How stressful - I'm glad she managed to get to DD1's house without further mishap. It's a shame about the call out charge but I guess these things happen and it will soon be fit for purpose.
I'm fairly sure that at one point the under 25s here added the older adults on their insurance to reduce costs, even though they had left home. Might a variation on that mean reduce costs for your middle children?
Did you arrive home to the younger children fighting to inherit DD1's space?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Glad you're all safe, that's the main thing and especially if the breakdown was on a particularly bad road. I'm surprised the recovery organisation didn't just suggest you change the membership over and just give a charge and admin fee to do that. We've called them out before when I've not been covered and they have allowed me to join there and then in order to access help. Hope this isn't going to be too costly, I said a few posts back about life throwing curveballs.4

Thank you Cherryfudge, Spendless and SH.
The remaining children have an agreed plan of action for the bedrooms for the future so thankfully no fights ensued!
The breakdown chappie let me set up cover for DD3 or rather I think it was for the vehicle. Must check that …I was so shattered with moving everything and then concerned about the breakdown I didn’t take it all in.
Back to a more normal routine this week. I’ve altered my hours at Job 2 so I haven’t got all my evening shifts in a continuous row which will hopefully make it easier to manage.
Stress levels are still high on the mortgage/ conveyancing/transfer front. Can’t go into details at this point due to the ongoing legal side but suffice to say I am exhausted by the continual need to fight for what most people would consider a generous and reasonable deal.

Thank you SH. Feeling calmer about the next step after a couple of emails from the solicitor.
Completed the first week of the new hours for Job 2. I think it has helped splitting the shifts up so it’s not 4 nights in a row. Next week may be a challenge as I have extra things in with Job 1 but will just have to juggle day by day.
The heating work has been completed but just need to figure out how to use it! I wasn’t at home when the engineers were here so has a 2 minute chat about operating which I didn’t understand. May have to contact them for a manual of some description.
Have a fair amount of work to do for Job 1 this weekend and also need to get seedlings planted out and a second sow of some flowers and veg put in. A busy weekend!paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

It's good to hear the solicitor's emails have helped. The whole thing seems designed to wear you down: take courage from how far you've come and all the solid progress you've made, which is massive.
We've just had our boiler mended and he's reset the controls so we've no real idea what we're doing. We never really did, just switched it manually when we felt we needed heat, but now I have a sinking feeling we (I?) need to try to Read The Manual. This is, of course, the same manual I from which I erroneously transcribed the instructions that I followed which then caused the faults in the boiler. I have confidence you can do a lot better than I can with stuff like that! You may be able to find the manual online if that speeds things up. Have you tried the new system yet?
It sounds like a busy weekend but lots of garden activities there which feeds the soul (as well as, eventually, the body).I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Thank you Cherryfudge.
Yesterday was a weird day in the end. DD3’s car is still awaiting repair ( the garage can’t fit it in for 2 weeks 😳) so ended up taking her to the big town 15 miles away to get supplies for her pets. She also chose some paint for her “new” room. She paid for that, despite me saying I would and I felt it was my responsibility but her argument was that she lives rent free so she would pay for it. The colour is very different to DD1’s choice so will make the room very much her zone!
It rained for most of the day. I got an hour of fairly dry weather at 7.30 so had to seize my moment to plant out seedlings. Got more sweet peas in and some strawberry plants. The next battle will be with rabbits. They have come up and left droppings next to the rhubarb that has been carefully planted. They’ve not eaten it as I’ve put a ring of wire around but it is a big area to keep wiring. Got a second sow of Calendula in.Moneywise, I’m trying to stick to £90 a week for groceries but I didn’t have a huge amount of food for that…shows how much prices are still rising.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . That's lovely that she said she'd pay for the paint. As you were expecting to buy it as you'd offered, what about moving the cost of it elsewhere - don't do anything yet with it till you find out about the car repairs but when that's dealt with, throw the paint cost equivalent at the remaining debt.
Rising grocery prices are a pain.4 -
