Buying our first flat and our current house all went smoothly and I'm sure yours will too. You are in a good position as you do not have anything to sell. Hope the survey all goes ok.

The house that fell through for us was a nightmare from the start. We were moving several hundred miles to live near my f-in-law who had been diagnosed with cancer. The house was empty but after we made the offer we found out that the joint owners were in the process of a messy divorce and it took months to get the ex-wife to agree to sign the papers. By the time she did house prices in the area we were buying in had shot up but the husband waited until the day of exchange to decide to take it off the market and do it up himself. We were due to complete and move 2 days later and had both given notice to our employers. We lost our buyers were not willing to wait for us to find something else.

Anyway the circumstances were totally different so I'm sure that will not happen in your case, please try not to worry, just wanted to say I would always take out the solicitor fee insurance, it saved us hundreds.

    Goooood morning everybody :hello:

No real news from me this weekend. I'm living in constant fear that my seller changes her mind but that hasn't happened (yet!) so I'm trying to relax and not think about it as much as I can. In the meantime, I'm cooking up a colour scheme for the bedroom. Something to do with blues, purples and greys, but I think it'll be very tricky to pull off well. I think I need to drop the purple. But really I'm just thinking about it to occupy my mind.

Work is still very stressful - this project just isn't completing or dying - to the point that we're all getting quite bored of it! Possibly a big milestone next week - we'll see. If that happens, it'll definitely lighten off.

Otherwise, nothing much to report. The weather looks a bit rubbish today so I'm not going to spend much of the day outside. I need some new jeans as mine are now tearing in that really annoying inside-thigh place (booooo) so I'm going to pay a visit to the really big Tesco in town as they have a big clothes section. I'm really trying not to spend any money but also not look like a complete pauper at the same time :o I may walk into town tomorrow if the weather's not too bad but do my best not to make any unplanned purchases...

SYA I followed your advice and took out that insurance policy. £50 job done. I'm so, so nervous but at least this will cover something if my purchase fails for one of the stipulated reasons. I discussed it with a friend and had mentioned that something like 1/4 to 1/3 of house purchases falls through, and he said "well do you think you're definitely not in the 1/3" or something like that, which was an interesting way to look at it, so I got it :) Just in time too - apparently you need to get it within a week of having your offer accepted, or something similar.

Right, I need to shower and get moving if I'm not going to spend this entire weekend on my backside...

Good news on the insurance, worth every penny of £50 for some peace of mind. Good luck on finding some jeans, it is really annoying when they go at the seam isn't it.
    Have a great weekend !

Hello weather is glorious here. I think you will be one of the lucky ones Bobobski - you deserve it.

I have same problem with jeans and used to buy new pairs. But I know you can buy a patch from the local sewing shop made of denim - patches are sold in packets and cost a couple of pounds and sew over the worn bit of the jeans from the inside (if you love the old pair). I did that a few months ago and they look great.

    Money saved. Kerrching.

Hi SYA, so sorry for the lack of update recently - things are crazy over here! I was at a hen do all weekend, and I can't even remember what I was doing last weekend. I'm moving out in 2 1/2 weeks into a spare room so I've had to organise storage for my furniture, rent a van, rope friends in, pack what seems to be an endless amount of "stuff" etc... And my big project is still going on at work so I'm still in the office between 9 and 8 every day.

I'll do a proper update soon, I promise! But a brief summary of house stuff: one bank mucked us around for weeks, so we are going with another one (which lost us 3 weeks) but the new one did the valuation yesterday and I'm waiting to hear whether the flat passed or failed!

Hope all's well with you - I'll catch up on your diary soon x

Glad you have had a hen-do to keep you occupied as this house moving malarkey is v stressful. Well done on everything so far. I look forward to the party we are going to have on this thread when it all falls into place.:j:money::beer:

I am glad things are moving along albeit after a hiccup with the bank. Lets hope things run smoothly from now for you and the valuation is what you were hoping for.

    Hi everyone :hello:

A brief update today as I have so much to do! Valuation came back at £0 due to potential structural problems - boooo! We're trying to sort it out so, at this point, the purchase isn't off. I really hope we can sort it out as I've been keeping an eye on the market and there is nothing else I'd want to buy at this level. I can always wait of course, but I'm so ready to buy :( And I do really like the place I'm currently trying to buy.

Work continues to be a nightmare sadly so that limits the time I can focus on my house move and house purchase. I move in two weeks and my flat is a complete tip, full of boxes and "stuff" and also filthy as it's too hard to clean with so much stuff lying around. I need to do yet another trip to Homebase to get some boxes - I can't believe how much stuff I have...

I'd better crack on but I'll try to check in more regularly. Sorry I haven't caught up with everyone else but I hope you're all good! x
