Not buying any clothes 2017

Hello, wondered if anyone would care to join me on a challenge to not buy any new or second hand clothes for 2017? My reasons for doing this aren't just for saving money but also to cut down my consumption and to be happy with what I have.

I'm in as I seem to have far too many clothes in the cupboards at the moment and often I seem to wear three or four outfits and rarely anything else so I know I don't need any thing at all clothes wise this year (unless I lose a couple of stone ):):):)

hi, i havent bought any new clothes for around 6 years! only socks, under wear and bras are bought new and then from a supermarket with coupons saved up!! i go to as many jumble sales as i possibly can and as a rule of thumb i have a one in one out policy, therefore i dont get too many items and never wear them. i buy also from ebay, i am a sucker for any ugg foot wear and cashmere clothing, but only buy used!! xx
  • 6 years wow that's impressive. Yes I also buy a lot second hand but still buy more than I need (usually emotional spending ) so I want to just use up what I have and only buy out of necessity

I'll give it a go in my own way!

I don't think I buy a lot in the way of clothes these days as I have more than enough, but am always open to a chazzer bargain. I think I'll see if I can contain costs to £500 pa - theoretical easy, as I don't actually need any! Will tot up costs on this board.

There is a clothes challenge thread on dfw you might want to follow. There are a variety of targets being applied from buying no clothes, to budgets linked to weight loss and sticking to a budget figure.

    :) I'm in.

I have a very small home and clothes storage is limited to a 3 ft hanging rail and a modest-sized chest of drawers. Both are rammed and I certainly don't need any more clothing, including intimates, for some years.

I'm intending to shift another two stone over the coming months but still won't need new clothes as I have some items like just-a-bit-too-small trousers waiting in the wings. Tops aren't a problem.

Just about everything I own clothing-wise is from chazzers anyway, so restricting myself to secondhand-clothes only wouldn't be a challenge, just normal life.

I'm getting back into sewing now that my eyesight has improved considerably (though I still swear by my Clover desk needle threader) and I've been a follower for some time of Goodbye Valentino where she decides to go on a ready to wear fast and make all her own clothes for a year. Although she still spends a fortune on nice fabric, it still cuts her clothes bill from the thousand or so a month:eek::eek::eek: she used to spend.

    I feel I spend too much with a £50 per month budget.

Although a lot of that is shoes because at my age I can't cope with cheap shoes. I don't have many pairs but they tend to be Ecco because Hotter don't fit me well, and they are expensive. Last year when I fractured my spine I couldn't cope with lace ups for a while so managed to find some very comfortable and surprisingly smart Clarks slip-ons with a one inch heel which is actually quite good for your back, better than totally flat shoes.

So I'm OK for shoes now and I think I will do a ready to wear fast and sew my own clothes for a year. I have a LOT of fabric I can use up - doubt I will run out anytime this year - but I will need to buy haberdashery
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
  • I would like to join in too please.

I have far too many clothes, and as I will be losing weight forever this year I will be gradually getting rid of those I grow out of.

If I need any new clothes I will make them.

I know I need new underwear as mine is all very old and tatty but I will only buy new once I reach my half stone markers. I like good bras and have them properly fitted so I will give myself an monthly budget of £50 for clothes and shoes (I can only wear Hotter shoes).

OK I'm in. I've just been through my cupboards in a bid to cut the clutter and am appalled at what I've worn and hung on to even when its falling to bits and then there is the stuff I've brought and never worn/:eek:.

I also have a stash of fabric, wool and patterns.

I have just thrown out my summer sandal's though.

I am in, with a couple of caveats - I need a new light summer dress as I wore my last one to it's literal death and I have a summer holiday in Spain this year so will need something to throw on. I possibly also need winter boots as the ones I have are falling apart but I am hoping they will last until next winter.
