  • I wish I could knit, Happy. I remember 50 years ago my granny trying to teach me, I could knit but not purl! Don't you have to put the needle in bakwards? I tried so hard, chanting in, over, through off! Couldn't hold the needle under my arm either, I was rubbish. Aren't we lucky having grandchildren? I used to imagine what it would be like, but nothing can prepare you for the sheer joy they bring.
  • Right early night for Dorothy, after a broken nights sleep, a rubbish day and two pints of lager I can't hod up.

    Night all xxxx
  • I suppose I find knitting easy dorothy52 because I've been doing it for nearly sixty four years,my mother taught me when I was small But honestly it is easy and now we have so many tutorials on the net. I like short needles so don't tuck them under my arms would hate that, you only have to learn two basics, knit and purl everything comes out of that, every fancy stitch you can imagine Yes its lovely having Grands,I hadn't seen the youngest, seven months since Christmas weekend due to family illness so it was great to catch up

Re the knitting, I am Irish and have knitted Aran sweaters in the past.

@ Happy One, you are so right, once you can "plain and purl" it's all following a pattern after that.

I still have the first Aran cardigan I knit. Kept it for nostalgic reasons. It was for a one year old, but I ran out of the same wool, so the cardigan only has one arm!

Still it's good to have to show I could do it back in the day!
  • Hi melanzana I did Arans many years ago when my older sons were small but don't think I have the patience now, like to do patterns but nothing too complicated. How nice to have kept the little one armed cardigan, that's the sort of thing I do How is your decluttering going? We are trying to get on top of our clutter but it's such hard work, I have plans to have all our unwanteds taken off to the charity shop by Xmas 2017! Take a bagful out with me every time I go to the shops thought just dripping it away bit by bit would be easier than trying to sort a huge load at a time

Hi Happy One, what a lovely user name.

Re the decluttering, well we gave a week to do the boxroom. So today, the boxroom is cleared out, it really is good for the soul to see how flippin big that room actually is now that all the tat is gone!

So the other bedroom is more or less cleared out too today, not quite, although we worked hard! Still, when I opened the wardrobes in bedroom 2 I just closed them again! What is out of sight is out of mind. How in heck did we accumulate all this STUFF!. But that is for another day.

Luckily managed to move one lot of stuff from A to B so our visitors have somewhere to hang their clothes when they come in a fortnight!

I haven't knitted anything for about ten years, must get back to it again!

    Best wishes.

    Hi all,

I looked into the firestick and decided it is not for me, a lot of people have trouble setting it up and I am not sure that another gadget is what I want, especially when I am trying to reduce possessions and also watch less TV. Will stick to what I have and make do with linking laptop to TV if I need to watch some catch up, but thank you for the suggestion.

Re. knitting, I have been knitting for years but remain rubbish at it, cannot pick up a dropped stitch, never finish a project because I mess them up too badly, for example now I have a front and back and one sleeve finished for a jumper for DH. However I have 3 sets of needles in my knitting bag and have forgotten which I have used, so am stuck before starting the second sleeve. I also have a finished jumper in parts, all it needs is sewing and doing the neck, but I would not have a clue where to start. I am going to look for a knitting class proper so someone can help, it is all and well going to knitting groups, I need more than just a friendly hand, I need proper tuition!

This morning is the deadline for declutter as friendly cleaner comes in the afternoon and I have to leave at 1pm, will have to leave instructions with DH.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Hello everyone, I retired in September last year, and moved back to my home town in December, so a busy time.
Wonderful news my lovely daughter on law is 12 weeks pregnant with their first attempt on I.V.F and they sent me a picture of the scan by e mail yesterday. This will be my first grandchild and so happy for them.
Hope the snow is not too disrupting

Hello luv choc, lovely to meet you. Congrats re dgc to be, you are about to discover what love really is, my dear.

Just home from work, better day today but still v busy. Oh the one armed cardi, just love it! My mil knit a lovely Arran cardi for DS when he was one. Dunno what went wrong but one front was longer than the other so had an extra button hole lol. He looked adorable in it though. Eeh happy days.

Well I am proud of your decluttering, ladies, you are indeed an inspiration to us all. Off to get me tea, now, starving!
