Well, we are back from our week in London, and we have moved into our flat! :j  _party_
This means that while my parents still have decluttering to do at their house, we now don't as we did it all before we moved. I am however still going to help mum when I can
I will also join in on the new thread in the new year if necessary.0 -
Well done on your move, gemmajenkins. How exciting :j:j.
I spent this afternoon sorting through bags of school uniforms I pulled from the loft when I was sorting it out the week before last.Sooooooooooo many uniforms collected over the years with the intention to sell..Of course, when the time comes,I can never find them.
Not sure what I am going to do with them.I would donate to charity, but I don'tthink many charity shops would appreciate being loaded down with 8 years worth of school uniforms,3 weeks after school has started back .I have offered them to a couple of friends who work with vulnerable families,so hopefully they will still be used.Otherwise will list on freecycle.
I also spent a few hours sorting through Christmas decorations, teddy bears, art work, lights, hats, stockings, etc, again pulled from the loft and sitting in my kitchen for the last 2 weeks:eek:.I have set aside some decorations/stockings for donation, but don't really think they will be appreciated in September, either!
Apart from these set-asides,a few things left the loft today:
Binned:
699:Christmas tree-shaped piece of foam, decorated with stickers, etc.According to the note I wrote on the back, was bought at school fair by my daughter about 10 years ago
700-704:paper-chains,not recyclable
Recycled:
705:large paper chain, made by recyclable paper
706:gift bag.
707-712:5 cardboard boxes,and 1 plastic box that had contained decorations.Never used once initially opened,so out they go.SPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76

Struggling to get empty boxes at the moment, for non clothes donations. Not prepared to pay for them. Back in the day, you could always find them near the store exit.

Hi everyone,
I haven't been here for ages but have been decuttering. This week I've had a massive clear out in the kitchen and removed lots of things I didn't need, even though I liked them. We've also decluttered two family members homes this year as one passed away and another moved into a home so we have been busy at the recycling centre and the charity shop. A bit overwhelming but we're getting there. Hope you are all well.0 -
I had a day off work today, spent it sorting through the last of the stuff I had dragged out of the loft. Was sick of it knocking around in my kitchen.
I was sorting through Halloween, Easter and the last of the Christmas stuff.Decluttered bits of rubbish, have set aside a few Halloweeen bits to donate a bit closer to the time.Same with Easter stuff-am sure charity shops would not appreciate Easter stuff being donated in September .Stuff from the loft to leave the house today:
Recycled:
713-717:5 yoghurt pots that had been made into Halloween decorations by the kids a few years ago
718:paper ghost
719:paper bag that had contained Halloween stuff
720:empty Christmas decoration box that missed the cull yesterday
721:Christmas gift bag
Binned:
722:a Christmassy hairband
723-724:2 squashed Easter chicks
I also set aside a couple of Halloween outfits, still with labels on,which I might try to sell online.
Over the last few months I have been gathering bits and pieces suitable for donation to my kid's school's nursery/reception.Today I had a chance to drop it off.Oh they did appreciate it.Teacher said they are always looking out for "stuff".And it is just stuff I didn't know what else to do with.....
725-726:2 part-used rolls of wallpaper, from when we decorated teenage daughter's room over 2 years ago
727:Giant Christmas activity book-had a few pieces missing,so would have been chucked away by a charity shop, but early years at school would cut out the cut-outs,use for sticking ang gluing and colouring, teachers props/supplies....
Other nursery/reception donations were from around the house:
1927-1928:2 books, which actually belong to the school and been long-lost.Oops
1929-1939:11 pair underpants ,used as spares
1940:pair of socks
And a whole lot of craft/make-and-do stuff:
1941:bag of decorative feathers
1942:box of assorted coloured paper
1943:flower craft set
1944:piece of felt
1945-1950:assorted lengths of gauze ribbon
1951:piece of "foil" effect card. Not sure what it's proper name is
1952-1959:8 pieces of foam
1960:circular fluorescent cardboard
1961-1963:3 bits of tubing
1964:plastic textured sheet
1965:string of fabric hearts
1966:box of about 1000 straws
1967:piece of felt
1968:piece of tassel
1969:set of ceramic beads to paint then bake (glaze).I would have donated this, but was missing a few beads which my kids had used.I actually had 2 boxes of unused beads, both with bits missing,so combined the 2 ,and they will use them as they are
1970-1971:This afternoon I also sorted 2 bundles of papers that have been hanging around for ages-a bundle of old tesco vouchers, and another pile of newsletters from school, and assorted mailSPC #36 :staradminx 8.SPC7=£751.10 SPC8=£651.04 SPC9=£843.00 SPC10=£872.76
