I don't really get the thing with tweaks.

I get it that when you cook fruit it loses some of it's goodness, but what about tomatoes? They're a fruit and they're okay cooked.

I can also kind of get why grounding cous-cous up in to flour is bad, not because it changes it's nutritional content, but because the thing you do with it is likely to be eaten in larger quantities and with unhealthier stuff, so you could sabotage yourself.

But rice for breakfast is surely okay. Having it with fruit and yogurt is the same as having it as a rice pudding in my mind, and I believe that is fine.

How do they decide what is a tweak and what isn't?

Good to see you Lush - doughnuts don't agree with me. In a past life when I worked in an office, KrispyKremes opened a shop near to work and my colleagues were always buying them in large quantities for everyone to share - I was doing SW at the time and quite pleased it was doughnuts as I didn't have any problem resisting them.

yes - I must admit it wasn't because I wanted it or fancied it. I think my relationship with food is completely broken and I feel lost trying to find the root cause :/

Come payday I am going to get some lovely fresh fruit and free yogurt and I'm going to prepare a heap of the fruit, and the same with salad just like I used to do every week, and keep it all ready to eat in the fridge :) see...as I write about that I am genuinely excited for it but it's like I just fail at the execution part!

You sound so like me Lush. Full of good intentions, excited about them, but then just not doing it.

I find setting myself a time to do the food prep can help, but it needs something to tempt me to do it. Maybe a treat after you've done it, or no watching your favourite programme till it's done.

Maman - I think the mix up with the amount of mince was probably because earlier you'd posted 113g of tuna was a HEB on a Green day!

Well done to MSM for being this week's SOTW.

With regard to tweaks my take on it is if you're doing something as part of a meal it's OK so I would definitely say having overnight rice instead of oats is fine. If it affects your weight loss then stop using tweaks.

LL - what a coincidence - I'm having a Red day today for a change. I often think the Red and Green days were far better for losses than EE.

    Today's plan:

B - cheese on toast - grated cheese, L&P worcester sauce, mustard powder, egg yolk to mix
L - jacket potato, tuna mayo, salad - lettuce, cucumber, tomato, red pepper, beetroot, pickled onions
D - Thai chicken cakes with more salad! chicken cakes have some Speed in them including garlic & spring onions. Am looking forward to these as they are a new recipe for me

    HEA1 - 30g cheese
    HEA2 - 300ml 1% milk
    HEB1 - 230g jacket potato
    HEB2 - 2 slices WM

Syns - 1 Tbs Lighter than Light Mayo - 0.5; 1 Tbs lemongrass paste 0.5; dark chocolate 4 (4 squares)

  • Well after all the confusion over meat HEBs on green days I didn't end up eating the mince I'd prepared  So OH had double helpings of nacho style feast - I ended up with just fruit for tea. I was famished when I was making it but as soon as I dished it up, it made me feel really nauseous, I don't know why. Good to know about the quantities allowed for meat & fish though, I'll remember it for next time

I've made the rice pudding before but used HEA milk in it (I'm sure there was a recipe going around which used cream soda in but that was classed as a 'tweak') and had it with lots of fruit. It was lovely for breakfast and made a nice change. Sweetened cous cous was also good but you had to use so much sweetener in it, I'm not sure that would work anymore as it's got syns now. More often than not I tend to use my HEB for breakfast so it'd be nice to try a few more things where I could save it for my lunch

I feel like I need to scour ebay for some of the green/red books cos I'd quite fancy mixing it up a bit and trying more green & red days - worth it just for the extra hexs I reckon :) I do like SP but wish you got an extra A as well as a B when doing it. Just spotted that you can have potato as HEA on a red day, I like the sound of that

Saying that I'm planning on doing SP again today although I might fancy some yoghurt and fruit later so maybe it'll end up as red :)

B - porridge with apple and cinnamon, cuppa
    L - tomato & lentil soup with 4 ryvita
T - gammon grill with carrot & swede mash (1 syn) and spring greens

Better pack the speed in today as its WI for me tomorrow. Well done MSM for SOTW :T

candyapple - potato is HEB not HEA on a Red day. HEA is always for calcium so milk or cheese. HEB is for fibre which is why a baked potato can be had on a Red day - you can also have boiled new potatoes in their skin but haven't got the amount to hand at the moment; but can look up later if you want?

Interesting reading about tweaks and the reasoning behind them, I absolutely wasn't trying to be evangelical about it so I hope I didn't come across that way (I ate six Freddos on Sunday night so I am by no means the perfect SWer!).

Well done you Kathryn for being practical, it's a pain at the time (not the cooking but the washing up!) but it's great when you have a freezer full of 'ready meals'.

Well my opticians is right beside a Greggs and the smell of that delicious greasy pastry permeated the whole place but I remained strong and came home for my boring salad - medal please! I do think healthy eating is hard for Northerners as we are so used to our pasties, gravy, etc :D

PS - Aunt Bessie's Carrot and Swede mash was on offer for £1 in Tesco earlier, almost half price. Such a good thing to keep in the freezer and only half a Syn per 100g.

    Afternoon all

Talking of Tweaks reminds me of a lovely pudding recipe I used to make all the time until SW decided we shouldn't use couscous in place of flour. We had it at least once a week and I managed to lose 6.5 stone, so it goes to show that moderation is the key.

    LL :)

ooo please share, I need a pudding recipe!

I looked up the cream soda rice pudding

If you read the comments as well it explains why it might be considered a tweak. I don't think it's using the cream soda per se that's a problem, that's no different to using water or stock to cook savoury rice. I think what matters is that you have a reasonable portion not stuff your face with it!:D I can't see that made with cream soda and/or a yogurt you'd need loads of sweetener but if you did then it would need synning.

I've always been suspect of the 'fill your boots' with free food advice that my previous consultant loved to give. Personally I think we all need a third of food across a day as Speed and eating loads of free food (rice or anything else) just upsets the proportion.

When I went to fry up my veg at lunchtime there was a potato in with the Speed. It was binned. Sorry Martin :money: but I was determined to do 100% EESP today.

From my reading, it is the lack of speed that makes it a tweak. Serving it with lots of fruit would sort that out, along as not eating massive quantities of it.
