I have called my lovely occasional cleaner to give my bedroom a thorough clean up next Thursday so I want all clutter out before then, wish me luck, there is a LOT. I am so lucky with this lovely girl who will only come as and when needed.
Sorry did the "Quote" wrong!
Hi everyone,
I would LOVE an occasional cleaner! And an occasional window cleaner, plus an occasional wheelie bin cleaner etc.....but nobody wants to know. They all want me to have them every week or month on a continual basis, which I don't want or need. Anyone else feel the same?0 -
An occasional cleaner - steps back in envy.
I would have thought there would be a market for cleaners set somewhere in between:
- regular weekly on the one hand
OR
- real one-off blitz clean (eg for real dump type houses)
on the other hand.
Just us "in the middle" people - who don't actually want someone every week - but would like springcleaning type cleaning done.0 -
Anyone watching The Halycon? Dead good, much better than last week. The costumes! They knew how to dress in the 40s
I thought episode one and two were both very good.

I loved it last night, looking forward to the next one. Had a slightly better day today at work but not much. Put heating on half an hour ago and I swear it's colder indoors than out. This house takes ages to warm up.
So....we have discovered a gap in the market for occasional cleaners......hmm, if I liked cleaning it would be an idea for a little part time job in retirement. Mumps volunteers in a school and helps children with their reading, I would love to do this. I adore hearing dgd1 read to me. Any one else up to much?0 -
Hi everyone have just discovered this thread and thought how interesting it will be with us all chipping our bits and pieces in. I'm 68 going on 19 though my face is showing my age! Worked full time till I was 60 after bringing up four children, also looked after bed bound ma in law for ten years. Never been a driver so get plenty of excercise walking everywhere, never been a moaner either just take life as it comes what's the point of going on about the weather, you can't do a thing about it. Happily live with OH we enjoy each other's company and the small things in life, reading and pottering about though I love crafts of all kinds Will understand if this is not the sort of thing wanted on this thread, please just say0

I have an occasional cleaner he is called Jack and he is my beloved lol.
He does all the cleaning in this house, but can't do it without his reading glasses perched on the end of his nose so he SEES the ahem.... dirt.
Anyway just to mention for those interested. This time a few years ago I took early retirement, and Jack had already retired at that time with full service requirements met. So we were full of vim and enthusiasm. Still are.
BUT, Jack had a knee issue from years of marathon running and now has to take ibubrofen any time we go walking. He is not a happy man!
I tripped on the stairs before Christmas and was in total agony. I'm getting there now, but honestly don't think I'll ever have the same litheness I had ever again. But onwards and upwards.
I like this thread, I hope it continues.0 -
Oooh hello Happy One, thanks for popping in, you sound fab. So what do you enjoy doing now that you're retired? Specially this time of year. I have always worked and just can't imagine not. Certainly won't spend send my days cleaning lol. I should walk more, used to walk to school and work when I was young.......then learned to drive.0

Hi Missile and Melanzana, lovely to meet you. Thanks for the link Missile, don't remember that series on telly, when was it on?
Lucky you Mel (sorry I keep spelling your name wrong is it Ok if I call you Mel) with your OH who sees the muck AND cleans it up, what a treasure. Mine thinks hoovering the lounge (never in the corners mind) one a fortnight is quite sufficient as his contribution to the housework thankyerverymuch lol. Nowt good on telly tonight but can't wait for the Unforgotten on Thursday. Love Nicola Walkerd0 -
So the house is slightly less arctic now so am considering taking my several layers off and the bra, wish I didn't have to wear the uncomfortable bluddy thing and doing me roots. Do it meself once a fortnight with me pound shop dye (mr Dorothy does the back) then with me tenner trim every six weeks I have a very mse hairdo0

Hi Dorothy 52 Great to meet you, You won't be at all bored when you do finally retire so many nice things you can do and they don't have to cost much. I go to a reading group walking club and craft groups have made some great friends who I look forward to seeing. I retired from a very responsible job where I loved mixing with folk of both sexes and all ages, think young, keep an open mind about everything. Don't dress 'old' no such thing it's still jeans and boots for me.Once retired you don't have to fill every day up to the brim, I love 'at home days' don't feel any guilt at curling up in a chair with a good book or your knitting(no it's not an old ladies hobby) I just remember all those cold mornings on the railway station platform Today we have been having a NYear clear out lots of shredding done plus a bag of things for the charity shop.By the way, get yourself a good old fashioned rubber hot water bottle!0
