    Morning all

Valli - windows and doors open - really! It's freezing!

Mine too... house needs some air!

Trying to get unpacked and tidied up - left the house in chaos before Christmas and have done nothing but work, sleep and read trash since I got home. The state of it has started to get to me - I did manage a bit of tidying yesterday, so I'm hoping to build on it today. No laundry is being done until I've put all the rest of my clothes away!

Quick question - I have textured white tiles on my ensuite floor which are a PITA to get clean. I also have a tiled floor in the main bathroom, and the kitchen/loo/utility/dining room have vinyl (eventually kitchen/loo/utility/hall will be stone/tile). Would a steam mop do a better job than an normal one? And if so, what do people have and recommend? (I don't want anything too big or expensive... but at the same time, something that works would be a bonus!)

If your tiles are textured I would think you need something 'scrubby' or the 'lower' bits will get a grime build up, Greenbee. Much like grout does, so I do avgrout scrub every so often. I don't know what's available and a really good microfibre stream mophead might work.

    Hope you're ok, btw.

Anyhoo, I'm reporting a clean kitchen. With an organised baking ingredients cupboard. Woot.

Now I am going to put the decs away. My heart wasn't in Christmas anyway. But I tried.

Hi Busy Granny, Woody and Loudmouth!

The only way I can cope with gravy and other fatty, greasy pans is to wait until they're cold and then wipe them out, thoroughly, with paper towels before the pan gets anywhere near water. It hurts my soul when I see people putting water into fatty pans because that means all the fat is going to end up in the drainpipes.

Three loads through the WM and two pegged out already because the forecast is "Blimmin' cold" (technical term) but sunny and dry.

Dog's had a frozen marrow bone and is now fast asleep. Devil Cat's just woken up and is being pesky.
    Better is good enough.

For a strike through click on the 'go advanced' button, select text you wish to strike then click the button with the s with a strike through. Hope it makes sense.

Decs down. Coffee to give me the GUAG to haul them up stairs then prod them into the attic. Lights carefully wound around him cardboard card winders. Because one year I didn't...

Once I've done that it's ladder back to shed, sawdust in hutch and windows to be closed. House smells fresher.

I'm doing OK thanks Valli - I hope you are too. As you say, it's often the little things that tip you over the edge while the big stuff somehow is manageable.

House DID smell better after the windows were opened for half an hour. But now I've made broccoli & blue cheese soup it probably doesn't.

A bit of pottering and putting away has gone on, as well as cursory hoovering downstairs to get rid of the worst of the superficial mess. I'm just going to have to take it slowly.
