They're two huge things. Taking the mortgage and the finalising the divorce. It must have been lovely to start this year without those two weights on top of you.

    September 2017 Debt = £25330

    Starting afresh.

You can do anything if you put your mind to it. x

Fantastic news HSL. I remember saying a couple of years ago  around New Year that you were at the start of seeing light at the end of the tunnel. It's finally here. Things will continue to improve too. Decree absolute so you're now divorced or decree nisi that comes first and then absolute comes a few (6??) weeks later? Paying off that amount of your mortgage in such a short space of time is a huge achievement. Frustrating that the ex messed you around for as long as he did but at least someone eventually put a stop to it.

Onwards and upwards Happy New Year.

That's a really massive overpayment on your mortgage! I can't see how you think it seems small! And of course it's £3,800 on which you'll never have to pay interest again, so it's a double win.

What a year you had. Well done for not only riding it out but for doing it with grace and continuing to be Mum as well as all the other hats you wear. That strikes me as the biggest achievement of all because you are being a great role model for your children as well as feeding and housing them, and you can see the results as they become adults.

I think that's a very significant amount to have paid off! I think one of your biggest achievements last year was finally cutting ties with the ex, that must be a huge weight off your mind!

  • Thank you Willowtree222, SA, Humdinger 1, Cherryfudge, Spendless, Dawnybabes & SH - thank you for your words of encouragement.

Spendless. - it’s the decree absolute. The decree nisi was granted in June but due to yet more prevarication over forms, it’s taken until Dec to get the absolute .  I’m very relieved that it is now done.

Cherryfudge- hadn’t thought of it as a double win. You’re right, each pound paid back is less I’m paying interest on.

Its a funny week with getting used to being back at Job 1 and balancing Job 2. My boss gave me a £20 tip last night, so I’ll split it again between savings and debts.

I cancelled a car insurance policy that I had still running but scrapped the car before Christmas… one of the admin jobs that would have cost me money if I’d left it any longer.

Lots to do today in terms of Job 1 and housework. I did use £5 of my NYE tip to get done Sweet pea seeds so hoping I c  as n get some sown today.

Also pleased your divorce is over. It's been a long road. Why am I not surprised it took 6 months between nisi and absolute instead of 6 weeeks! Did the financial order get done too or was that all part of you being able to have the house? I only ask because I see The Legal Queen videos on SM and it's something she mentions that unless put in place can be asked to be looked at  several years later and I'm aware you'll have a teachers pension.

Forgetting to do or not getting round to life admin jobs that  then end up costing is one I'm guilty of.

Good call on using a little of the NYE tips on something you enjoy doing and seeing grow
