  • Thank you Lucielle, Humdinger, Spendless and SH. Hope to hear more in the coming week about steps forward.

Had a busy Easter weekend. SO had his children so we’ve taken my younger ones and his out for a few days which has been lovely. Every year I do an Easter egg hunt at the allotment and have done for years. It’s something the ex never got involved with so very much a “ the children and I” tradition. This year SO and his children joined us which was fun! With my children and their partners, where applicable, and SO and his children we could have stocked a shop with the Easter eggs !!!

Unfortunately seem to have caught a horrible cough. A couple of customers at Job 2 had hacking coughs last week which I think is where this has come from. One of those where it’s difficult to sleep because of the coughing so had to have inhalers at the ready. Feeling better today than I did yesterday so hoping that it’s on its way.

Have to start getting prep done for Job 1 today. With the wedding half way through the term ( and the list of things I need to do for that) I have to be on top of Job 1 to be able to balance everything.

It sounds as though it's going to be a balancing act... I hope you are soon over the cough because disrupted sleep makes things harder.

Easter egg hunt sounds like a lot of fun!

I'd given no thought to your DD marrying in term time. My DS is the opposite is marrying in the school summer hols, in a tourist area, next to a tourist attraction with limited parking and his side of the family having to travel there. He'd not even realised till his boss pointed out the reason all the hols he looked at for after his wedding was expensive  he's now booked his honeymoon for the following month.

Hope the cough is better soon.
  • Thank you Cherryfudge and Spendless.

This week is fast turning into absolutely chaotic! Not sure if I’ve mentioned this but my ancient oil boiler got condemned at its last service in September.  SO was able to lend me a couple of electric plug in radiators so we had some warmth but he also found out about a grant available for air source heating. I investigated and because I get some, albeit a small amount of tax credits, I qualified for this heating system. Yesterday some people came from the heating company and put extra insulation in the loft. Unfortunately I didn’t realise I’d have to empty the loft so yesterday’s exercise was heaving down boxes of stuff. Turns out very little of it is mine so I’m using it as an opportunity to declutter and return items to their rightful owners be that the ex or adult children.
Today I’ve got 8 different people in the house doing various jobs to put in this system!  Ended up retreating to SO’s house as the chaos was even too much for me!! Have had a very productive time at his house and got all my planning done for next week which is a relief! Hopefully the heating system will be in by the weekend. Thankfully we have the wood burner for heat tonight if we need it.

Wow - no half measures there! I'm delighted you are getting the heating and the extra space. The weather here today is conducive to lighting a log burner, I imagine it will be very cosy if you need it.

    How's the cough?

  • Thank you Cherryfudge, the cough is proving to be hard to get rid of. I’ve tested to make sure it’s not Covid and that was negative but probably not helped by not being able to rest to give myself chance to get rid of it, if you see what I mean.

Today has not been as productive as I’d hoped. This time, only 3 people working in the house which was more manageable. I could at least retreat to part of the house that wasn’t being worked in and get some marking done. It has been a beautiful day so could have equally done much in the garden. It’s that time of year where the gardener in me battles with the need to prep for a new term!!

I see exactly what you mean about the cough - probably not helped by the disturbance of having workmen in, either. How long do you expect the work on the house to take?

It's beautiful here this morning and the garden here needs attention... and there's that awareness that it's keeping on growing while you are in the house! Perhaps you could award yourself for X amount of marking with some time out of doors?

  • Thank you Cherryfudge and SH.

Hoping that by the end of next week, everything will have been fitted and be functional. Today has been a bizarre day but I’m very thankful it has ended as it has. SO had the day off, quite a rarity, so offered to use his van to help transport the rest of DD1’s things. Most of it was boxed but it was the bulky items like bookcases that we couldn’t do without a bigger vehicle. In the end we had SO’s van full, my car had some bits and  DD3’s car had some more! Unfortunately DD3 broke down en route but she had stopped off at a shop en route and got behind us so we arrived at DD1’s house without realising she was behind us. She was only a few miles away from DD1’s house so we offloaded and went back. Had to call out the ## -yellow van -. I pay over £30 a month and thought I had family membership…turns out I have a joint membership with DD2, which is now not valid for her as she doesn’t live at the same address 🤦‍♀️😩. A lesson for me to make sure my admin keeps up with life! As a result DD3 has had to drive very gingerly to DD1’s house with the mechanic behind her and leave her car there as the mechanic said it was too risky to do the whole journey back to a garage near us, so we’ll have to try and find a garage local to DD1 who can fix the vehicle. This means that I need to be up super early to take DD3 to work before I go to work this week. At the end of the day I am thankful we are all home safely…the road she broke down on is notorious for bad accidents so am glad that although it might be tricky and inconvenient for a week, we are all safe and well.
