Just watched the dispatches program and was absolutely appalled, totally strengthens my conviction not to buy anything - particularly off the high street. In the future (after this year of not buying) I am definitely going to try source my clothes more ethically.......0

*sneaks in sheepishly*
I ended up spending just under a tenner in January. Got a puffa jacket and a pair of leather ankle boots in as-new condition for that, both items constantly in use, so clearly needed.
I have also been given two cosy flannel shirts, very suitable for my casual lifestyle. Mum got them off the 50p rail at a chazzer with my brother in mind, they were a bit too small for him but fit me perfectly.
My normal lifestyle is to go several months at a time without spending anythng at all on clothing or footwear but sometimes opportunities come one's way and it'd be daft not to leap on them.
Leastways, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Mea culpa. We are having a short break somewhere warm and I didn't have time before we left to make a beach cover up. Never having needed one before but we are staying in a hotel this time and can't walk through the public areas to get to the beach in just a cozzie. So I bought one. I felt guilty because I thought why didn't I just put a tee shirt and shorts on over my cozzie. But this is lighter and more comfortable and I can also eg drape it over an arm that is turning a bit pink in the sun without having to cover up completely so I am glad I bought it
But as for the rest, I made two skirts and a dress which have served me very well and used up some of the stash
It has been interesting to see how small a wardrobe one actually needs - and how many clothes some people take with them.It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
That is a very good point; because it's a gift card, I hadn't thought of it!VfM4meplse wrote: »An even better one when you claim the gear as a business expenses (which it legitimately is).
I claim half the cost of running my mobility scooter against my tax return, because at least half the use of it is for dog-walking, so why not with the wet-weather gear too!:o
I've made a start - I found a pair of red zip-up snow boots (great for when I have to scramble off the scooter into the long grass by the side of the path to "scoop the poop" methinks) - and they turned out to be mega-reduced as they are a discontinued line, so only £9.99 :money:
So I still have another £190.01 to spend.

Hello everyone, sorry I've not posted for a while, life has a habit of getting in the way sometimes!
I am very pleased to report though that I have only bought 1 item since before Christmas!
Now I know this is supposed to be about not buying anything, but as someone who bought new clothes, shoes, etc almost every week prior to this challenge I feel I have done very well!
I did manage the whole of January, but succumbed last week to a dress in the sale - which I had wanted when it was full price - at 70% off full price. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!! I do love it though, and I think I appreciate it more because I waited and it was a considered buy.
Back on the wagon now.0 -
For me making considered purchases is the main point of this challenge rather than gritted teeth. I bought a winter coat in the sale (before signing up to this, which is why I didn't mention it.) But, like you, I had wanted it new, been hanging on to see if it was in the sale because I knew I really would need a new coat next year, and got it for a very good price in the endIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Very pleased with myself this morning- we went shopping yesterday and oh bought himself a top, but I didn't buy any clothing !
(On Saturday helped on our charity stall and donated £2 for a 2nd hand floaty Per Una top though)0 -
Fell off wagon this weekend. Brought a polo shirt in a CS , then to M&S outlet for new pants for OH and brought a reduced price lightweight dressing gown to replace an old worn out one.0

Hi lovely people.
I set myself this challenge for 2016, after reading about wartime clothes rationing, and managed it! Yeah! (Except for buying a pair of black trousers for a funeral, totally justified). So I thought I'd post a little review for encouragement purposes. Hope that's ok.
I didn't have many clothes to start off with, and now they have all had a stitch or two somewhere. (totals... 3 pair trousers, plus the funeral ones, 3 tops, 3 vest tops, 2 hoodies and a cardigan, 4 bras, 8 knickers, 8 pairs socks. 1 pair shoes. 1 pair trainers. 1 pair wellies. 1 pair slippers. 2 pair pyjamas. 1 pair bedsocks, yum. 1 coat. 5 scarves. 1 pair gloves. 2 handbags. And a good apron - that plays a crucial role in keeping the other clothes ok! ).
Come January 2017 I was really desperate for new knickers. Really, I had got to thinking about them far too often than is normal, several times some days. I dashed out to buy a whole set as soon as i could (then chucked the old ones). Then I really couldn't be bothered organising myself to get anything else, strange isn't it! So 6 weeks into 2017 I'm still in the same stuff. And it's fine! It's like I just got off the clothes bus, hardly think about it at all. (Not even sewing any, or knitting, not charity shops) Nobody else seems to even notice anymore, or they've given up saying.
I've enjoyed it tbh, hope you all have fun too. XA bit of grin and bear it, a bit of come and share it
You're welcome we can spare it, yellow socks0
