Catching up on your diary - Sorry you’ve had such a time with your DS and DD being sick. You sound very organised with Christmas 🙂. Hope your DD has a good week at nursery this week.
Re reading apps, have you come across Reading eggs? It is a monthly subscription one but you can cancel at any point. It really helped my DS3 to understand letters and sounds. Hairy Phonics is another good one.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

A bit more old fashioned and might not be useful for you but we have had brilliant success with the book “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons”. It is a totally different system than they use at school though so you can’t dip in and out so much, you kind of need to do the whole course. But Monkey won’t learn to read in English at school for another 1.5 years (he’s at Gaelic school) so it wasn’t confusing for him.I really liked that we just sat down and did one 15-20 minute lesson a day and didn’t need any extra resources except one book and I did find it both simple and effective, within 6-7 months of starting he can read easy picture books and reading scheme books now (we’ve done 93 lessons so not quite finished the lessons yet but he prefers practising with actual books now).Part time working mum | Married in 2014 | DS born 2015 & DD born 2018

Hi guys, nice to hear from you.
Beanie the jeans are just straight leg ones from marks but they fit well and are comfortable. The length is a bit odd though, I had to buy short although I’m 5”5 which I didn’t think was particularly short. 🤣
Honeysuckle, fingers crossed for DD, she has been asking to go to nursery every morning so it’s not that she doesn’t want to go. I think it’s just a bit of nerves.Reading eggs is the app the school use and they have given all the kids in primary 1 an account. DS is really enjoying it although I think he is still guessing a lot of the time! The teacher has started using it to give them homework to do.We also use Teach your monster to read at home as well. DS likes both apps as they are more like games.
Thanks Bluegreen I will have a look at the book. DS is so impatient, I think he wants to just know how to read without any work. 😂Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. I can second the M&S jeans getting longer in the leg. Although I’m only 5’1 I’ve got long legs for my height and always found the regular length was perfect but the last pair I bought from there I went for short because of the reviews. They are fine so I’m hoping once washed they won’t shrink and be half mast which has happened in the past.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

SA, the jeans length in marks is so odd, I don’t know why they changed it/how tall they think people are!
DD managed 3 full days at nursery this week but is still a bit unsure going in. She did seem to enjoy herself but was very tired by the end of the week.
It’s been very strange having both kids out of the house during the day. I did get a lot of housework done yesterday though, cleaning & tidying that I wouldn’t have the chance to do with DD around.
My mum kept both kids overnight so that DH & I could go out for dinner and have a lie in. The dinner wasn’t great unfortunately and cost us £70 altogether, felt like a waste of money tbh. Nice to spend time with DH & get a full night’s sleep though.

Thanks Beanie, it was nice to have a wee break from the kids. DS fell out with me within 2 hours of coming home from his gran’s and told me to send him back. 🤣
DH has been on a spending spree buying clothes for himself. He doesn’t buy anything for years then buys loads at once. 🤦🏻♀️ Hoping he’s just about finished now as we don’t really have the money.
I have bought some trainers for DD from v!nted for nursery as she doesn’t want to wear her boots all day and was taking them off. Will get the trainers labelled once they arrive and she can leave them at nursery to change into.
Have made a few overpayments on the lower car loan as had survey money through. We managed to pay an extra £170 off last month as DH sold a few bits in eb@y as well. The monthly payment is £152 so that’s a good OP.

DH & I finally managed to paint the kitchen the other day. It looks so much better and brighter but we need to do some touch ups and tidy the edges around the ceiling. Hoping to do that this week.
Both kids have a bad cold and are quite grumpy. DD had a day off from nursery as she was just so tired with it. DS has been complaining of headaches and is coughing and snotty and now I’m catching it as well.Poor DD also seems to have developed a cold sore and keeps touching it all the time. 😱 She doesn’t want cream on and rubs it off but complains it’s sore. She is such hard work just now, she’s happy enough at nursery but behaving all day must be exhausting for her. She’s a screaming mess within 10 mins of leaving nursery and biting and scratching me all the time. 😩 My hands are covered in scratches and I get a bad scratch on my face at least once a week. 😭
I went out for dinner with my friends on Friday night & had a good time. It was ice to get a break and one of my friends has a DD who is 8 months older than my DD and her behaviour sounds the same. Not wanting to hold hands/screaming/scratching and just being difficult in general. 😂
DH & I took the kids to the park yesterday and they had a good time. However DD didn’t want to go at first and had a screaming tantrum. I had to carry her to the car and wrestle her in (without her shoes because she wouldn’t wear any). She is really wild and it’s so exhausting.
The house is a bit of a tip as I’m too tired to clean or tidy properly. Trying my best to keep up with the washing but that’s about it.Have booked a visit for the kids to see Santa in December at a farm which has alpacas. You get to see the baby alpacas as part of the grotto visit, guess which part I’m most excited about. 😂 DD will probably attack Santa or scream so a bit worried about that part. 🤦🏻♀️Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Had a productive cleaning afternoon yesterday while the kids were at nursery & school.
I managed to get the couches brushed & hoovered and turned all the cushions over, stripped & remade all the beds and did 2 loads of washing and put the previous days washing away. Also gave all the bathroom sinks a good clean and gave the toilets a wipe too.
Have got a tablet for DS for Christmas using the money we saved, just need to get a cover and screen protector for it. Have ordered an echo dot for DD’s room as she loves music. Both with discounts for Black Friday so pleased with that.
Also ordered a few bits for other presents - mostly socks & pjs for nieces & nephews and new boots for DD - they are rainbow and glittery so hoping she might wear them more than her other boots.Have been doing well with surveys so have paid £20 off each 0% CC. DH sold some pc parts and made £200 so has paid that off the smaller car loan.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Well done on the extra payments and getting sorted for Christmas, plus getting the painting done. You're doing so well with having such young children and all that brings, I really feel for you with DD being hard work as I'm going through similar with DS2 again
It's a good job that we love them as they certainly test us don't they? X
