how to deal with this rogue tooth! Also hope DS isn't too grumpy at missing his lunch, will obviously feed him before taking him back to school but he doesn't like changes to his routine.
It's a lovely sunny day today although was -1C this morning, the cats blankets are in the wm so will be able to hang them out soon. Will see if there's anything else that can be washed and hung out whilst it's dry, nearly always need to put some kind of wash on.
Haven't done much this morning apart from loading the wm, a few surveys and some phone calls to sort out the dentist and school for DS. DH was up for work at 3am this morning so will be very tired and grouchy later. DD was coughing a lot again last night so was in with us for a while and we never sleep properly when she's in the bed.
Will try to get the couches brushed and hoovered before going to get DS so that at least something will be done apart from washing.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Hope the dentist appointment went okay x1

Thanks Dancing, it turns out the sharp bit of tooth sticking out of DS's gum is actually the root of the baby tooth. Dentist said she could feel the adult tooth underneath and it's in the right place so that's a relief. Hopefully means the baby tooth is moving and will come out properly soon.
DS was not happy about missing his lunch at school and wasn't very co-operative at the dentist. He was clinging onto my leg/trying to leave the room rather than sit on the chair, normally he loves going to the dentist but I think it was a mixture of his routine being interrupted and missing his lunch. I had to sit on the chair and hold him on my knee and he did let the dentist have a look after that.
Had to take DS to the Mr M cafe for his lunch on the way back, cost about £5 as I let him have a Sprite zero with his fish fingers and chips. He loved it and ate it all then cheered right up so it was worth the spend. He was very happy when I dropped him back at school.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Housework yesterday wasn't too bad, I got the couches hoovered and cushions all turned before having to go out to get DS. The cat blankets all dried out on the line and I also washed the indoor door mats and got them out as they were really mucky. Did another washing and hung it overnight on the heated airer (only switched on for a few hours) and washed the towels as well.
Towels are now in the td as it's raining today so no line drying 😭 and another washing is in the wm. I put last night's washing away this morning before taking the kids to school/nursery. Dropped off a parcel as sold another of the kids' old jackets, only £1.75 made but it was second hand when I bought it & the money can go toward something they need (and they always need something replaced clothes wise).
Need to give all the bathroom sinks and toilets a quick wipe and hoover upstairs as the kids had popcorn the other day and have trailed it through the whole house. 🙄
I'm going to make minestrone soup as have half a cabbage to use up plus carrots and celery in the fridge and some leftover passata. I have ready rolled shortcrust pastry in the freezer to use up so will either make a cheese & onion quiche or a chicken & onion pie (leftover chicken in the freezer from mother's day roast that DH made). Also have cream to use up so going to try lemonade scones, just need flour, cream & lemonade so will see how they turn out. Means I can have the quiche or pie in the oven as well as the scones.
Back to work tomorrow for 2 late shifts so need to get organised. Payday on Friday so I can move money to separate pots, pay off the food shopping/kids spending on the CC and see what we have left. The good news is that we have stayed out of the OD for a few pays now and are a lot more aware of what we're spending.
I feel like I don't have a good enough grip on what's going out/what amount we need to have in the joint account though and what is actually spare/extra money. 🤔 It all just sits in the joint account (minus money that I move manually into the savings pots and/or have standing orders set up for).
Wondering if we should move everything that's not needed for a DD or SO into another account so we don't think we're richer than we are. Actually the standing orders are a bit all over the place as well because our pay is 4 weekly so the pay date changes all the time. I might be better to cancel them and just make manual payments on payday. 🤔 Also sometimes our pay comes in after the mortgage is due to come out so that's another thing to be aware of.
Hoping to have a decent amount left over to go towards a parasol for the garden, we need one that attaches to the wall and folds back as it's so windy in our garden that normal parasols are destroyed by the wind over winter and we have nowhere to store one. Hoping this type will last more than one summer!
We're going to use some of DS's savings (that haven't gone into PBs) to buy a wardrobe for his room as his clothes are getting too big for folding in drawers and some are hanging in the spare room. Means I can move his hanging stuff from the spare room, move mine & DH's extra coats/jackets from the wardrobe in DD's room into the spare room wardrobe and move her stuff into her wardrobe (also currently in the spare room wardrobe!). I actually don't know why everyone's stuff is in everyone else's wardrobes. 😂
I'll have to move DS's teepee tent and possibly the storage box with his bedding and towels in it to make room for a wardrobe. The bedding might fit in a drawer once some clothes are hanging up so the storage ottoman could be moved to another room. 🤔Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Pleased you got an answer at the dentist and it should hopefully correct itself as time goes on.
Well done on staying out of the OD that's fantastic. If it's any help, we have one account for bills (so all monthly standing orders, direct debits, money for savings accounts leaves here) and one for other more controllable spends (groceries, petrol, clothes, days out, etc).
