MIL went home this afternoon. :j DS enjoyed seeing her but I'm glad to have my house back to myself.
DH said she had the usual feeling sorry for herself talk to him about probably not being around to see DS growing up etc. Ok she's 72 but she's perfectly healthy! Thank god she doesn't say any of this to me, I think she knows that my reaction would just be to roll my eyes.:rotfl:
She also restrained herself from quizzing me endlessly about silly things but did go on a bit about nursery. She was a bit judge-y when I said he would probably start next August when he gets his free hours.
To be honest I think she would judge me either way, she likes to go on about how she basically did everything for DH when he was younger because FIL worked so hard, blah blah. So a nice double dig about how I "make" DH do more or less his fair share of childcare/housework even though I'm job share and he's full time.
Although she did say to DH that she and FIL will stay at a hotel when they come up to visit after the new baby is born rather than with us. (Good cos they weren't being invited to stay with us!). Without any prompting or us having to have the conversation telling them NO! I think she'd been body-snatched when having that conversation with DH. :rotfl:
MIL and I took DS to a coffee shop for lunch before she got the bus to the airport and he was really well behaved. He sat on a big chair instead of in a high chair and was generally really good.
We were a bit late leaving the house as MIL wouldn't make a decision whether to go out or not. She kept just saying it was up to me.

I have finally (mostly) packed a hospital bag for the baby, am going to try and do most of mine this weekend. I have packed 4 short-sleeved vests, 2 long sleeved, 4 sleep suits, 4 cardigans, a couple of hats, scratch mitts and some bibs. Cotton wool, nappy bags and nappies, might stick some vaseline in as well. Will take a shawl as well for leaving the hospital, unsure if I'll need a wee jacket or not for the baby too.
The newborn and 0-3 month clothes are so tiny compared to DS's clothes now and the nappies are super tiny.I don't think I remember how to look after a new baby. Not looking forward to leaving DS to go and have this baby, just hope it's not another 48 hour labour.
Also got DH to help me put the newborn wedge back into the small car seat, I had the wrong wedge for the wrong car seat, no wonder I couldn't figure out how to put it back in. :rotfl: Luckily I found the right wedge stored in the Moses basket.
So anyway now the car seat is ready to go into the car and the base is sitting out too. Still wondering if I need a new mattress for the Moses basket, probably will buy one for peace of mind, it won't cost much. Pretty sure they're all a standard size?
Going out to do a bit of shopping with DS and my mum today. Wish me luck, hopefully DS won't be too grumpy as long as he can run about on his reigns.
Went to wrap up some birthday presents yesterday (niece, nephew and friend's DD) and discovered we had no sellotape in the whole house. Why DH thought I would magically know this I'm not sure. Just put it on the shopping list!
Payday today so hopefully we'll be able to pay a bit extra off DH's big loan.
Better go as DS is harassing me for a story, another mog the cat book, he loves them.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -

Hi Beanie, yes we have a few Mog the cat books and DS loves them. It doesn't hurt that our big cat looks a bit like Mog.
DS had a few lying on the floor tantrums in the shops yesterday because he just hates shopping. :rotfl: Just left him to it and kept browsing, most ladies shopping just laughed and stepped over him saying "Oh I've got one like that at home" :rotfl: Quite a few grumpy men growling at us though.
Was at least out with my mum so could share the stress. :rotfl: We bribed him with a new tiger baseball cap for a while, he enjoyed admiring himself in the mirror.Plus it was only £1.50 in the sale.
We were all exhausted by the time we got home! I managed to swap my chipped utensil jar at tk maxx, pure luck that they had one the same so just did a straight exchange. :T But forgot to collect the parcel I had went to get from Mr A, sent DH to get it later instead.
DH has bogged off to visit his friend for 4 (!!) days (again!) and he honestly thinks he's hard done by and "never gets out". Plus to compound my annoyance he decided he *had* to leave by 8am this morning and would just get DS up at 7am because "That's when he wakes up anyway". Err no he doesn't, he only wakes up at that time if he hears DH moving about in the morning to go to work and will usually go back to sleep.
So anyway DH got DS up and dressed by about half 7 when I was still asleep so got woken up then by DS climbing up on the bed with me. DH then didn't bother giving DS his breakfast or waiting for me to get up but just left! So annoyed with him and his selfish streak, he honestly doesn't think he's done anything wrong. One day I'm going to give him a taste of his own medicine and see how he likes it. When was the last time I bogged off for 4 days on my own & left him with DS? Oh that's right, never.
I'm so tired already. Will need to try and get DS to have an early nap today as we have my niece's 3rd birthday party this afternoon. He'll be super grumpy by that time unless I can get him to nap and so will I.
Still need to wrap birthday presents as well.

