I just wanted to say I absolutely love your diary. You write so well and it brings back such memories of when my children were small. So much was omitted from the mother/child handbook!

Hi Beanie, yes DS's shoes are actually really cute, I bought a bigger size in green as well because I wasn't sure what size would fit and they were only something like £2.50 a pair. 😊 He lived in his spiderman crocs last summer and they were great for being out in the garden so I wanted something similar.

Hi piquant, thanks for visiting. 👋 That's so kind, I'm glad you've enjoyed my diary. 😀 Yes with the kids thing, there's so much pressure to pretend that everything is perfect and you love EVERY second of being a mum with wee kids when it's just not true. It's frustrating and tiring and boring but it's also lovely and funny at times too. I love being with the kids (most of the time) and it makes life easier as no running about but I'm looking forward to going back to work too!

DS lasted the night in a cloth nappy without leaking. Hurray! I used a hemp booster with a bamboo insert and made sure he didn't drink a gallon of juice before bed. He woke up crying around half 6 this morning, DH went in to see him and came back with him and put him into our bed. 😱 I was up feeding DD and was like noooo. DS just carries on, won't go back to sleep and has a great time using us as a bouncy castle when DH brings him into our bed. 😭 I put up with it for about 45 mins before putting him back into his own bed - he was fine and just went back to sleep. 🤷‍♀️

I've had another delivery of 5 reusable nappies today - these ones are a cheaper brand (around half the price of the previous ones I've bought) which I could tell as soon as I compared them to the dearer ones, they are thinner and you only get one insert with them rather than two. I think they'll be fine for around the house but will only prewash one for now and see how it fits/performs. If I don't like it I'll send the others back for a refund.

I think I'll try to start toilet training DS next week, if he's really not getting it we can stop and try again in a month or two. Feeling a bit nervous about it but it would be great to get it done.

I'll need to get the pc set up to do a skype call with my mum in the next few days. I would normally be going to see her today with the kids as she's off work. She'll be missing them a lot. ☹️

Your DS sounds like my DGS, he's constantly on the move and doesn't settle for 5 minutes. His shoes sound fab. I'm going to have to do a Skype call with the GKs as I won't be seeing them for a while.

Well we had a go at putting DS in pants today. 😱 It was awful, he kept just peeing himself and sitting in it or splashing in the puddle on the floor. He really wasn't bothered and was screaming and crying when we took him to the toilet. Even bribery didn't work, he would wait until he was off the toilet and pee 5 minutes later on the couch/carpet/kitchen floor. He refused to tell us if he needed to pee so I'm guessing he doesn't understand yet. I've given up for now and he's back in a pull up.

I guess we'll try again in a month or so and see if there's any difference. He just doesn't seem to want out of nappies or care about trying to use the toilet. 🤷‍♀️ He was quite a late walker too so maybe he's just a bit slower at these things.

It was really starting to stress me out as nearly the whole couch has needed to be cleaned where he's wet himself and not bothered moving/telling us and there was a whole pile of his clothes to wash as well. He also had a poo in his pants when we were in the garden and didn't even crack a light. 🤢

DH has dug the bed I want to put the rhubarb in over a bit and put the gypsum through it, so hopefully that will help to break the clay down. I think the rhubarb crown will be delivered next week, so that will give it some time to get to work.

A bit of a depressing day today with all the toilet accidents. DH is away to work now so another solo bedtime for me, just hope DS is in a more cooperative mood by then.

Please please dont worry about the toilet training.
Honestly it will just happen & you will wonder why you were worried.
    Hope bedtime goes well  xx

Beanielou is right...👍.  I found my boys later to toilet train than the girls but when they are ready it falls into place quite quickly.

Thanks Beanie & Honeysuckle, I guess he just isn't ready as it was really stressful! I'll just keep talking to him about using the toilet but not force him to do anything. He nearly always says no when I ask him to do anything though!

I think I've been comparing him to other kids who are a bit older and are all toilet trained and I felt like maybe he should be as well.

My friend's DS is only 10 weeks older than my DS and he seems much more advanced - he's toilet trained and speaks really clearly in proper sentences whereas my DS doesn't do either. 🤷‍♀️

I know they're all different but sometimes you can't help but compare and wonder if you're doing something wrong. My friend's DS also builds really complicated towers with duplo and building blocks and stuff, my DS just wrecks everything and is totally not interested in blocks or building things. 🤣 He isn't very interested in drawing or colouring or anything "educational" except books. He just likes cars and diggers and is obsessed with the tv and watching bin lorry videos on youtube. 👀 🤣

Yes I'm an over thinker and a worrier, he's not even 3 yet. 😳😔 Any time I ask him what colour something is he always answers very confidently "blue". 🤣 He does recognise some random shapes like triangles, hearts and stars but that's about it. 😃

Bedtime wasn't too bad - DS washed the bathroom floor with the amount of bath water he splashed everywhere though. 😱 He went to bed really well though and was happy enough so I think he's forgiven us for the aborted toilet training. He was fine with wearing a cloth nappy to bed as well, so obviously he's not bothered about it.

DD went to bed quite early as she had rubbish naps during the day so she was exhausted. She's already woken once for a bottle so I'm hoping she'll sleep a good while now.

I really should head to bed shortly, I just can't seem to catch up on my sleep and feel permanently tired. 😑

It's so hard not to compare to other kids, but he will do it. You won't be changing his nappies when he's sixteen. It will be easier when the summer comes, potty in the garden, the accidents don't matter and more importantly, you won't be stressed.

You're writing your diary quite late in the evening, nearly the morning! I look forward to reading it immensely, but maybe you should just relax and go to bed  :) and forget about entertaining me!
  • We had the same issues/thoughts with DS1, kept trying from the age of 2 then getting frustrated on both sides so then we gave up and relaxed for a while. Once he turned 3 he decided himself that he was a big boy and should use the potty, he then threw us by not wanting a pull up at night either 😬 however, within a week he was largely dry day & night barring the odd accident. Your DS will get there in his own time.
It's true that children all develop at their own pace, my niece is 5 months younger than DS1 & has always been more advanced than him but he's doing great too, just at his own pace and that's okay.
Hope you got some sleep x
