Mr SA used to make his own home brew years ago when the kids were little. Think a batch of it may have been a tad strong as I caught him one night weighing himself in the hall. Asked him what he was doing and he said weighing himself in every room to see what needs doing. He’s never lived it down since 🤣

For picking up toys, have you tried the Foo-foo bird? It always worked for me and for others who have used it.  Find a good sized bird feather and explain it's from the Foo-foo bird. He goes around picking up toys that little boys and girls don't put away and gives them to other children who will appreciate them. Then, when he's not there, pick out a favorite toy and disappear it.  Make sure he sees that it's missing later on.

    Hi all,

SA, 🤣 no wonder Mr SA has never lived that one down. DH's home brew is quite nice most of the time and usually not too strong (so far).

Eve, I've never heard of the Foo-foo bird but I think he might need to pay a visit to DS. 🤣 He's obsessed with taking all of his small toys like cars/people/toy food etc out of the stacking toy boxes they're kept in and putting them down the back of the stacked toy boxes. 🤷‍♀️ The boxes are stacked in two lots of three against the wall so I have to unstack them, pull them away from the wall and find all the toys, then he does it again!

Today was thankfully a lot better behaviour wise, although we skipped our walk as couldn't face the stress. We will try again tomorrow with reins on and see how that goes. 😱

It was lovely and sunny so DS was happy to run about in the garden. He played with his sand pit (most of the sand is now on the patio), toy wheelbarrow and was watering the plants with his little watering can which was cute. He also helped DH pick up after pruning the honeysuckle, it was going mad over the top & through the fence into next door's garden.

DH also cut the grass and hung DD's washing out and I hung the nappy wash out later on. I made carrot and lentil soup for lunch with cheese puffs, DS didn't touch the soup, just wanted the cheese puffs.

On the other hand behaviour wise in the garden, DS was pulling leaves off one of my climbing roses and was eyeing up my tiny rhubarb crown to do the same to it. 😱 It only has one leaf! But I did spot new ones appearing, so very happy with that. Not so happy with DS's destructive interest in it though, I managed to chase him away from it 3 times but now worry that I've made it more attractive by chasing him away. 🤔 😭 I was looking online at seeds and plants and one of the websites was selling things to protect seedlings/young plants from "pests and destructive toddlers". 😆 I had to laugh, the person writing it must have one of those destructive toddlers.

I did feel sorry for DS as he could hear the boys over the back from us playing with each other (there are 3 of them) and he kept trying to spy on them through the fence. He kept saying "I hear the boys mummy" 😢 My poor boy, he was desperate to go and join in. Even without the social distancing etc the boys are too big to want to play with an almost 3yo but still it did make me feel sad for him.

We had some fights with nappy changes as he really hates getting his nappy changed now and will kick and struggle like mad. Today I managed to get him to stop by saying what a big boy he was and how I bet he could be the very best boy at getting his nappy changed and the baby was watching etc. Amazingly it worked and he stayed still. Unfortunately it didn't work the next time but maybe another time it will. 🤷‍♀️

Glad it was a much better day for him. I love the "destructive toddler" comments. That really made me laugh. I don't remember DD being destructive, but I am sure she was. I remember her drawing all other my neighbour's wall though in pen. I had to offer to pay for it to be decorated for them.

I love the idea of the bird. Do you think it might work? I know something like that would work with DD and I know exactly which toys I would take as well.

Hopefully they will ease lockdown a little from Monday and he can then visit the park which might help with him getting out and your walks.
I remember my mum and dad took DD to their caravan in Wales once. She was gone about three hours before they were saying they were bringing her back. She was an absolute nightmare for them. She was so headstrong and determined in her own route that nothing would stop her from getting what she wanted. x

    Hi Nicnak,

I wonder if boys are generally more destructive than girls as toddlers? 🤔 Any little boys I know are little whirlwinds and the girls seem a lot more sedate, I'm sure they make up for it in other ways. 😂

To be honest it's probably personality isn't it? My friend's son has always been very placid and a bit "different". His first nursery insisted that he must be autistic and he needed to be tested. My friend knew that he wasn't, he just has an unusual personality and has always been the same. He struggles to make friends but is actually a great kid and just likes to talk about his own interests which are different to the majority of other kids his age. DH gets on great with him!

