@sashybo I do really feel for you as having a debt payment of so much each month is like having an extra mortgage (or it would be for me anyway). I can see why you’d want to overpay.

But I also see Sarah’s point and that with your unusual pay structure having more in savings might help prevent future debt.

It’s a tough one and neither option is wrong. I know Dave Ramsey recommends a “baby emergency fund” of say £1000 before overpaying on debt though.

If you can get rid of the smaller card that would be great  :)

I do think being a month ahead with the bills would be a massive help but can’t see how to do it right now.

I’m thinking if I can get rid of 1-2 debts, possibly the smallest CC & the smaller car loan then I could look at getting a month ahead. 🤔

Although obviously even just those 2 debts are over £5K combined so that’s a big ask.

The smaller car loan is £152 p/m and the minimum payment for the smallest CC is under £20. I think targeting the car loan for overpayments makes sense whilst we see how we do with this new budget and if we’re struggling then look to save to get a month ahead. Any reduction in the balance & the term will be a good thing.

Have had a much less productive day today, just feeling down and tired. Still not completely over the horrible cold which isn’t helping.

DD woke up screaming at half 12 and screamed nearly solidly until half 1 this morning. 😭 Her nose was stuffed up again and nothing I did was acceptable to her. She was trying to punch herself in the nose because she was so angry that she couldn’t breathe properly. 🤦🏻‍♀️

DS seems brighter on day 2 of his antibiotics. He was reminding me he was due his medicine after school. 😂 DD was a demon at pick up, screaming and scratching me again. As soon as she saw DS she was all smiles though.

I’ve done my usual washing, one away, one done & hung up. Also sorted through my toiletry drawers and organised them so I know what I have.

Then tidied 2 kitchen cupboards as they were horrendous with all the kids cups and plastic food boxes spilling out. Now both much easier to see what you need and to find it.

Tomorrow morning I have my annual blood test to check if I have diabetes (thanks gestational diabetes, another gift from DD 🤣).

Also need to collect an order from Mr A with new school shoes as noticed that DS’s school boots had holes in the bottom the other day. I have no idea how long he’s been walking about with them like that. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Am meeting up with my friends on Tuesday for dinner so we’re having Galentines. 🤣 Looking forward to it, the man on the phone seemed a bit confused when I was booking the table and kept checking that it was in fact a booking for 3 adults. 😂

Thanks guys, looking forward to my Galentines dinner. 😂 Will probably be stressed out by then as that's the kids off until next Thursday now and DD has her next lot of booster jags on Tuesday afternoon. 😩 At least she will have Wednesday to recover before going back to nursery.

DD insisted on having her nails painted with her kids nail polish after her bath last night (both finger and toe nails) so DS also wanted his done. 😂 I did it for him as he was so excited about it and very impressed by the red nail varnish but told him it had to come off his fingernails for school as it's not allowed there. I remember one of my nephews being fascinated by nail polish at around the same age, he also liked princess dresses but grew out of it within a year. It's all just dressing up to them at that age.

I finally got round to stitching & ironing the patches onto DD's holey leggings so that's 4 pairs of leggings back in rotation for nursery. Usual washing of one put away and one done and hung up this morning. Blood test was fine, in and out in 10 mins.

My mum is keeping the kids overnight tonight and DH is working late shift so I've had a peaceful night. Spent 2 hours of it cleaning the oven and hob properly rather than a quick wipe - they were manky. 🤢 Then had a lovely hot bath with a glass of chocolate baileys and listened to an episode of a story podcast. Used up one of my (many) sheet masks as well and some bath salts I had forgotten about.

Chilling out with Old Cat atm but will head to bed soon, looking forward to a decent sleep and a small lie in. I can't sleep later than 8am anymore no matter how much I want to, the kids have trained me to wake up early now. 😢 At least I can have a cup of tea and read in bed with the cats though as won't need to get the kids up, dressed and fed.

  • My 7yo son still loves to dress up in the princess dresses from the dress up box, it’s super cute seeing him floating about being Elsa.

I painted his nails once (just with adult nail polish) and would happily do so again if I had any nail polish (decluttered in last year’s purge as I finally accepted I don’t wear it myself!)! Although both kids bite their nails and I don’t want them eating lots of nail polish 😂

Neither of mine are particularly interested in dressing up which I'm surprised about, DD has a bag full of princess dresses inherited from her older cousins and a couple that I had bought before getting the inherited ones. She loves to look at them but will not put them on for some reason. 🤷‍♀️ Same with the princess shoes my friend gave her. DS is quite interested in the shoes but not the dresses. 😂

I have nail polish but only really paint my toenails, I saw kids nail polish that you can soak then peel off so got it for DD's Christmas as she was asking me to paint her nails every time she caught me doing my toenails.

Today we had a peaceful morning in bed with tea and cats, then had poached eggs, potato scone and bacon with a couple of leftover rolls for breakfast. DH was going to go out for croissants but got him to check what we had first and that's what he came up with instead. 👍

I have cleaned the inside of the fridge and thrown out quite a few jars that have been in there for I-don't-know-how-long 😳 things like half jars of sundried tomatoes, garlic paste etc. Really unsure how elderly they were so thought it was safer to chuck them.

Also put one washing away and hung another up as usual. Need to clean the big hoover's filters and give the bathrooms a wipe tomorrow.

We're going to take the kids to the park in the morning then hopefully put the new curtain pole (and recycled curtains) up in the spare room.

DH & I should also really do a meal plan for the coming week and try to use up what we have in the house. Our grocery spend so far from 16th Jan is at £316 (not counting the milkman) and the spending CC statement closes on the 15th Feb. This will be paid out of our next wage, so if we could keep it under £400 that would be great.

Sold another item on v!nted for £7 so dropped that off today when we went to collect the kids. Need to sort through DD's clothes (again!) and see what can be handed into nursery as they're quite short of clothes atm for accidents/mud and art related changes etc.
