I love tempting work too - Spendless and Jan
Good luck HSL with getting Ex's stuff cleared out. I'm trying to get our loft, garage and sheds emptied / reviewed currently... Such a joy... Roll eyes. My Ex is being reasonably cooperative just slow.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I don't know that it's a good idea to overpay the mortgage right now. Do you have an idea of which way the decision is going to go? I totally understand why you are trying to though. I just don't want you giving him any more money than you need to.
All your jobs sound exhausting. I have no idea how you're managing. You are a wonder.
Has there been any arrangement for him to take all of his stuff away?

I agree. I wouldn't overpay the mortgage until the financial stuff and divorce is sorted.Debt free Feb 2021 🎉4

I think that's a good point raised about mortgage overpayments, it's not necessarily an overpayment that will be 100% to your benefit, you might be paying anything upto 50% off the exes share. Given that you have had all the financial burden of raising the children without any help for him, I wouldn't risk it. Put the money into one of your other 'pots' instead. You can move from there if needed at a later stage, when everything is settled.5

Thank you Rugbymadfamily, Spendless, SH, Janb5, Lucielle, Kitten868 and DAL.
That is food for thought...I know that when I come to get a mortgage on my own, I need it to be a lower balance than the one currently. Hearing of a possible interest rate rise made me think again about the mortgage. Hopefully if all goes through as agreed, the payment shouldn’t disadvantage me, but until the ink is drying on the forms, I can’t be 100% sure. I like your idea Spendless, of saving it in a pot which can then be used to pay off a chunk at the point when I know for certain.
This weekend has been a case in point of not being too impetuous. I’ve had a stressful few days over DS2. Basically I found he had gone somewhere miles from home and it has cost me £200 to get him home again and make sure he had food. Etc. Obviously I wanted to make sure he had the basics, but it is still £200 gone that I had not expected to have to pay.paydbx2025 #26 £890/£5000 . Mortgage start £148k June 23 - now £138k.

I'm sorry to hear you had that extra expense, £200 is a hefty unexpected bill. Good that he's home safely of course, and hopefully won't be doing that again.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

So sorry to hear about recent events and I'm glad he's back safe. To you or your ex?
Hope the next week is stress free.
Tonight I arranged fir a carpenter to set up my new bed only to discover one piece is faulty.*sighl*
Still had to dismantle the boxes and get rid of all those pesky pieces iof foam which fly everywhere....4 -
Ouch to the £200 but what can you do if they're not home and safe. We faced similar last year but with somewhere DD had gone with our blessing. By the time we added in a brand new stolen ipad of £500 the whole excursion (which was purely 2 nights!) cost us £1K. Something we'd not anticipated when she first mentioned going!
Is this DS back living with you, otherwise where was Dad in helping the situation be resolved?5
