And post twenty before the anti anything in authority and negative gloom and doom merchant turns up.:p

Thank you. I genuinely take that as a compliment.

As for the post to which I was referring, it seems the poster thinks it's fine for someone guilty of a minor transgression (speed awareness course only available to people who are not much over the limit) to suffer lewd remarks. Well it isn't.

OP - complain both to the police force in question and the course provider.

So are you suggesting this gets reported as a crime?

No. It obviously isn't a crime. :( It would appear to be unprofessional conduct.

And with most of these courses run and managed by ex-coppers how far do you think that will get her?

Probably not very far, but I'd still complain. Also, a refund might be in order if the participant genuinely felt uncomfortable. And even with a refund she will have completed the course, so there should be no further issues in that respect.

The police force is one of the official organisations behind the provision of the course, and might be interested from a legal or ethical point of view. In the same way, if I were to make lewd or personal remarks to a customer, my employer might be interested to hear of it. No crime necessary.

So you're not aware of the public order act?

So what exactly did they do?
  • Well, I did one 5 years ago and it certainly wasn't several hours of death by power point, of course my perception, like others was that it would be a complete waste of time and we would be treated like naughty school kids, this was not the case, those of us that did engage in the various activities based around the course actually learned something and enjoyed the course, there were a few arrogant anus's that clearly couldn't be bothered at all and given the manner of their driving on leaving the venue, learnt absolutely nothing.

I thought the course I went on was too basic to be of any use. There was a lot on hazard perception but I doubt that any of the content would have been news to anybody.

Some of the advice given was a bit suspect too. For example the instructor suggested driving round in specific gears to hold a speed - 2nd for 20 mph, 3rd for 30 mph etc etc. Not really a practical proposition in my automatic car.

    Can't you change gears then?
