Not buying any clothes 2017

Thanks maryb for tip re dying - I may try that as I also have a lot of very useable black jeans/ trousers that I would get more use out of if they were navy. I am also going from black to navy as I get older.
I have managed to resist a couple of sale bargains whilst out this week. I picked up a blouse and waistcoat with very good reductions, only to come to my senses as I approached the tils, so I did a swift about turn and put them back!0 -
I was tempted to buy a top in a charity shop this week, it was actually seen at the weekend and thought about and revisited. At £2.99 it wasn't going to bust the budget but I came to my senses.
It would just have been another example of a clothing category which I already have plenty of, there was nowhere to put it and it wasn't needed. Plus, someone else who really does need it could be buying it if I don't.
Am wearing a garment today for t'office which is normally one of my indoor winter wardrobe but which didn't actually have an outing last winter (had got out of sight in back of drawer) so it'll be fresh to me and fresh to the colleagues.
Not that most people give a monkey's what you wear, of course.:rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

When I worked in the City I had a 'uniform' of dark suit. I had a black one and a navy one and I was always terrified I would put on a black jacket with navy skirt. One day a client came in for a meeting and whipped off her jacket very quickly as she sat down. When she got up to leave at the end of the meeting she hesitated then shrugged and admitted she had got her suits mixed up. My colleague( another dark suited female) and I both grinned sympathetically and admitted we had done it too. Men seem to be safer - maybe because they tend to have plaids which make it easier to tell their suits apart?
Anyway, there is a lot to be said for sticking to black OR navy but it's surprisingly hard to do. One thing I have noticed, is that if a particular basic is only available in one colour in M&S it will only be available in the other colour next year. Not much help if it's not 'your' year - though as I say, it helps with the not buyingIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
It's quite inspirational isn't it? Though she seems to have stopped updating her main blog as she is busy promoting her book. Another blog I like is Kay the Sewing Lawyer, because she is an example of how well made clothes don't have to have a 'loving hands at home' lookIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

I'll go and check that one out, thanks. Work long hours and don't get a lot of chance to make things, but do a few things each year. When/if I retire it's one of those things I'd like to brush up my skills on and do more of.0

I would like to join in on this if that is okay, there are several reasons.
1. I am getting increasingly tired of the level of consumerism in this country and the way we are all made to feel like we "have to" buy things.
2. The dubious way in which most of the clothes on the UK high street are produced...
3. To save money (I have just moved and my rent has almost doubled)
4. Just to see if I can.
The only exceptions I make are shoes, socks and underwear and will hopefully not need to buy too many of those items.
Looking forward to exchanging ideas/thoughts with you all maybe we can keep up morale by posting links to relevant blogs/articles as I see some already have done.
To our clothes free 2017! (purchasing that is lol) :beer:0 -

I have been decluttering quite drastically in the last few days but although I had in mind to give away more stuff, I decided to keep some back because it would be there when I need it instead of buying new items (e.g. jumpers).
I might need to buy some underwear in the future but even that would be on a strictly NEED business, eg. socks falling apart and no longer reparable. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
So today is the day I plan to attack the wardrobe and find myself lots of 'new' items to wear, thus removing the urge to just have a quick look online at what's left in the sales.....
Wish me luck!0