I might as well have a go with the Foo-foo bird, he'll probably blank me but maybe if his favourite toy pirate ship or bin lorry went missing he might take some notice. 🤔

Our walk today was fine for the most part, DS was actually very good at getting his reins on and walking with them on too. The problem started on the way home at the bottom of the big hill (again). He started doing jelly legs, refusing to walk and screaming because he wanted to go down to the main road to watch the cars (there's a path that he knows goes straight there and he starts acting up every time we walk past it). DH & I had to take turns carrying him up the hill again. 🥵 He's very heavy and it's a steep hill which is ten times worse when carrying a struggling toddler.

We had more screaming in the house because he wanted to watch bin lorries on youtube. 🙄 I let him watch it for a while then DH wanted to watch a couple of video game trailers. DS was raging and screeched the whole time. Afterwards we put on monster truck racing as thought he'd enjoy it. Big fat nope, he wanted to watch bin lorries. 🤷‍♀️ We left the monster trucks on anyway and he kind of enjoyed it once he decided we weren't watching so his dramatics had no audience. 🤨

DD slept through the night last night. 😮 Both DH & I kept waking up to check on her though so we didn't really catch up on sleep. 😂

Tonight it took 2 hours to get her to go to sleep. 😢 She's teething and was just inconsolable, gave her medicine, teething powder, teething gel and nothing worked. She eventually fell asleep because she was exhausted, poor wee sausage. DH had to take over from me after putting DS to bed and then we tag teamed a couple more times because the screaming was just unreal. It's so unlike her, normally she's the easiest baby ever and just has her bottle and goes to sleep.

Tomorrow I need to get out into the garden, I have some runner bean seedlings to pot on and some potato shoots to cover over. I now have 5 padron chilli seedlings, so will have to pot them as well.

DH is back to work tomorrow but he doesn't start until 5pm. Unfortunately that means I'm doing bedtime on my own for the first time in absolutely ages. Just hope DD isn't feeling so bad tomorrow night because I usually get her down first then deal with DS. Hopefully it will be fine.

Hopefully she'll be fine again. Teething is just not good is it?
I think it is personality like you said. DD was stubborn and strong minded as a baby and still has some of those traits now. She knows what she likes and that is it. She will rarely wear shorts, and dresses herself daily in what she wants.

Maybe the fofo bird will work. Who knows with children!

Well DD was a wee angel at bedtime tonight and went to sleep no problem. DS, on the other hand decided to play up instead.

When I came downstairs after putting DD to bed DS had fallen asleep on the couch, so I got him changed downstairs as I knew he'd be screeching and protesting the whole time. We watched a 20 minute kid's programme and then I had to carry him upstairs as he didn't want to go. We had a story and a cuddle, then a chat but when I put him into bed he just randomly started crying, so I had to go back in and sit with him. He went back into bed again after 5 mins and I went downstairs to feed the cats and wash the dishes. I still had to get the washing in and water the garden as well but then heard him wailing. So back upstairs to sit with him again. He got back into his bed after a cuddle when I promised to put his glitter lamp on and then I could hear him carrying on for about 20 minutes before finally falling asleep.

So it was quite a while before I finally got to sit down tonight as had the nappy wash to hang up as well.

I managed to get my repotting done in the garden this morning - moved some runner bean, padron chilli and courgette seedlings into bigger pots and covered over the leaves appearing in the potato bags.

My padron chillies are all in the heated propagator now and the runner beans are in the greenhouse with the cucumbers, courgettes, linaria, lobelia and sweet peas. I really need to put the sweet peas out into the front garden. I will probably have to bring all my seedlings in on Sunday night as there is frost forecast. ☹️ I hope my rhubarb crown will be ok.

Got £50 through from one of my survey sites so will pay that off one of the debts.