I know Beanie, I think I've let him away with it for too long. He's too used to just deciding he'll go and stay with this particular friend, who is single and doesn't have any family responsibilities.
DH also uses the excuse that this friend is disabled and doesn't have many friends. This is true but he doesn't need to go and visit every few months for 4 days at a time! DH likes to make out I'm just being a horrible person if I say he shouldn't go but his friend isn't his responsibility, his actual child is.
I didn't mind so much when it was just us but now we have DS and will soon have another baby it's just not going to work. Will be fun trying to get that through his head though as he thinks he "deserves" it because he's "stressed and tired" from work. Yeah cos having a toddler and being very pregnant is a walk in the park. :rotfl: I really wish he could experience pregnancy!
I just get fed up with his attitude sometimes, last night I was told I was a nag, a moan, he hates me etc. Then 10 mins later he was trying to sook in with me again. It's all because he's not getting the attention he thinks he should be getting from me and he's always worse after his mum has been visiting for some reason.
He is generally good with helping with housework (after some reminders) and does a lot of the cooking but seems to want applause after doing it. :rotfl: I blame his mother because she told me the other day that he'd cut the grass in our back and front garden and then looked at me expectantly as though I was meant to applaud and gush my thanks to him.:rotfl: I just said "Oh right". :rotfl:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Ok. Just that it comes across to an outsider as quite selfish.
Especially on a bank holiday weekend:o.

No need to apologise Beanie - I absolutely agree that it is selfish of him! He doesn't see it though and maybe I've not been forceful enough when I try to explain it to him.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. & see it for himself.
If my DS did that to his partner I would be having a wee word.
But that’s just me.

Had a nice time at my brother's house for my niece's 3rd birthday. It was only a small family thing so only 3 kids there including my DS. He enjoyed playing with his cousins and had a shot on their big slide and trampoline. He was quite funny on the trampoline as doesn't really know how to jump yet.
DS was exhausted when we got home so had some facetime on my phone with his daddy and a bit to eat then straight to bed. He slept really well so I got a decent rest thankfully.
Very sunny here today, not planning on doing much. Got a washing of DS's stuff in the machine so will hang it out and maybe do a bit of hoovering later or clean the bathrooms but will see how I feel.
Have done the online food shop to get delivered on Tuesday afternoon so that's one less thing to worry about. Will probably need to go out for some pull up nappies before then as running a bit low on those but have normal nappies so won't run out or anything.
Got another midwife appointment tomorrow morning, will just have to take DS with me as my mum is working night shift tonight so will be sleeping tomorrow.
Have updated the loan totals in my signature and we are (just) under £16k. :T DH's car loan is sitting at just over £10k and mine is about £5.8k.
OPs haven't been great to the car loans as we are saving a bit more to the house fund just now for the potential garage conversion. The more we can save, the less we will hopefully need to borrow to get it done. Trying for £50 OP p/m to DH's bigger loan (as slightly higher interest as well) and £100 p/m to the house fund. We put £30 p/m into the house account as standard every month anyway for things we need to buy for the house/garden so the extra £100 is a good boost.
I still haven't heard anything from work/HR about my maternity pay and what I can expect as my average income for the first 13 weeks.
This is a bit concerning as my mat leave is meant to start on 30th September. Last time I got a letter around 3 months before DS was due.
Going to email my manager next week to ask what's going on, I wouldn't be surprised if they've not sent the relevant paperwork over or something. The manager who usually deals with maternity stuff in the office is on annual leave just now though so they probably won't know and I'll have to contact HR/payroll anyway.
DH hasn't heard about his paternity leave application either. There's been (another) re-shuffle in HR and payroll so I think everything is a bigger mess than usual. They keep changing who these things are sent to so half the time you don't know if the right person has received the forms!:mad:Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