It's a bit trickier to sort with the 4 weekly pay but I'm sure you could do it, even if just starting by moving smaller DD's to start with and then moving others across as time goes on?
We don't even keep the debit card for the bills account, just top it up with what's needed for the month and then other than checking scheduled payments have gone out through the course of the month, it doesn't get touched. Took a while for us to get to that position though 🙂
The other account is what we keep a closer eye on, but it definitely makes life easier as this is the real available money we have available to spend until next pay day and we can adjust plans/spending accordingly.
The longer term bonus if you could set it up is that in effect you'd have an "extra" pay each year with getting paid 13 times a year, which then could be used on a longer term goal or debt payment which would be amazing!
Something to consider anyway ☺️ x1 -
Dancing, I think a bills account is the way to go, thanks. Will look at setting another current account up and moving payments over slowly.
I have changed my existing saving pot standing orders to 4 weekly so that they come out on payday. My longer term savings pots are with cha$e so will looking at setting those up too.
We got DS’s money back from the friendly society it had been locked into for 5 years. Overall we lost £30! 😱 So we have reinvested it into PB’s now & topped back up to £1k. I have put it into my name but will give DS the money at 18 as DD will get access to her ISA at 18.
We now have the further amount of £1.1k for each child combined in PB’s in DH’s name to give them when they are 21 (depending on how sensible they are). Hopefully we can add to this over time as well.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Good luck with it. Don't forget to look at bank account switches for the bonuses if you and/or DH have any old current accounts1
-
Good reminder Dancing, we have both done a bank account switch for cash recently and looking into doing another, most of the bonus money can go towards debt which is very helpful.
As today is payday I have moved any saving pot money that isn't currently a SO where it needs to go. Will go through our spending CC with DH and pay off items that come from those pots, mainly cats, kids and house spending.
Also need to have a think about where we want the bills account to be and get it opened. Will look at switching DD's after each one is paid this month so nothing is missed.
I have put one washing away this morning and have one hanging out on the line, I think it's going to rain though so keeping an eye on it.
We bought DS's new wardrobe earlier in the week and DH built it over his last 2 days off so I'm going to start moving clothes into it today. Going to hang his school uniform trousers/shirts/jumpers but leave polo shirts folded in a drawer. Also going to hang his trousers, hoodies, shirts & jumpers. So drawers should have underwear/swimwear and socks, pjs, school polo shirts, t-shirts and long sleeved tops and shorts.
Then will look at putting his spare bedding in one of the bottom drawers and towels in another if there's room. 🤔 Can then move his ottoman storage box to the living room to store blankets etc, I have a bit of dead space between the wall and couch where it should fit. The kids keep chucking toys down there so it's a bit of a pit atm, I need to go through the kids toys in the living room again as there's too much again.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Managed to get all of DS's clothes sorted so what needs to be hanging is in the wardrobe and shuffled the drawers about a bit. Moved his bedding into the bottom drawer and his towels into the drawers in the wardrobe.
The only problem now is that the hanging rail is too high for DS to reach so he can't get his trousers/jumpers etc down when he dresses himself in the morning. I think I'll need to get him a folding stool or something. 😂 He was not amused so we compromised with me getting the trousers and hoodie for the morning down for now.
I moved DD's stuff into her wardrobe and hung some dresses and her nursery jumpers up, there are also some bigger size jackets we were given for her as well in there.
Got DH to try on 2 coats that have been hanging in the wardrobe for years that he barely wore and both are now too small so are going into a charity bag. I also finally admitted defeat on a coat and 2 cord jackets that are too tight but all were at least 15 years old, I think one of the cord jackets was actually over 20 years old. 😂 So all that was moved into the spare room wardrobe was a coat and 2 denim jackets that actually all fit me. I also moved an old work waterproof jacket downstairs to use for gardening and got rid of the old one that had been used previously.
Also moved the storage ottoman from DS's room to the living room and have used it to store blankets. The basket previously used for that is now in DS's room for the small amount of soft toys he has.
DS also has a new nightlight as his old one was dying, this one is a star wars one that has different plates to change the design. He currently has Yoda (or possibly Grogu) on it and is very pleased with it.
Today I have put one washing away, hung one out on the line and have another in the machine. The kids are hyper as now off school for the Easter holidays, DH is taking a couple of days off during the week so we can take them out. Looking at going swimming one day and going on the train down to the coast another. The following week we're taking DS to see the super mario film 🤦♀️ and DD is staying with my mum as she wouldn't have the attention span to last a full film.
I'm already being nagged to death with the kids constantly asking for food or for me to do things for them so don't know how I'm going to manage 2 weeks off without losing the plot. I'm working 3 days within the next week so at least will get a bit of peace then!Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
