    Thank you Cherryfudge and SH.

This week has continued to be busier than usual with further course modules and an online seminar to fit in and Job 2 shifts. I do find it takes me a while to feel sleepy after a long shift at job2! Thankfully no weekend shifts this weekend.

Have paid £16 off a debt and have more to add to the cash envelope savings
I am amazed - you fit in so much anyway, then you have a week that's busier than usual! I hope you can recuperate over the weekend.

I used to find the same after a late shift - it takes a while to wind down. My solution was not to do anything too active (for some reason, doing the ironing would get me too mentally revved up) but allow myself downtime for my mind to disengage. Usually a bath, computer time and a hot chocolate worked for me, but it's mostly about the cues you have in your own routine that prepare your body for sleep.

Well done for another payment off the debt and more savings!

I need time alone after work or social before I can sleep - so get that too.  Hope you are having a relaxing weekend.

When DS was a baby unable to afford the childcare fees to be able to do my previous daytime job, instead I worked at a small convenience store when my Nan/DH could watch the baby  and the times were 4pm/6pm - 11-pm, a few times a week. I'd return home around 11.15 and could not get straight to sleep. That came as a surprise to me. I thought coming back to a household already in bed and it dark outside meant I'd nod off easily. Instead I found you needed 'downtime' first.  My Dad who worked a continental shift pattern for 25 years said same thing. Hopefully you're getting some rest inbetween the 2 jobs plus studying.

I spent years working 6-10pm while hubby was home with the kids. Rarely got to sleep before midnight. I would one home and watch Neighbours 😂

It’s reassuring to know that others have had similar experiences and need to wind down after a long night shift!

Don’t feel that I’ve achieved very much on the money saving front this week. The new heating system, that has been working well has suddenly stopped…I’ve looked up the code online and I know in theory what it could be but no idea where to find that part so looks like I’ll have to get a plumber in to check it over.
Makes me realise how we used to live in winter and am thankful we haven’t had to do that so far this winter. Thankfully we have the log burner and an electric radiator that we could use last night to keep
    the cold at bay.

If the heating is new can it be fixed under warranty?

I hope the heating can be fixed cheaply and easily! As savingholmes says, it may be covered under warranty or if paid for by credit card.

I love a log burner. They make a huge difference on a very cold night (or day).

  • Thank you SH and Cherryfudge.

I rang the heating company on Friday. They said they would contact me within 3 hours to let me know when an engineer would be around to take a look at the heating system. I am still waiting for that phone call 😒.  I rang them back at 4 but no one answered the phone so have sent an email explaining that the heating system is less than a year old and it is January, I have children at home and we have no heat or hot water. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

Friday wasn’t a brilliant day as a car hit my car in the lanes between villages. The roads were icy so I had been crawling along between 4 and 10 mph. The other car went past me at a greater speed and hit the wing mirror. Was very thankful  for such little
damage, especially as it’s knock for knock in the Lanes.

I hope you get your heating back soon. This isn't the time of year for it to be unreliable. I'm sorry to hear about the car, too. You must have been shaken.
