Thank you Parkyp, DAL & SH.
DAL - Thank you for sharing the account of the alarm...made me feel more reassured about the one here suddenly going off.
On Saturday I picked up another shift. I was only supposed to be working a couple of hours to cover the busy section but ended up being there for 3.5 hours as it was just so busy. Some people coming in to eat who hadn’t had electricity for over 24 hours. At one point we had a huge group in, only to visit the bar, but they sang sea shanties together which made for a jolly working environment!
The cumulative effect of working 5/7 nights this week on top of the day job meant that I spent most of Sunday feeling absolutely shattered. The wind has been wild here through Sunday afternoon, evening, night and into this morning. We stayed in, other than to deliver an item to DD2. I was surprised to see tiles and debris on the road, as we haven’t sustained much damage apart from the couple of fencing panels. There are a couple of old barns on the same lane as us, one of which now has a hole in the roof due to missing tiles and another that looks as though tiles have lifted or slipped in the wind. I’ve told the children to stay on the other side of the lane to avoid the risk of any more falling debris.
Stayed in the kitchen instead yesterday and made a batch of brownies, a banana and apricot loaf and a batch of banofee pie cupcakes. Used up 6 bananas that were past their best.
Half term this week and I have lots to do. Some prep for the new half term ahead, some clearance of the ex’s remaining stuff ( the timeframe has now gone past a certain date which means I am free to dispose of or keep anything that remains here) and much work to do in the garden. I haven’t even ventured to the allotment to see if there has been any damage there yet. I was hoping to get out for a walk everyday but will wait to see how this storm behaves before venturing forth.
Stay safe everyone.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

Hi HSL ..I just love the line ` the time frame has now gone past a certain date which means I am free to dispose of or keep anything that remains here`...... I just hope there is some hidden treasure or if not please send him the bill for sending stuff to the tip!
A huge weight has been taken off your shoulders- no unsolicited visits with his dog and things going ` missing` Yay!5 -
So pleased at how much progress you've made on finally ridding yourself of the ex. It makes me really smile.

So pleased to read it’s all heading in a much more positive direction - finally. I’d be tempted to smash up or burn the ex’s stuff to say good riddance to him but I hope you can find something of use or can sell.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)3

Well done to HSL on getting to this point. I'm sure it took a huge amount of energy. Well done too on working all those hours last week. Hope you get to recharge this week.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Thank you Janb5, CCL, SA, Humdinger1 & SH.
Humdinger - your post did make me smile, the thought of all of you standing round with flaming torches. I am truly grateful for all those who have encouraged me on this long journey. Your encouragement really has kept me going and helped me to see unhealthy behaviours where they had become normalised to me, if that makes sense.
We have quite a big porch that we’ve not been able to use for years...it’s big enough to use as a study or an art space for the DDs that are studying art or as an extra sitting space. It’s full of his stuff. Now that I have clear access, I’m emptying it so that we can use the space.
Having not heard from DS1 since the furniture raid before Christmas, I was somewhat surprised to have a text from him telling me that all the metal in the garden was his and if I touched it or arranged to have it moved he would “be fuming.” Given that this has been dumped in the garden for over a year and he no longer lives here, I responded that it needed to be moved ASAP. I think I need to be more practised at putting in boundaries so will give a reasonable timeframe for him to take it, after which I will arrange for it’s removal.
Monday was a good day...DD2, the younger ones and I went for one of our favourite lockdown walks. DD2 and I have opposite working hours so it’s been really tricky to find any time that we can catch up. We used to walk together every week when I worked 4 days which is much missed. Half term has been a good opportunity to catch up though. There is a farm shop half way round this walk so I did treat them to a drink and snack there for lunch. I was happy to be able to get out for a walk...this walk is beautiful for its far reaching views and vast expanse of sky. There was a fresh breeze which was welcome after the gusts and gales of these past stormy days.
I was also pleased to have the time to get out into the garden for a while. I’ve got some sweet peas sown ( Purple pimpernel), some tomatoes ( Gardener’s Delight) and some cornflowers. Also planted some bulbs that were still waiting. These will be very late but better late than doing nothing sat on the side. The main camellia bush is starting to wane in its flowering now but has passed the baton on to two other bushes so lovely to see more colour creeping through.

Again, that sounds like DS1 is being someone else's mouthpiece.
You are right not to be bullied and to carry on behaving as you are, which is perfectly reasonably whatever is thrown.
Great news that you've gained another room. That's like a magic trick !!4 -
