Windows 10.

Windows 10 works great for me, apart from the stupid update policy (and associated bugs) where a sleeping PC is woken up to apply updates, then isn't put to sleep after the update is complete. It does this on all 3 of my machines.
I have to enter services.msc and disable the Windows Update service to prevent this, and therefore I now have control again.0 -
I'm starting to get used to Windows 10 I think.
Also Updates have stopped for now.
In fact, unless I'm mistaken, after showing loads of updates at the start, my Windows update history is now showing only a handful have been installed.0 -
Can anybody please recommend the best way to transfer files from one laptop to another?
I'm presuming using a flash drive, but are there other ways, e.g. would icloud be another way?
Also, I have some music on Realplayer and was wondering the best way to transfer this to my new laptop?
Thank you.0 -
I did this via a usb to usb cable but had to leave overnight for about 80gb.You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.

The best/fastest way if it's a reasonable amount of stuff and they're both yours or a family members is via networking, set up a homegroup if using Windows 7 or later and share the relevant folders (by default it wants to share your full music folder as well as a few others but you can disable them and use explorer to manually select folders to share).
It gets a bit more complicated to do if using older OS's or different ones (IE Linux/Apple and Windows) but it's usually the best way if you do it on a regular basis and the machines are used at the same house
Otherwise usb sticks or an external hard drive depending on the amount of stuff you want to shift in a single go:)
One of the best things I did in relation to computers was set up our original home network nearly 20 years ago as we shift a lot of stuff between our PC's (often 10-20gb at a time these days, with the odd transfer of 100+gb, but at the time even just 2-3mb was a pain to shift by floppy).0 -

Iv had w10 from the beta and i must admit i think its great.
I now use it on my main work pc too and am considering rolling it out to the other 1000+ machines on site at some point this year.
Apart from the initial updates and some driver issues with obscure/old hardware - what is everyones main gripe with it ?
I find it fast and stable and i like the way that a right click on the start flag gives you instant access to device manager, system info etc.
As for the privacy stuff, just turn all that off- Iv heard people moaning about spammy stuff in the start menu .. right click => unpin from start
(admittedly im using the pro version so i cant comment on any other versions such as Home etc)0 -

Most home users expect an OS to do its thing quietly in the background; Windows10 hasn't matched that expectation.0 -
Hmmm interesting , thanks Grumpycrab ..
I guess if i were a home user i may consider it worth the extra $ for the pro version then.
I thought W7 was m$ best operating system .. But W10 surpasses it for speed and pretty much everything else in my experience.0 -

Having more people with up to date security patches is worth a bit of pain for a few people.0
