OK - I've been looking forward to the start of Jan challenges - all that new year, new start type thing, I guess. I love Xmas and the lazi-ness of it though - the luxury of not having to do anything/ go anywhere/ work to times
Here goes my pledges for Jan:
Usual rules:
The challenge runs from January 1st to January 31st. - ok
Set a NSD target, aim for at least 15. - not a personal challenge of mine as long as budgets aren't exceeded
Donate to a charity - regular DD to one a month and I donate my time most weeks
Pay to your debt or savings first - will do.
Post as often as you can - will try and check in daily
January's rules:
Look at your usual food budget and aim to spend 10% less. Do a stock take of everything in your freezer/fridge/cupboards - I am setting a budget of £400 for the 5 of us and 3 guinea pigs
Post 3 things that you are grateful for each time you post - I like this idea
Post something that you would like to have achieved by the end of 2017 - think about how you will achieve this, break your goal down into small achievable steps.- By the end of the year I want to have halved the (non mtge) debt we have and have lost 20lbs - and also get fitter along the way
Organise some cheap (free if possible) things to do with family or friends. January is a long and usually boring month, it's nice to have things to look forward to- We had a voucher for a cream tea at a local hotel as a Xmas present which we must use in Jan, so this is one definite thing! Also have access to some discounted cinema tickets so we may see if there's something on which we'd like to see (ideally with DS2 as it's his bday in Jan)
I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Count me back in for January please x0

Hi Everyone
Here are my goals for this month's challenge.
I have been steadily gaining weight and am now three and a half stone overweight which means I am officially obese. Horrifying but all my own fault. So it has to go. From midnight tonight no more chocolate/sugary things, crisps/snacks or alcohol. Generally more healthy eating and exercise. If I can loose a pound a week it will be gone by the end of 2017,
I'm aiming for food/household budget for three of us of £180. Still lots in the freezer to use up and I have meals planned for first week..
Hope to have 15 NSDs.
Going to Amsterdam for five days early January (paid for from holiday account) but also have a few ideas about things to do locally. Some places around here that I haven't visited for years. Have to persuade C on this.
I like the idea of posting three things that you are grateful for each time you post. It should put things into perspective.
I'd like to wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Have a lovely time tonight and I'll be in touch tomorrow.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Morning all
I feel as though I'm ready to declare my goals for the Year ahead. We're going away overnight tonight so I need to get myself sorted physically and mentally before we go...The challenge runs from January 1st to January 31st.
Set a NSD target, aim for at least 15. I'm going for 16
Donate to a charity SO set up for this already
Pay to your debt or savings first done
Post as often as you can will try
January's rules:
Look at your usual food budget and aim to spend 10% less. Do a stock take of everything in your freezer/fridge/cupboards I've done this - budget for the month is £270 for me, dh 2 kids and 6 cats
Post 3 things that you are grateful for each time you post - I love this, it really helps to focus on the positives
Post something that you would like to have achieved by the end of 2017 - there are 2 things. I would like to have a decent emergency fund built up of at least £1000. I have another account and will set up a SO to pay into this. I would also like to make exercise part of my daily routine. The only way I can achieve this is if I actually make the effort to...
Organise some cheap (free if possible) things to do with family or friends. January is a long and usually boring month, it's nice to have things to look forward toWell, we are visiting friends for New Year but I will need to look into this otherwise.
In case I'm not back on today I'd like to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. Being on here has really helped me over the past 18 months and I'm hoping for more of the same in 2017.Not giving up

Can I join too please?
I am grateful for my children, my home and the chance I have to improve our lives by becoming debt free.
I am going for 4 NSD per week (work days) and always taking a packed lunch.
I also want to lose 2lb per week without paying for slimming club.
I will save £1 for every lb lost towards our holiday spends :-).
We already sponsor 2 children but our church giving is a bit slack so want to get that back on target.
We have a £450 food budget Inc 2 adults, 3 teenagers, a toddler, 2 dogs, 2 cats, a hamster and fish! In January I am going to stick to this then try and reduce it in Feb.
By the end of 2017 I want no credit cards or overdraft and to have halved my personal loan.
We are tied into leisure centre membership and not using it, I plan to change this and cancel in June unless it's being utilised - going to add up cost of what we do and see if it's worth it.
Plan and save for trips to see hubby's son so they don't plunge us further into debt every couple of months.
Phew!!!!SPC No 22
MBNA - £450
Tesco CC - £2000
Overdraft - £1100

Off to do a stocktake of pantry (yeah I have a pantry:p)
Achievements in 2017 - a working shower, a new roof, losing 2 and a half stone.
- First goal in January of 5lbs to take me down to under 13 stone, this is a new development, put on a stone very quickly, hopefully it will go just as quickly. Onwards and...erm... downwards!!
Cheap things in January - kids club at the 0de0n ( Kids not required!) £2.50 a ticket. Currently The BFG, Kubo and the Two Strings, The Secret Life of Pets.
Cineworld are even cheaper £2.00 Charlie Brown movie and The Secret life of Pets.
I have National Trust and English Heritage family memberships (birthday presents). So will check out if anything is on locally, even if it is just free parking while I go off on a wander.
Feel like this is going to keep me on track.:T:T4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!
