Hi SA and Beanie. :hello:
Yes SA, if the outlaws lived nearby I'd probably have a restraining order on them to stop me strangling them.
I think DS's running away is partly an excitement thing as we don't get out of the house as much just now due to the weather, DD being born and me being very tired and still learning how to cope with two kids. It could also be an attention thing though as any attention is good attention to kids and he thinks it's a great game to run away from me. He's generally very loving towards DD which is good but still sometimes tries to push her off my knee so that he can climb on for a cuddle.
Beanie, we're moving all of DH's computers/printers/general tech (he has a lot) and hobby equipment (home brew) into the new room. This frees up a room upstairs that DS can move into and we can use DS's current room for DD when she's ready to go into the big cot.
We'll probably need to get rid of the guest/spare room in a few years as the nursery room won't be big enough for a child but is fine for a baby/toddler who is only sleeping in there, not playing etc. I'm thinking DS will then move into the big ex-guest room and DD will move into the other room but we'll see.
I'll not be sorry to see the back of the guest room as it then eliminates any possibility of the nightmare outlaws staying with us. :j MIL will probably try to sleep on the couch instead though. :rotfl:
Finally got round to cleaning out the detergent drawer of the washing machine today. It was disgusting. But looks so much better now. Also did a couple of washings, stripped our bed, put clean sheets on and hoovered upstairs and down.
DH was working so we're having a late dinner after putting the kids to bed. Having pan fried sea bass with hasselback potatoes and carrots. Last night we had haggis and chicken balmoral pies from the butchers, they were so nice. :TSuccess is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. outlaws sound very annoying, and i read it and thought "oh i hope she hasnt got long "left" of them" - yep im going to hell for thinking that!!
re the cars tyres, i hope your not replacing just 3?
always replace in pairs / axles at a time or a set at a time, is the best practice, safer too, eg if car is FWD replace 2 fronts, if RWD, then back ones of course in pairs.0 -
:rotfl: Db, I would be lying if I said I hadn't had the same thought at times myself.
Not helped by both MIL & FIL going on about when they die (separately and always to DH not me). MIL likes to moan about how she won't see the children grow up (she's only 73 and in very good health) and FIL likes to tell DH how much money they're going to leave him when they die.
I keep saying to DH not to rely on getting anything as they could easily live another 20/30 years and any money they have plus the house could be used for their care, especially as we live so far away so won't be able to help them much.
I forgot that about tyres, will say to DH.
No real news atm, bought a winter coat in age 3-4 for DS in the sales & an age 1 size for DD. Have also bought them next year's Christmas jumpers along with hats & scarves. Got a lighter jacket for DD to do her during spring as (hopefully) we won't need her snowsuit then.
The council STILL haven't given us a new general waste bin, told us to leave the black bags out and they would be collected. The bin men then just walked past them.
DH called to complain and they told him it "wasn't guaranteed" that the bin men would take the bags (Although we were told they would be taken) and was up to them if they took them or not. DH said they'd better get someone back to take them and they were trying to say there was nothing they could do.
I think we're going to have to raise it as a complaint now. We have 3 weeks worth of black bags (mostly nappies and cat litter) sitting on our driveway. It's not our fault that the bin men didn't secure our bin properly so it fell into the lorry and got crushed. And now they're refusing to take the bags and we still haven't got a new bin. So angry - we pay £270 p/m council tax and they can't even sort a simple thing like this out. :mad:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Oh forgot to mention that the garage conversion came in pretty much on budget, we were only around £500 over which is great. :j
DH just needs to sort a few things out, do a bit more painting and then we can start moving things in there. :j DH has time off work soon so we can really get stuck in. Might get my mum to watch the kids one day when we're ready to get stuff in there so that we can get as much done as possible in one go.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. I know Beanie, it's horrendous, our house was valued just within a higher band (by about £2K). And it will probably go up in April. As middle earners we really get shafted on tax and then our council tax is ridiculous just to add to the joy.
The clowns at the circus which is our council continue to perform true to their nature. DH asked to raise a complaint as we've been waiting 3 weeks for a new bin and now the bin men won't take the bags of rubbish away either. The reply he got was oh we can't raise it as a complaint because our timescale for getting a new bin out is 21 days from the time the new bin is authorised.
