You put me to shame! I have wardrobes and drawers full of clothes I haven't worn for over a year now!tighteningthebelt wrote: »Hi lovely people.
I set myself this challenge for 2016, after reading about wartime clothes rationing, and managed it! Yeah! (Except for buying a pair of black trousers for a funeral, totally justified). So I thought I'd post a little review for encouragement purposes. Hope that's ok.
I didn't have many clothes to start off with, and now they have all had a stitch or two somewhere. (totals... 3 pair trousers, plus the funeral ones, 3 tops, 3 vest tops, 2 hoodies and a cardigan, 4 bras, 8 knickers, 8 pairs socks. 1 pair shoes. 1 pair trainers. 1 pair wellies. 1 pair slippers. 2 pair pyjamas. 1 pair bedsocks, yum. 1 coat. 5 scarves. 1 pair gloves. 2 handbags. And a good apron - that plays a crucial role in keeping the other clothes ok! ).
Come January 2017 I was really desperate for new knickers. Really, I had got to thinking about them far too often than is normal, several times some days. I dashed out to buy a whole set as soon as i could (then chucked the old ones). Then I really couldn't be bothered organising myself to get anything else, strange isn't it! So 6 weeks into 2017 I'm still in the same stuff. And it's fine! It's like I just got off the clothes bus, hardly think about it at all. (Not even sewing any, or knitting, not charity shops) Nobody else seems to even notice anymore, or they've given up saying.
I've enjoyed it tbh, hope you all have fun too. X

After doing a big clothing clear out after doing Kon Mari on my home, I realised even though I had got rid of about 75% of my clothes, I still had far more than I actually needed so decided to do a no-buy clothes year for 2017. I have got to mid Feb without buying anything and I feel so good. I am saving money and not getting anything I don't need. It has also led me to question why I bought so much stuff that I didn't even wear more than a couple of times and I've realised how much I bought because it was a 'bargain' or I thought I'd look like the model in the advert! It's brilliant knowing everything that's in my wardrobe and that it fits and suits me so saves me so much time in the mornings or when I'm going out and about!0

Charity shops can sometime (well, let's be truthful, oftentimes) be my downfall in respect of clothes.
I can easily go from one year's end to another without shopping for new new clothes (detest the process) but am often in chazzers, where so much good stuff is so very cheap and it seems crazy not to buy something really good when I can for under £1.
Trouble is, how many clothes does a person need? I have a fairly unexciting life; office job, very casual social life, gardening duds, the occasional wedding or funeral or 'do' (can go more than a year between those). I don't need a lot of options in my simple life and have always had the tendancy to wear the same few pet items all the time.
I'm in process of having a good hard think about some of my clothes which are perfectly good, came to me for almost nothing, and which I do.not.wear.
I need to have a full and frank conversation with wardrobe about if I will ever wear these items or whether I'm just kidding myself. And putting up with having them in my way in the meantime.
Memo to self: useful isn't the same as used.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I have a uniform of dark jeans (winter) navy and beige chinos (summer) white tee shirt and v neck jumper plus comfortable shoes. I wear this day in day out and I'm perfectly happy in it. I have put together a few outfits for when I need to dress up a bit and I feel equally comfortable in them knowing that I am appropriately dressed. I literally wear my favourites until they are fraying. Suits me but other people would get very bored with it.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Have a moc for £2 for M&S and 20% off was going to buy new socks and slippers, but a quick sort out of sock drawer reveals that I have plenty off new socks and I can make do with slippers so MOC lives to fight another day.:j0

I have some M&S MOCs that expire at the end of next month, receive them every year but there are always strings, i.e. not to be used in conjunction with another promotion.Have a moc for £2 for M&S and 20% off was going to buy new socks and slippers, but a quick sort out of sock drawer reveals that I have plenty off new socks and I can make do with slippers so MOC lives to fight another day.:j
I save 100% by not buying at all, or 80% with the MOC