Our bin got crushed by the bin lorry on the 8th & we phoned within an hour of it happening - apparently this wasn't confirmed (so the a**hole bin men didn't report crushing our bin) or authorised (i.e. no one bothered to check) until the 21st, so they're counting the 21 days from then.:mad::mad::mad: Actual steam coming from my ears at this rate.:mad::mad::mad: Why did it take 21 days to authorise a new bin??!!! They are beyond incompetent.:mad:
Also apparently we have to wait 5 days from the bin men refusing to take our bin bags away for them to come back and refuse to do it again before we can complain about that either. What an absolute joke! So we have a lovely unsanitary and unsightly pile of bin bags sitting on our driveway for at least 5 days - probably more as they'll no doubt refuse to take them again. God forbid a bin man having to pick up a bin bag.
I am actually raging. The icing on the cake is their refusal to take it as a complaint, what a stupid system!Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Hi Sashybo
Just catching up, what a lot you've had going on. Well done on surviving the parents-in-law again, they really do seem to have some strange approaches to life
Poor you with DS running off too, my oldest went through that phase too when I used to take him out when DS2 was young - I ended up buying another pram so that I could lock him in it just so we could go out, was a really stressful time but, as with everything with the little ones, it does pass & now he's absolutely awesome going out and about.
Great news on the conversion being done and only slightly over budget :T
Boo to the issue with your rubbish  hope it gets resolved soon. I agree with Beanie that your council tax is ridiculously high, definitely not getting your money's worth there!
Have a great weekend x0 -
I wonder if you live in the same council area as me. From your description it certainly sounds like it. A couple of years ago when they changed the recycling bins it was utter chaos here and no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get any sense out of them. I would be raging too if my bin had been squashed and not replaced! Your DS sounds so like my grandson who is now 4 and still such a handful for his mum. He is well behaved for everyone else and yet when my daughter appears to pick him he plays up something awful and gives her a really hard time. She has a one year old daughter too who is at the into everything stage just now so she gets quite stressed at times. I keep telling her to try and enjoy this times because they will grow up so fast but I'm not sure if that is helpful! Hope you get the bin issue sorted soon.1

Hi Dancing, yes the council tax is a joke and that's not even taking into account the state of the roads and all of the cuts they've been making. Somehow things are getting worse despite them raising the council tax every year.
But we actually (finally) got our new bin this afternoon. Nearly fainted with shock when I looked out of the window and it had been ditched on the driveway next to the big pile of bin bags. I went out and put as many of the bags as I could into the bin, wonder if they'll actually turn up to empty it now. Still have 3 or 4 bags sitting next to it, bet they won't take them if they do turn up.
My twin nieces were over this afternoon as my sister was working and they helped me look after DS and DD. We made brownies and tuna pasta bake for dinner as well. It was nice to see them and I think they enjoyed themselves.
DS is being extra clingy and tearful all the time just now and throwing screaming fits over silly things. I'm so tired of his behaviour, it's hard work and not like him.DD has been great and usually only wakes once or twice a night but it's still broken sleep which doesn't help.
I also can't really go anywhere on my own with the 2 of them because of DS either running away constantly or throwing screaming tantrums that mean I literally have to pick him up kicking and screaming and carry him back to the car which I can't do when I have the pram with DD in it as well.
I think I'll just run away until DS starts behaving again. :rotfl: I think it's partly boredom on his part but I just feel wiped out and don't know where to start with him. He doesn't want to play with blocks or duplo or with me at all really and he's not very interested in drawing or colouring yet either. I tried playing simple games on the iPad with him and he enjoyed it for a bit but again that ended in a crying fit when I did something he didn't like.
The only place I can let him run that he can't escape from is our back garden, suppose that would be better than nothing. It's just not very appealing in this constant rain and with having clay soil it's like a muddy bog out there.
I've bought a game of snap to play with him, he might like that as he enjoys his books and flash cards. Will try it tomorrow. When he gets bored he just goes "Where's the 'mote (remote for the tv) mummy?"Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
